Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Sunny and 69 degrees at Jones Pond. 🌞 There is a southwest breeze at 5 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 56 degrees.

Its my final work from home day in the Adirondacks πŸ—» and then Saturday I’ll drive home 🏑. My battery bank πŸ”‹ is slowly but surely draining down, despite the 1.5 kWh plus the solar panel has produced over the past week and the half a kilowatt plus βž• that the alternator has likely produced. The laptop uses a lot of power as does using my phone all day. πŸ“± Plus I need to do wash and I think I’d rather get home at least for a week or two after this adventure.

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 76 degrees at 2pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 9th. Maximum dew point of 56 at 8am. Southwest wind 5 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 87 degrees. The record high of 99 was set in 1952.

At sunset, look for mostly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 69 degrees. The dew point will be 48 degrees. There will be a west-southwest breeze at 6 mph. On this day in 1963, U.S. President John F. Kennedy gave his “Ich bin ein Berliner” speech, underlining the support of the United States for democratic West Germany shortly after Soviet-supported East Germany erected the Berlin Wall. June 25, 2020 Evening

Good evening! Heavy rain and 73 degrees at the Jones Pond. β˜” Glad I’m tired 😴 and decided to bail for the truck early. It’s wet! There is a west-southwest breeze at 9 mph. πŸƒ with gusts up to 24 mph πŸ’¨πŸ’¨πŸ’¨. The dew point is 45 degrees. The skies will clear around 5 pm.

Just a rain storm πŸ’¦ but quite wet for now. I’m not sure if good because of all the weather warnings ⚠ of how dry it is. That said, this week has had a lot of showers and Saturday could be quite wet.

Today I stopped by Bog River Falls then spent some time at the Tupper Lake Library. πŸ’» Been a pretty quiet time at work but I’ve been working on coming up with polling regions for one of my clients. Spent a little time at Tupper Lake Park and then bought a few very expensive groceries at the independent in Tupper Lake.

I forgot to get gas and ended up driving 🚘 through Saranac Lake on the way up to camp. It probably was about the same amount of time as going through pokey Fish Creek Ponds. Pretty drive between Tupper Lake and Saranac Lake, I didn’t realize how much of a drop its down to Saranac Lake. The village of Saranac Lake reminds me of a bit of Galenton, PA with the mountains and the ponds but much bigger and less hillbilly.

Occasionally I’ve been hearing a clinking noise when I turn my steering wheel πŸš™ which is bothering me to no end after spending all that money on the front end of the truck. πŸ’΅ If something else is wearing out I would have hoped the shop would have pointed it out and asked me if I wanted it fixed. Maybe it’s nothing, there is nothing I can do about it for now, but it’s still annoying. It’s not effecting drivablity and it’s still happening only rarely. At times I get overly sensitive about auto noises.

Jones Pond is nice but they’ve reduced it to two drive in campsites β›Ί – the site I really like and the one in the boat launch parking area πŸ…Ώ. You can guess which one I am at tonight. It’s fine though, only two nights here ✌ and it’s still on the lake and it’s close to the road so no rough roads to drive and quick to leave come Saturday when I head home. 🏑 Plus I have decent cell service for work. πŸ“±

Tonight will have a 20 percent chance of showers before 9pm. Partly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 53 degrees at 5am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 5th. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 61 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1979.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent πŸŒ’ Moon with 23% illuminated. At 5 PM, the moon was in the south (178Β°) at an altitude of 61Β° from the horizon, some 229,463 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. πŸš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by December 16th. Buckle up for safety! πŸ’Ί The Buck 🦌 Moon is on Sunday, July 5. The darkest hour is at 1:01 am, followed by dawn at 4:40 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:16 am in the northeast (56Β°) and last for 3 minutes and 37 seconds. Sunrise is 22 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:01 am with sun in the east-northeast (63Β°). Tonight will have 8 hours and 30 minutes of darkness, an increase of 21 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 78 degrees at 5pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 16th. Maximum dew point of 56 at 8am. Southwest wind 8 to 11 mph. A year ago, we had rain in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 87 degrees. The record high of 99 was set in 1952.

In four weeks on July 23 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (299Β°) at 8:32 pm,πŸŒ„ which is 13 minutes and 39 seconds earlier then today. In 2019 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 79 and 65 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 83 and 62 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1955.

Looking ahead,

Before the rain comes this evening check out the tons of woods lilies. The flowers won't likely survive the rain.

June 24, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 56 degrees at Horseshoe Lake. πŸŒƒ There is a west-southwest breeze at 5 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 48 degrees. Final night here, my three nights here expires comes morning.

So the plan is to break camp early tomorrow β›Ί and then head down to Horseshoe Lake for a paddle. Already the flags 🎌 are down, hammock and gear is organized for a quick pack. At lunch time I’ll go to Tupper Lake for milk and ice ❄ and work using the village maybe upload some stuff to the blog. At five o’clock I’m going to head up to the Saranac Lake Wild Forest or St. Regis Canoe Area where I have cell service and work there Friday and then drive home Saturday I think. πŸš£πŸ‘―

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌀, with a low of 52 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 1st. Maximum dew point of 51 at 12am. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1982.

Busy day at work, preparing a large memorandum report that ended up getting shelved πŸ“š for another project. The laptop battery held up fine and during lunch and later in the afternoon I plugged it into the truck to top it off.

Lows Ledge was pretty but clouds pushed in at the wrong time ☁ – they came in slightly after I arrive and departed after I left casting dark shadows on the land but I got some nice pictures πŸ“· at the end. Beautiful country up there. I’d love to paddle Hitchens Pond but with work and everything else I just don’t have the time. ⌚ I’m getting to hang out in some beautiful country but work has been crazy. It’s a road trip yes, but not really a vacation. I’m working every day including for a while on the weekend.

While seeing the bear and cubs 🐻 play in the tree was kind of cool, I wasn’t not happy seeing the bear so close to camp. He’s too comfortable with humans and I don’t want him breaking into my truck or tearing up camp. πŸ‘£ I thought about sending some bird shot in the woods away from him to send him packing but at the time my truck was parked out on the road soaking up sun for the solar and I didn’t have my shotgun right pm me. Hopefully he won’t be a problem tonight after tonight she’s somebody else’s problem.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent πŸŒ’ Moon with 16% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the west (280Β°) at an altitude of 17Β° from the horizon, some 231,151 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. πŸš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by December 17th. Buckle up for safety! πŸ’Ί The moon will set in the west-northwest (296Β°) at 11:41 pm. The Buck 🦌 Moon is on Saturday, July 4. The darkest hour is at 1:01 am, followed by dawn at 4:39 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:16 am in the northeast (55Β°) and last for 3 minutes and 36 seconds. Tonight will have 8 hours and 29 minutes of darkness, an increase of 16 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 74 degrees at 5pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 2nd. Maximum dew point of 53 at 8am. In four weeks on July 22 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (299Β°) at 8:33 pm,πŸŒ„ which is 12 minutes and 38 seconds earlier then tonight. June 24, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Latest Sunset πŸŒ† of the Year ! Partly sunny and 64 degrees at the Horseshoe Lake. β˜” There is a southwest breeze at 8 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 61 degrees.

After last night’s rain it’s cleared up quite a bit. β˜€ This is good because my battery bank is low, and I’ll need to use my laptop for most of the day at work today. But fortunately, no working late today, so

Partly cloudy β›… becoming sunny 🌞, with a high of 73 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 30th. Maximum dew point of 61 at 7am. Today I have a paper I’m writing for work πŸ“„ so I’ll be using the laptop all day but I don’t expect I will have to work late so running down the laptop battery πŸ”‹ isn’t a big deal as I’ll have sun to charge it.

I am thinking tonight after work about hiking back to Lows Ledge at 5 pm. πŸŒ‡ This should get me back there a little after 7 pm and when there should be good illumination of the land below as it will be a clear and beautiful evening. I will bring multiple flashlights πŸ”¦ but once I’m hiking along the dirt road I doubt I’ll need them.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌀, with a low of 53 degrees at 4am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 5th. Maximum dew point of 52 at 11pm. Thursday I plan to take down camp early πŸŽͺ and then maybe go for an early morning paddle, work down by the lake for a while and then at lunch time either drive down to Long Lake for the balance of the day or maybe Tupper Lake. If I do Tupper Lake I’ll get some supplies and set up camp somewhere else through Saturday or if I do Long Lake will do a short evening hike after work and then be home by nine.

June 22, 2020 Night

Good evening! Hot and humid night and 77 degrees at the Horseshoe Lake. Light breeze The dew point is 64 degrees.

Kind of muggy when the breeze dies down πŸƒ but truth be told when the wind picks up its quite pleasant. It wasn’t as long of a day as expected but fairly busy. Laptop worked well, kept it charged πŸ”‹ but I had to move the truck a few times to keep it in the sun for solar power. That said this campsite was quite nice and cool and shady. Plus close to the lake for water or cooling down. Had a few rumbles of thunder ⚑ to the east but nothing nearby.

June 22, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Average High is 80 πŸ–! Sunny and 73 degrees at the Horseshoe Lake. 🌞 There is a south-southwest breeze at 5 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 63 degrees. A very pleasant morning up but muggy here like everywhere else.

It’s a Monday and it’s back to work remotely πŸ’», using the laptop and my phone πŸ“±. The nice thing about the internet is nobody knows if you are a dog 🐢 or are hiding out in St. Lawrence County unless of course you post about it.

Been years since I’ve been in the North Country, 🌲🌲🌲 I forgot how wild and beautiful the land is north of Blue Mountain Lake 😍 and how many deer, turkey and other wildlife you see on the road at six o’clock on a Monday. With the fog lifting 🌁 it was an incredible beautiful morning. I should get up early more now that the sun is rising so early. It won’t be that long until sunrise πŸŒ… is closer to 7:30 am rather then 5:30 am.

Why did I decide to wake up so early and head north? 🌲🌲🌲Partially because I could but also I had some concerns about staying at that campsite 14 another night at Jessup River Road. I’m tired of it and that area, I’ve been there too much lately. Plus while that site has oodles of solar power it would have been ungodly hot under the sun β˜€. And I was itching for something different. I knew I would have pretty good cell phone reception πŸ“Ά on Horseshoe Lake so I could easily work here and most of the campsites are close to the lake. I’m hoping to do a little paddling after work 🚣 and maybe some fishing 🎣 but it depends on the weather and how late I have to work. πŸ“

Today will have a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 88 degrees at 4pm. Eight degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 63 at 8am. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 95 was set in 1954.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 1:01 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.2Β° from the due south horizon (0Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 8:02 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (297Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the borthwest (305Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:46 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 36 seconds with dusk around 9:22 pm, which is 10 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent πŸŒ’ Moon in the west-northwest (296Β°) at an altitude of 8Β° from the horizon, 236,519 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 10:11 pm. At sunset, look out for thunderstorms 🌩 and temperatures around 75 degrees. The dew point will be 63 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 15 hours and 31 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 5 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 7pm. Patchy dense fog after 1am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy , with a low of 65 degrees at 5am. Six degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 9pm. South wind 3 to 5 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1940.

Cooler with showers for the weekend. πŸ’¦ Saturday, a 40 percent chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 75. West wind 6 to 11 mph. Maximum dew point of 57 at 8pm. Sunday, a 50 percent chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 81. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the morning. Maximum dew point of 60 at 8am. Typical average high for the weekend is 81 degrees.

I could keep going north and seeing more of the Adirondacks or I could head home 🏑 before or after work. πŸ“ You know I don’t know. I’m watching the weather to see when the heat wave down in Albany will break before making any decisions.
