June 28, 2020 Morning
Good morning! Happy Sunday. Cloudy and 68 degrees in Delmar, NY. β Pretty good thunderstorm heading for Delmar now. There is a south breeze at 6 mph. π. The dew point is 65 degrees. The skies will clear around 6 pm.
So I’m back home π‘. Got home last night but I was tired π΄ and didn’t post anything on my blog. I did spend a little time fixing a glitch in the mobile version which came about with the scrolling π as I tried to optimize things further for speed. β
It wasn’t a bad trip home, π although I didn’t like driving the Northway as I’ve gotten very sick of Expressway driving so I tend to avoid them. But it sure is fast taking the expressway. I drove down through the high peaks – I had no interest in stopping at all – and then took the wrong road back to Hammond Pond. π Ended up in Moria. When I hiked back to Hammond Pond I got eaten alive by horse flies and slipped in the mud and decided it was time to go home.
Called mom on the phone π to see about Sunday dinner π² and I’ll probably go out there if the weather is good enough for a picnic. I also discussed what I should do next about the noise I’m hearing in the truck – she agrees with me that I should get it fixed before my next trip.
Today will havethunderstorms, with clearing later. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. Mostly cloudy π¦, with a high of 82 degrees at 4pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around July 2nd. Maximum dew point of 67 at 10am. South wind around 7 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 91 degrees. The record high of 99 was set in 1901.
Solar noon π is at 12:59 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.6Β° from the due south horizon (-0.2Β° vs. 6/21). The golden hour π starts at 7:55 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296Β°). πΈ The sunset is in the west-northwest (303Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:38 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 28 seconds with dusk around 9:12 pm, which is 3 seconds earlier than yesterday. π At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous π Moon in the south-southwest (211Β°) at an altitude of 40Β° from the horizon, 226,288 miles away. π The best time to look at the stars is after 9:58 pm. At sunset, look for thunderstorms π© and temperatures around 75 degrees. The dew point will be 64 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 29 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11pm, then a slight chance of showers between 11pm and midnight. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. Mostly cloudy π₯, with a low of 64 degrees at 6am. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 64 at 6pm. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It was humid. It got down to 70 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1981.
On this day in 1896, An explosion in the Newton Coal Company’s Twin Shaft Mine in Pittston, Pennsylvania results in a massive cave-in that kills 58 miners. π Also in 1969, Stonewall riots begin in New York City, marking the start of the Gay Rights Movement. π Lots of explosive things hpapening on this day in history. π₯
