March 12, 2020 Night

Good evening! Clouding up and 44 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 11 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. You could actually see the stars โœจ for a while when I went for my evening walk after going to the library. ๐Ÿšถ Temperatures will drop below freezing at Sunday around noontime. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

I went down to the library to do some research for Save the Pine Bush. ๐Ÿ“š Quiet at the library because they’ve canceled all community events. Smelled a bit like ammonia from all the cleaning fluid as everything does this day. ๐Ÿ˜ท Every time you hear a cough you have to cringe a bit. But I think it’s kind of silly. Just got to live your life and if you die, so be it.

I also uploaded that graphic comparison of the routing of the Mid Crosstown Arterial that I find quite fascinating. ๐Ÿšง I don’t know about you but I’m very fascinated by dragging the slider back and forth and seeing the comparison. As I explained earlier it’s not difficult to do, once you get things geo referenced. The GIS software does all the hard work. I also have some Google Maps to show but I can’t seem to get my new and improved uploader to work properly with them. I got to play with that broken code more.

Tonight will rain, mainly after 2am. ๐ŸŒง Low of 42 degrees at 3am. 18 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 28th. Southeast wind 11 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 21 degrees. The record low of -6 occurred back in 1885.

Tonight will have a Last Quarter ๐ŸŒ— Moon with 84% illuminated. The moon will rise at 10:42 pm. The Worm ๐Ÿ› Moon is on Friday, March 27. The darkest hour is at 1:06 am, followed by dawn at 6:45 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:13 am in the east (94ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 55 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 44 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:50 am with sun in the east (100ยฐ). Tonight will have 12 hours and 10 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will rain before 7am, then showers, mainly between 7am and 1pm. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 59 degrees at 2pm. 17 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 18th. Maximum dew point of 45 at 11am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Breezy, with a southeast wind 13 to 23 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 38 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 44 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 2012. 22 inches of snow fell back in 1993.โ„

I think I’ll open up my windows tomorrow. ๐Ÿ”ณ That’s a good thing because I left a gallon of milk ๐Ÿฎ on the counter top when I went to work and I can still smell the racid milk despite dumping it out. I was very sad ๐Ÿ˜” the milk went bad, it’s the first time I’ve done that in years – I didn’t catch it in the morning when I confirmed the stove was off.

In four weeks on April 9 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (281ยฐ) at 7:30 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 32 minutes and 13 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly sunny, thunderstorm and temperatures between 65 and 41 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 55 and 35 degrees. The record high of 77 degrees was set back in 1991.

With all this talk about Coronavirus, I’m thinking about a weekend trip to Schoharie County or maybe Madison County with a case of Corona beer ๐Ÿป to enjoy next to a campfire ๐Ÿ”ฅ for one night of self imposed quarantine. Exposure to natural bacteria and fresh air can be quite healthy. โ›บ Snow is gone outside of the Adirondacks although things might be muddy with the warm weather and rain expected tomorrow. Might be cold with the wind, ๐Ÿƒ and while I’m not that concerned because everything is wet I don’t want a shit ton of sparks โœจ going everywhere because it’s cold and windy. Pine Bush literature drop I had planned for the weekend has been canceled due to older members concerns about going door to door ๐Ÿšช in a community that’s already has a known spread of Coronavirus.

I am thinking of getting a box of plastic bags ๐Ÿ›„ like the grocery stores ๐Ÿฌ used to have before the plastic bag ban. You can get 1,000 plastic shopping bags for under $20 โ€” they really are dirt cheap and it would be great to carry in case you run low on bags in the store or while camping if I don’t want my reusable bags to get dirty. And then they’re great for camp trash – gone in seconds. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Goes good with the foam plates I used to use a lot while camping. Fire is more fun and easier than washing. I’ll get the plastic bags by summer. I still have plenty used plastic bags from before the ban.

Looking ahead, Easter ๐Ÿฐ is a month away and Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 8 weeks.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿฆ…Only 10 weeks remain until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

March 12, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Mostly cloudy and 34 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. โ˜ Calm wind. Without a breeze doesn’t feel really cold. I haven’t bothered to turn my heat back on again. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Saturday around 11 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Today will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 50 degrees at 5pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 28th. Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:06 pm with sun having an altitude of 44.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-26.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. That said, the your not going to see much of a shadow today. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:22 pm with the sun in the west (260ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (267ยฐ) starting at 6:56 pm and lasts for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 7:26 pm, which is one minute and 11 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:00 pm. Today in 1933, was the first of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s fireside chats. ๐Ÿ“ป Now we just have the president’s tweet storms at five am to run the news ๐Ÿ“ฐ narrative of the day. Although nobody seems to care about the presidents thoughts ๐Ÿ’ญ while he’s on the toilet ๐Ÿšฝ today, it’s all about Coronavirus. ๐Ÿ‘พ

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 47. West wind 15 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 43. Typical average high for the weekend is 43 degrees. That wind might make it a bit chilly especially after the fun goes down. We’ll see but there is still a lot of spring time left

๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผOne week remains until the first day of calendar spring!๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผ

March 10, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Definitely a dark morning with the time change and the clouds. Next Tuesday is St. Patrick’s Day ๐Ÿ€. Better watch out for the drunk drivers then, much more dangerous then the time change. It’s quite cloudy and 50 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Thursday around 3 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

I woke up this morning a bit congested ๐Ÿ‘ƒ but after a few cups of coffee โ˜•I feel pretty good. I know all they ever tell you on the radio ๐Ÿ“ป these days is if you feel the least bit sick to stay home. ๐Ÿ˜ท But if I did that I’d never make it to work as sinus congestion is pretty much the norm for me in the winter. I tell you can smell on the buses how much more aggressively they are cleaning them. I guess that forty million the governor wanted is getting put to good use.

One thing I can say, it’s nice waking up and having the windows open ๐Ÿฆ and hearing the birds chirp in the morning and the fresh air. And the rumble of the passing cars and trucks. ๐Ÿš› I think this will be the last morning in a while for open windows, but I am sure we will have enough warm up in a few weeks. And certainly April weather will be upon us before you know it. That will really help with the sinuses.

Sat out back for a while last night, ๐ŸŒƒ which was nice but it was cloudy out, and it wasn’t that quiet because my neighbors had a big fire going. I probably should have gone over, introduced myself and joined in some fun. Too bad I don’t have any alcohol to think.

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly after noon. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 62 degrees at 3pm. 20 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 23rd. Another real mild day! Spring is coming. Maximum dew point of 47 at 6pm. South wind 7 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 72 was set in 1977. 5.7 inches of snow fell back in 1964.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:06 pm with sun having an altitude of 43.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-27.3ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:19 pm with the sun in the west (259ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (266ยฐ) starting at 6:54 pm and lasts for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:24 pm, which is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:58 pm. At sunset, look for rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 58 degrees. The dew point will be 47 degrees. There will be a south-southwest breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 41 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 55 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly before midnight. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 33 degrees at 6am. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 3rd. Southwest wind 9 to 15 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had light rain in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 34 degrees. The record low of -10 occurred back in 1939.

People ask if I was smart to put $1,000 in that IRA last week to avoid taxes but I look at it as I still have 15 plus years to retirement and closer to 20 before I can touch the IRA. ๐Ÿ’ต Any blip in the market is only on paper and I had to contribute a full $1k to open the account. Next week I’ll return to contributing to the IRA as I did previously with the Roth IRA. There will be ups and downs in the market but when contribute every two weeks it smooths out gyrations of the markets. ๐Ÿ“Š

Today in 1969, in Memphis, Tennessee, James Earl Ray pleads guilty to assassinating Martin Luther King, Jr. He later unsuccessfully attempts to recant. While he may not have been a CIA agent he certainly had the tacit support of the government.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 45. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 44. Typical average high for the weekend is 43 degrees. Saturday I’m doing some door ๐Ÿšช knocking for Save the Pine Bush. Still not sure if I’m going to Schoharie this weekend. Probably not though.

๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผOnly 9 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผ Next weekend is the last weekend before calendar spring.

As previously noted, next Tuesday is St. Patrick’s Day ๐Ÿ€ when the sun will be setting at 7:04 pm with dusk at 7:32 pm. On that day in 2019, we had mostly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 36 and 26 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 45 degrees. We hit a record high of 75 back in 1990.

Hanging Out at Palenville Overlook

March 9, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Worm Moon ๐ŸŒ•! With the frost coming out of the ground, I bet earth worms are out and about. Mostly sunny and very spring like at 42 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. There is a south breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Thursday around 4 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ But a few days with the heat off and at least during the day time with the windows open. It was a bit cold when I opened the windows this morning ๐Ÿ”ณbut it was sure refreshing.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 71 degrees at 4pm. 30 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 20th. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 42 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 2016. 6.9 inches of snow fell back in 1961.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:07 pm with sun having an altitude of 43.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-27.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. Before you know it, your shadow will be as short as Mini Mike. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:18 pm with the sun in the west (259ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (265ยฐ) starting at 6:53 pm and lasts for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 7:23 pm, which is one minute and 11 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the east (84ยฐ) at an altitude of 4ยฐ from the horizon, 226,510 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:56 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 69 degrees. There will be a south-southwest breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 38 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 44 degrees at 4am. 21 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 4th. South wind around 7 mph. In 2019, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 0 occurred back in 1996.

Today in 1959, Barbie doll makes its debut at the American International Toy Fair in New York. ๐ŸŽŽ Ever since then barbie dolls have had their heads eaten off by family dogs ๐Ÿถ and boys have had fun burning their heads off with lighters.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 47. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 44. Typical average high for the weekend is 43 degrees. Kind of last weekend but only a few degrees cooler. I might do an overnight in Schoharie to check out that tiny home expo at NYPA Gilboa plant but it depends on what I’m doing with Save the Pine Bush.

๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผOnly 10 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผ

Looking ahead, there are 7 weeks until Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ when the sun will be setting at 7:51 pm with dusk at 8:21 pm. On that day in 2019, we had rain showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 50 and 40 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 63 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1962.

Spring?

March 6, 2020 Night

Good evening! Cloudy with a few snow flurries around and 36 degrees in Delmar,. NY. โ„ There is a north breeze at 14 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 1 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Stayed home, worked on some minor issues on the blog and did some reading ๐Ÿ“–. Finished off the last container of leftovers I have in the freezer. ๐Ÿฒ Definitely have to go shopping tomorrow. Going to set my clocks ahead tonight so I can practice getting up earlier this weekend as that first Monday after the time change is never fun. ๐Ÿ˜ด

Tonight will be scattered rain and snow showers before midnight, then scattered snow showers between midnight and 4am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 27 degrees at 6am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 19th. North wind 10 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2019, we had light snow in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 4 degrees. The record low of -6 occurred back in 1950.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 91% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the south (181ยฐ) at an altitude of 68ยฐ from the horizon, some 230,565 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by August 28th. Not too far away but not a super moon but you better bring a GPS for safety. Buckle up even in the rear seat for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Worm ๐Ÿ› Moon is on Monday, March 9. The darkest hour is at 12:08 am, followed by dawn at 5:55 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:23 am in the east (97ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 55 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 40 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Spring is coming, alas the due east sunrise. The golden hour ends at 7:01 am with sun in the east-southeast (103ยฐ). Tonight will have 12 hours and 28 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 41 degrees at 2pm. Typical for Tomorrow. North wind 11 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Should be a nice day but blustery. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 26 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1974. 10.3 inches of snow fell back in 1967.โ„

Tomorrow morning plan to get up bright and early โ˜€ and walk out to Five Rivers. Hopefully it won’t be too cold with the wind ๐Ÿƒ. I can always bundle up and the sun will help with the higher angle.

In four weeks on April 3 the sun will be setting in the west (278ยฐ) at 7:24 pm (Daylight Savings Time),๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 32 minutes and 33 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 62 and 32 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 53 and 33 degrees. The record high of 79 degrees was set back in 1981.

Still struggling to get my blog to update properly. ๐Ÿ“ Seems like something is wrong with the app. I will have to explore it more to figure out what is going on although I have some ideas. Sometimes the WordPress app is just funky. Yes, I use WordPress as the back end for my blog. I am a cheater.

Looking ahead, 7 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 1 weeks, Spring ๐ŸŒท is in 2 weeks, Good Friday โœ๏ธ is in 5 weeks, May ๐Ÿ•Š is in 8 weeks and 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 13 weeks.

Still Some Deeper Snow In Parts

March 6, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Next Friday is 7 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ†. Partly cloudy and 30 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. โ›… There is a east-southeast breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. A pretty decent morning although clouds are already pushing in.

Taking a well running but old hybrid bus ๐Ÿš to work today. I really like it when they run the hybrid buses on the express route as they ride really smoothly in highway speed driving ๐Ÿšฅ especially when they slow at the traffic lights. It’s not a hard stop โ›” like with the normal air brakes. Looking forward to seeing more electric buses in the future.

Today will have a chance of light rain, mainly after 5pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 47 degrees at 3pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 22nd. Northeast wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 22 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1974. 10.5 inches of snow fell back in 1887.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:07 pm with sun having an altitude of 42ยฐ from the due south horizon (-28.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:14 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (257ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (264ยฐ) starting at 5:49 pm and lasts for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 6:19 pm, which is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the east (100ยฐ) at an altitude of 42ยฐ from the horizon, 230,904 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:53 pm. At sunset, look for rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 45 degrees. Not a half bad Friday night – although next week will be Daylight Savings Time so the evenings will be even nicer. There will be a northeast breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 30 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over yesterday. Not long before more day than night.

Tonight will have a chance of rain and snow showers before 9pm, then a chance of snow showers between 9pm and 1am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 24 degrees at 6am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 11th. North wind 9 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. In 2019, we had light snow in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 4 degrees. The record low of -6 occurred back in 1950.

Today in 1857, Supreme Court of the United States rules in the Dred Scott v. Sandford case. ๐Ÿซ150 years later the Republicans still talk about it and Democrats just point out what a terrible decision it was in the context of slavery, that particular institution that lead to a war. I can see both sides of the debate, I think sometimes people aren’t as open minded about at is as they should be.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 40 degrees at 3pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 5th. North wind 10 to 14 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 26 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1974. 10.3 inches of snow fell back in 1967.โ„

Tomorrow I plan to hike out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center ๐Ÿธ bright and early. โ˜€ Then organize my camping gear. ๐Ÿ•Then maybe go to Schodack Island State Park and finally buy groceries at Aldis in the evening ๐Ÿ› and wash my truck ๐Ÿงฝ and do some cleaning at home.

Looking ahead to Sunday, sunny, with a high near 57. South wind 5 to 9 mph becoming west in the morning. Don’t forget to set your clocks back, Sunday will fly by especially with such spring like weather. Typical average high for the weekend is 41 degrees.

Sunday morning I am joining some people for a walk in the Albany Pine Bush. ๐Ÿšถ I might go right after that up to Thacher Park for another walk, maybe wearing my muck boots so my feet don’t get totally soaked up there, although they aren’t all that great for any kind of hiking, but they do keep my feet dry. Then out to the folks house for Sunday dinner. I wonder if they are doing barbecue? ๐Ÿ” Might be nice enough for that.

๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผOnly 13 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผ Less then two weeks until it’s officially the equinox and we can start thinking about mud ๐Ÿฝ and nicer weather maybe.

As previously noted, next Friday is 7 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 6:59 pm with dusk at 7:27 pm (Daylight Savings Time). On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny, sleet and temperatures between 44 and 21 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 43 degrees. We hit a record high of 70 back in 2012.

Still Some Deeper Snow In Parts

February 14, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Valentines Day โค๏ธ! I already got the email 📧 from Fur Bearer Conservation wishing me a Happy Valentines Day. Skunk trapping is kind of a skill as you don’t want to get sprayed but it’s a marketable fur. People like skunk coats. Four weeks to 7 PM Sunset 🌆.

For this Valentines Day it’s partly cloudy and 16 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. โ›… Breezy, ๏ธ17 mph breeze from the northwest 🌬 with gusts up to 32 mph 💨💨💨. The current wind chill is 0. Probably warmer for those folks milking the cows 🐮 outside Valatie with all the heat they kick off – I’m sure though with the curtains down in the barns. That said, I don’t think it’s that bad out in Delmar but it bet it will be frigid downtown. There is a inch of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at Sunday around 10 am. 🌡๏ธ

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 18 degrees at 1pm. 16 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 5 at 1pm; Northwest wind 13 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Cold. But it’s been a pretty mild winter so far. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1946. 23.5 inches of snow fell back in 1914.โ„

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:11 pm with sun having an altitude of 34.2ยฐ from the due south horizon (-36.6ยฐ vs. 6/21). The golden hour 🏅 starts at 4:46 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (246ยฐ). 📸 The sunset is in the west-southwest (253ยฐ) starting at 5:23 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 2 seconds with dusk around 5:54 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 6:28 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 16 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 2. โ˜ƒ๏ธ There will be a west-northwest breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 31 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 39 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 1 degrees at 5am. 16 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -2 at 1am; Northwest wind 6 to 11 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. In 2019, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 26 degrees. The record low of -22 occurred back in 1943.

Tomorrow will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 28 degrees at 3pm. Seven degrees below normal. Light southeast wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 50 degrees. The record high of 55 was set in 2006. 9 inches of snow fell back in 1894.โ„

Tomorrow I have a Save the Pine Bush meeting at ten o’clock 🌲🌲🌲but first I might go out hiking in the Pine Bush if it’s not too cold. Hoping like today it will be reasonable with lots of sun โ˜€ making it less cold. Following that I’m going to meet Rezsin Adam’s and do some video taping 📹 of her telling her story for the documentary. Then maybe an evening hike in the Pine Bush if it ain’t too cold.

Looking ahead to Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 41. South wind 5 to 8 mph. Typical average high for the weekend is 35 degrees. Depending on how nice Sunday is I might go hiking locally – too much snow to camp up north 🚶 but it should be a nice day. Presidents Day I’ll probably go skiing 🎿 out at Rensselaerville State Forest, it’s a long time since I’ve been out that way.

🌹🌻🌼Only 34 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼
