January 12, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. After the rain late last night it has cleared and is quite warm and sunny. Not expected to stay so warm though with the temperatures dropping all day long. Two weeks to 5:30 PM Dusk 🌆. I like coming home and the sun is still up. Partly sunny and 61 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌞 The dew point is 53 degrees. It’s fun to be thinking about the dew point in January although I should close my windows before I go for my morning walk. 🚶 Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 8 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Just got done baking the qeiche for breakfast. 🍳 Took a while to cook up but I was up by 6:30 as I no longer am sleeping in on weekends 😴 to try to maximize my time and improve health. I like watching the sun rise each morning I knew it would be a beautiful morning and so it turned out. It was so awesome waking up with the windows open.

Soon I’m going to walk the rail trail 🚈 that is after I take a pee and poop 💩 and change my socks and replace my Don’t Tread on Me: Liberty or Death 🗽 with a long sleeve shirt 👚 as the mercury is likely to drop before I get home. 🏡 Plus I figure wearing a pro-tea party shirt is probably considered a hate crime these days on New York. I’m no fan of Trump 🎺 but I like my guns 🔫, my freedom โœŠ and someday want to live off grid and farm 🚜 probably with a well ventilated burn barrel out back 🔥 .

But I’m voting for Elizabeth Warren in the primary as long as she stays off my land 🐷 and gives me affordable health care so I can retire relatively young, focus on my off grid cabin and hobby farm. Working a real job just for health insurance 😷 in my sixties would ducking suck. I’d rather be chopping wood, hauling manure on my own land and checking a trap line for dogs I can harvest their pelts to pass my time.🐺 Buy real fur, it’s good for the planet 🌏 if you like healthy working forests! Working in the city might pay big bucks but it’s so damn depressing especially in a windowless office. 💻

I just so wish there was more private locations along the rail trail to take a piss. 👨 I totally get it, they were to build outhouses along the rail trail citiods would be shooting heroin 💉in them but I find I often need to take a piss when I’m walking 🚹 and it’s not like when I’m in the woods and can pee on any old tree🌲, that is after I check above to make sure that I’m not pissing under somebody above me in a tree stand. Sounds like I have personal experience but I’m sure anybody who has field dressed a deer knows what male sex organs look like for most antlered animals.

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly before 11am. Mostly sunny, with a temperature falling to around 39 by 5pm. Sinโ˜€ Windy, with a west wind 25 to 30 mph becoming northwest 17 to 22 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 48 mph. 🍃 No real wind yet this morning. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 26 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 2018. 12.8 inches of snow fell back in 2011.โ„

It sounds like it’s going to get cold and windy but so far it’s beautiful โ˜€ with no wind or clouds but I’m sure the trails are pretty wet so alas I’m planning on doing the rail trail this morning for a while. Later I might hike somewhere else but I don’t want to be ankle deep in mud. 👢 Rain on January can really guck up the soil substructure. Not only is it tough in your ankles it really ducks 🐦 up the trails. Later on its Sunday dinner at the folks house! 🍲 Big pot of ham stew I hear. 😋

That said, later on I might go up to Partridge Run State Game Management Area later on if it’s quite sunny โ˜€ and not too cold. I always like spending time out in the wilderness country and it’s not going to as crowded as the rail trail.🌲If I walked on old Partridge Run road it’s not likely to be muddy but they probably still have snow and ice up there so I’d want my micro spikes. โ„ Might be too cold though, but I miss spending time out in the woods and in the country.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:04 pm with sun having an altitude of 25.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-45.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). The golden hour 🏅 starts at 3:59 pm with the sun in the southwest (233ยฐ). 📸 The sunset is in the west-southwest (241ยฐ) starting at 4:40 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 20 seconds with dusk around 5:14 pm, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 5:50 pm. At sunset, look for partly sunny skies 🌃 and temperatures around 41 degrees. Breezy, 17 mph breeze โ›… from the northwest. Today will have 9 hours and 19 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 27 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 23 degrees at 6am. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 8th. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 10 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1968.

🌹🌻🌼Only 67 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼

But it feels like spring already this morning. 67 bottles of beer on the walls, 67 bottles of beer. And I don’t even drink any more. 🍻 Well except in the wilderness. Spring is coming and so are the black flies and trout fishing. 🎣 Big Red gets so muddy come spring with those dirt roads in Madison and Chenango County. Muddier than the cows in spring with those dirt roads ! 🐮 I love 😍 being out in the real wilderness of deep rural New York.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until 5:30 PM Dusk 🌆 when the sun will be setting at 5:00 pm with dusk at 5:30 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 28 and 14 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 31 degrees. We hit a record high of 59 back in 1950.

January 9, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Static Electric Shock Day ๐Ÿงผ! That’s quite shocking, especially in buildings where the HVAC system isn’t doing a good controlling the humidity in the air, or those heated by wood. My parents always keep a tea kettle on their woodstove to control moisture in their house. Two weeks to National Cheese Lovers Day ๐Ÿง€. Without cows, we wouldn’t have cheese. Well, and other lactating animals, but we cows the best because they produce the most milk ๐Ÿ„ and it has most neutral taste. ๐Ÿฅ› Mostly sunny and 15 degrees at the Bethlehem Public Library as I pass it by on the earlier local bus. ๐Ÿš There is a northwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The current wind chill is 4. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 9 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Kind of a chilly morning out waiting for the bus. ๐ŸšBut I’m sure it can and will get colder this winter but I’m unadjusted to the cold โ„. Didn’t seem to cold this morning in my apartment but the wind had died down and it’s not that cold. These are the kind of mornings that I love ๐Ÿ˜ to be in the woods next to the heater sipping a hot cup of coffee โ˜•.

I got up early again because I knew I had to leave earlier for the local and needed extra time to get my suit and tie ready. ๐Ÿ‘”Last minute when I was putting my dress shirt on I discovered a stain and had to switch shirts. That’s fine although this shirt didn’t get ironed so the pocket has a wrinkle but you can’t see it under the jacket. So be it. I’ll save the other shirt for wearing with the vest. That said, I really enjoy getting up bright and early, ๐ŸŒ† watching the sun rise as I drink my coffee. โ˜• That is with a little hot coca mix put in it. I’ve heard it’s good to get a constant amount of sleep at regular times, so maybe I’ll continue to getting up at 6:30 AM come the weekend (and retiring to bed before 10 PM). ๐Ÿ›

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 29 degrees at 2pm. One degrees below normal. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 2008. 9.9 inches of snow fell back in 1953.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:03 pm with sun having an altitude of 25.2ยฐ from the due south horizon (-45.6ยฐ vs. 6/21). The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:55 pm with the sun in the southwest (232ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (240ยฐ) starting at 4:37 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 21 seconds with dusk around 5:11 pm, which is one minute and 3 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:47 pm. At sunset, look for partly sunny skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 27 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 9 hours and 15 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 16 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 21 degrees at 7pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 29th. Maximum wind chill around 21 at 6pm; South wind 5 to 13 mph. In 2019, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 24 degrees. The record low of -13 occurred back in 1968.

Still looking at mild conditions and rain heading into the weekend. โ˜”But maybe not quite reach the sixties but at least the heat will be off. Saturday, rain likely, mainly after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 59. South wind 9 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Sunday, rain likely before 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 58. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Typical average high for the weekend is 30 degrees.

Going to be a rainy weekend but I don’t mind. ๐Ÿ’ฆ I’m still thinking about heading back out to Madison County for the Martin Luther King weekend if it’s not going to be too cold, wet or snowy. โ›บ Seems like they won’t have much at this point but it could change. I still sure we will have some good snow โ›„ and an artic blast before the end of the winter season.

๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผOnly 70 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผ

I am looking forward to spring now that it’s only seventy days away. Everyday is one day closer. ๐ŸŒท I do believe time will go by quickly but that’s to my advantage because I’m a saver and investor and time gives a chance for growth.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until National Cheese Lovers Day ๐Ÿง€ when the sun will be setting at 4:56 pm with dusk at 5:26 pm. On that day in 2019, we had rain showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 40 and 9 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 31 degrees. We hit a record high of 64 back in 1906.

January 8, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Bubble Bath Day ๐Ÿงผ! I think you have to have a bathtub for that, my landlord took out the faucet and honestly the stopper hasn’t worked for years in my apartment. ๐Ÿ›€ Not that I’m a big fan of bubble baths, ๐Ÿ—ฐbut maybe it would fun if I had a sauna some day on my land. And, no I probably wouldn’t bother with biodegradable soap. I think that’s kind of silly — as long as your not dumping your soapy water in a creek it’s not a big deal. Sure, some of the commercial surfactants might not be organic, but they do breakdown over time. This morning is partly sunny and 33 1/3rd degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜€ Calm wind. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ Not a half bad day, although the sun angle is still so low, it’s still the golden hour, not even six percent yet angle. Looks like there is some fog ๐ŸŒ in the city. I’d say it’s smoke but they tore down the ANSWERS smoke stack although the other fracked gas steam plant is still operating. ๐Ÿญ

Taking the local bus ๐Ÿš to work, as I don’t like walking ๐Ÿšถ down to the express bus with a suit and tie on. ๐Ÿ‘”The dress shoes have a limited life and who wants to get all sweaty and salt covered in one’s suit. This earlier bus is a lot more crowded, especially compared to the express but I might actually be late taking the express due to all the protestors crowding into the Empire Plaza parking ๐Ÿ…ฟ garage, slowing traffic. Sitting and listening ๐Ÿ‘‚ to Don McLean’s American Pie.

Today will have a chance of snow showers, mainly after 10am. The snow could be heavy at times. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒจ, with a high of 36 degrees at 12pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 19th. Breezy, with a light and variable wind becoming west 19 to 24 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 41 degrees. The record high of 60 was set in 2008. 8.3 inches of snow fell back in 1923.โ„

I’ll be first to say I’m glad I have nothing to do with the legislative session this year – it’s going to be a wild one. ๐ŸซThe winds of change are in Albany this year and I’m quite happy in my basement office protected from the storm. Plus I get to go home at five o’clock, so no late nights waiting for and riding the bus home half awake. Plus no managing gun votes on my birthday ๐ŸŽ‚, that was not a fun day last year, but at least I got paid and saved for a better tomorrow. It’s not only the cattle farmers ๐Ÿ„ I follow on the YouTube that shovel manure for a living, even on their birthday. ๐Ÿ’ฉ Gotta make a living whether you live in South Dakota or the Albany.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:03 pm with sun having an altitude of 25.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-45.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:54 pm with the sun in the southwest (232ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (240ยฐ) starting at 4:36 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 22 seconds with dusk around 5:10 pm, which is one minute and one second later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:46 pm. At sunset, look for snow showers ๐ŸŒจ and temperatures around 29 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 15. โ˜ƒ๏ธ Breezy, 24 mph breeze โ›… from the west-northwest with gusts up to 45mph. Today will have 9 hours and 13 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 11 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of snow showers, mainly before 7pm. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 12 degrees at 6am. Three degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 3 at 1am; Breezy, with a northwest wind 15 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2019, we had mist in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1968.

Not quite as wet this weekend as earlier forecasts. โ˜” Saturday, rain, mainly after 1pm. High near 59. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Sunday, a chance of rain before 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 48. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Typical average high for the weekend is 30 degrees. It will save on the heat and I have no real outdoor plans. I’m doing that filming ๐Ÿ“น for the Resin Adam’s documentary. ๐Ÿ“„ That said, I’m not convinenced even on Sunday it will be nice enough to go for a walk somewhere in the wilderness. ๐Ÿฆ‰

๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผOnly 71 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผ

Every day is one closer to the mud and black flies of spring. ๐Ÿœ Trout fishing ๐ŸŽฃ and later sunsets and warmer nights in spring. And more nights in the wilderness. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

January 2, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Back to work today after my five days away from work and some nice camping too. โ›บ It’s the New Year, full of hope and working for a better tomorrow. ๐ŸŽ‡ Next Thursday is Static Electric Shock Day ๐Ÿงผ. How shocking. Never have much problem with static in my apartment as the air is never real dry. Partly cloudy and 30 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. โ›… There is a south breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Things will start to thaw out at around 9 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 45 degrees at 3pm. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 17th. It will feel almost like a spring day in January. ๐ŸŒธ No flowers yet but we can look forward to nicer days in about three months. Not seeing much cold in the forecast in the near future. South wind 8 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 34 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 1890. 7.1 inches of snow fell back in 2014.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:00 pm with sun having an altitude of 24.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-46.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). It’s starting to climb a bit more as summer approaches. Not 70.8 yet! The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:48 pm with the sun in the southwest (231ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (239ยฐ) starting at 4:30 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 24 seconds with dusk around 5:04 pm, which is 52 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:41 pm. At sunset, look for partly sunny skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 44 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 7 minutes of daytime, an increase of 48 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a low of 34 degrees at 1am. 18 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 6th. South wind 7 to 9 mph. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of -14 occurred back in 1970.

I saw one of the CDTA all electric battery ๐Ÿ”‹ buses ๐Ÿš running the 233 Schodack Run today. I’m glad, electric buses are the future. They bought the buses last summer but now they are live. I am hopeful the technology works out well, as it could have a lot of emissions reductions. A lot of public transit authorities are adopting electric buses, and it could have a significant impact on local air quality — and possibly noise reduction too. Morever, the all electric buses will be cleaner and nicer neighbors — the low sulfur diesel fuel and pollution traps help a lot — but emissions controls aren’t always perfect. Also, the ANSWERS smoke stack is totally gone now — they finished tearing it down last week. It’s a commitment towards a cleaner air quality for all.๐Ÿญ

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ™ Saturday, rain, possibly mixed with snow, becoming all rain after 7am. High near 40. Calm wind becoming northeast around 6 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Sunday, a chance of snow before 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 34. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 31 degrees.

Staying in town this weekend. ๐Ÿก I heard Saturday may be very wet. Maybe that’s when I’ll wash my truck. ๐Ÿš™ I can probably come up with enough groceries around town in the mean time. ๐Ÿด It’s good to use up the food ๐Ÿฒ I have at home. Not sure if I will do it this weekend but I want to go over to John Wolcott house and work on scanning in the index ๐Ÿ“‡ for his files ๐Ÿ“‚ and use it to make labels and a type set index to keep them better organized. It will have to be a Saturday so I can drive into the city with the big heavy Save the Pine Bush scanner.

I am continuing to research mental health services with my insurance provider and start to call around. ๐Ÿ“ž I am thinking a little bit of counseling and self reflection with a neutral party could really boost my productivity at work ๐Ÿ’ผ and open up new career opportunities. Maybe I’ll have more courage and confidence to do more job interviews or see a promotion and make more money ๐Ÿ’ต after some counseling. If I could turn 8 counseling sessions at $25 co-pay a piece over four months into a future $10,000 raise over a decade of investing that could be well over $100k and plug that gap in my future plans for the off-grid property out west. I have a lot of important decisions to make, especially as 2021 gets underway, and I want to make them as well as possible.

๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผOnly 77 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผ

White Rocks Overlook

December 29, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Next Sunday is National Bird Day 🐧. Partly cloudy and 33 degrees at the Glimmerglass State Park. โ›… Calm wind. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 6 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ I’ll be home by then.

It was kind of a cold start to the morning – 25 degrees according to Big Red’s DIC. 📟 I started Big Red up for a few minutes this morning after I saw the voltage โšก drop on the starting battery 🔋 after opening the door due to the cold. It was a nice night and I was plenty warm under the covers but a bit cold after I got up until I turned on the heater and sat by it for a while. I could have set up the tent 🎪 but I knew if I had the tent I would have probably stayed in late warning myself next to the heater.

I made eggs and hash 🍳 for breakfast. It was a good breakfast along with a nice big cup of coffee โ˜•. Or three. Started a small fire to burn the camp trash and toilet paper, as the ground was too cold to easily bury it in a deep hole and the Porta Potties they have in the summer 🚻 have long been removed. Any poop 💩 that doesn’t burn hot buried in the ash and what wasn’t sanitized by this fire will be gone the next fire 🔥. Sat and watched the sun rise over the horizon โ˜€ about nine o’clock. Nice morning, not too cold after sunrise. Broke camp around 10.

Today will rain, mainly after 4pm. 🌧 High of 37 degrees at 1pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 13th. Light southeast wind. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 50 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 1984. 6 inches of snow fell back in 1915.โ„

The sun will set at 4:33 pm with dusk around 5:05 pm, which is 44 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and temperatures around 35 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 9 hours and 3 minutes of daytime, an increase of 30 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain and freezing rain, possibly mixed with sleet before 11pm, then freezing rain between 11pm and 2am, then rain, possibly mixed with freezing rain after 2am. Low of 31 degrees at 8pm. 15 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 20th. East wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New ice accumulation of around a 0. 2 of an inch possible. Little or no sleet accumulation expected. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 23 degrees. The record low of -21 occurred back in 1933.

Forecast somewhat improved from Friday in Hector so I kind of wish I packed more clothes 👚 and food 🍲 so I could go out there but heading back to Glimmerglass is the wrong direction for the Finger Lakes. It still would have been a pretty cold and wet night camping up on Hector Backbone. Tuesday now promises to be better but who knows. It was a nice night 🌃 out in Madison County and it’s been a long time since I’ve been to either the Rogers Environmental Education Center or even the Moscow Hill Camping Area. It’s pretty nice there off season and it’s also right on the plowed, asphalt county road. Plus the sites are really reinforced so they’re not really muddy. This time Iucked out again and I didn’t have to burn any of the bagged wood I originally bought in November for that camping trip to the Adirondacks. I also much preferred the rural scenery to the Adirondacks – I go north too much.

I was really surprised how quiet it was up at camp. Very little traffic on Moscow Road at night, seems like most people turn the other way from Quaker Hill to head over to Hamilton. I heard the coyotes🐺 and what sounded like a weasal last night for a while 🐆 and occasionally moo of a cow from the beef farm 🐂 down the road and some tractor noises 🚜 this morning.

I am starting to think that the DEC plows the Moscow Camping Area loop โ›บ in the winter โ„ which would be cool if that’s true. I noticed that there appears to be some snow piles along the loop road but it could have just been a hunter who had a truck do it when they camped during big game season. But I’m thinking that they might do it for the snowmobile parking 🅿 but I’d be quite happy if I could come up here mid winter and have a place to camp and go cross country skiing 🎿. I don’t mind dragging my gear back a little ways on a sled or digging out a parking spot but I gotta have a place to park. Madison County can be kind of icy in the winter though and it looks like the steep and twisty county roads are mostly cleared with sand so that’s a consideration.

After cleaning my propane camp lantern 🏮 it now is super bright 🔆 again for the first time in years. I had forgotten what full output looked like. No soot on the globe either. It was just so plugged up with carbon probably because I usually run it for long periods on its lowest settings. I mostly run it as a backup in case the electric lights shut off due to an under voltage condition. I did crack the glass in it the last time I packed but it worked fine with the crack. I bought a second globe 🌐 last year but I’ve not yet had to use it.

The rechargeable LED lantern 🏮 I got for Christmas worked pretty good too. I don’t think it will replace the gas lantern for reliable all evening light in the winter but it is nice to have have something that is brighter than a flashlight, can be switched on and off, dimmed or brightened 🔆 and is lightweight, not corded and not hot like the lantern. Electric lights are fine but they have a cord. 🔌

They use a ton of sand 👡 on the roads in Madison County, especially the hills for traction. It’s certainly a lot better for the environment and cheaper but it covers everything with mud. All the cars are a deep brown. 🚙 Between the high moisture corn 🌽 the farms are hauling out, and the manure being spread on the fields 💩, and just the gray somewhat winter foggy 🌁 skies everything is so brown. But a nice shade of brown. I do like seeing the working land though and the freedom of rural life and maybe a handful of illicit burn barrels too. 🔥 Definitely a different experience than the Adirondacks. 🗻

As previously noted, next Sunday is National Bird Day 🐧 when the sun will be setting at 4:39 pm with dusk at 5:11 pm. On that day in 2019, we had rain and temperatures between 40 and 29 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 31 degrees. We hit a record high of 64 back in 1950.

Very much a classic stream and gully preserve

December 27, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Already, it’s Friday! Next Friday is Latest Sunrise of the Winter 🌄๏ธ. Cloudy and 41 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 8 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Getting ready for my road trip. โ›บ I have my packing list ready to and tonight I’ll go to the grocery store and get the needed supplies. I want to get another power cord 🔌, I’m hoping they’ll have one on sale. Got to check the oil in the truck, I’ve renewed my library books 📚 but I might want to get a few more. I have mantles ready for the lantern 🏮, I have growing confidence it will work besides deciding against testing it at home. I’ll make sure my Bluetooth speaker 🔊 and charge packs are fully charged. It should be a good trip even if things are bit wet and muddy Sunday into Monday – I’ll bring my muck boots and insulated hunting boots 👢. I am also bringing my muskrat trapping gear and will set up some sets on some of farm ponds at the national forest. 🐀

Today will have scattered showers, mainly before 4pm. Cloudy 🌦, with a high of 50 degrees at 2pm. 18 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 11th. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, โ›บ I’m just glad to be getting away for a few days this weekend into next week. The Adirondacks are nice but ultimately they’re more of a weekend trip than anything else – I go up there a lot and the Finger Lakes are a much larger trip. 🚙 I am almost certain now my route of choice at least on the way there is going to US 20 to Nelson then cut through Erieville and Sheds to NY 13 over to Cortland and down to Ithaca. I haven’t been over that way in years and it would be nice to see the farms, small towns and rural landscape. 🚜

Looking Thru Trees Towards East Hill

December 26, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Boxing Day ๐ŸฅŠ! Good day for burning all those boxes ๐Ÿ”ฅ that the Christmas presents ๐Ÿ“ฆ came in. Although I guess the greenies say the rednecks of the world should recycle โ™ป them. Apparently recycling cardboard is a good idea. Probably good for soaking up mud too. Christmas ๐ŸŽ„ is over, now they can go back to playing Freda Paine ๐Ÿ’ for the hundred ๐Ÿ’ฏ millionth time on the radio ๐Ÿ“ป. Or whatever is trendy these days, although Band of Gold is pretty singable. Does anybody even listen ๐Ÿ‘‚ to commercial radio anymore in the era of the MP3? I rarely do. Two weeks to Static Electric Shock Day ๐Ÿงผ๐ŸŒฉ. I fully expect it to be cold and dry enough then to get a good shock. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I know in the state office building I used to work in the air was purty dry.

This morning is partly cloudy โ›… around freezing degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. Calm wind ๐Ÿƒ. Not a half bad morning for late December. Bus is running on time ๐Ÿš Going to be another mild day, they’re is a trooper sitting at the Southern Boulevard Bridge. ๐ŸŒ‰ 45 mph section so probably not a lot of speeders but maybe he’s sitting up there looking for people yapping on their cellphones ๐Ÿ“ฑ. I know I can’t talk and drive, I find it hard to remember things when driving like what day of week it is. That said, I drive so little and when I’m on the road I often are in the sticks where there ain’t reception ๐Ÿ“ถ. I really should hook the bluetooth back up with my phone on my truck, it got reset the last time I reset my phone. But I use it so rarely, it’s hardly needed.

Today will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 41 degrees at 2pm. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 3rd. Light and variable wind. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 35 degrees. The record high of 59 was set in 1895. 13.9 inches of snow fell back in 1969.โ„

The sun will set at 4:27 pm with dusk around 4:59 pm, which is 39 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 40 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 9 hours and 3 minutes of daytime, an increase of 18 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of rain showers, snow showers, freezing rain, and sleet before midnight, then a chance of rain showers between midnight and 3am, then a chance of freezing rain after 3am. Sounds, charming, eh? I actually thought about leaving work on Friday early and driving out to Madison County but I decided it against it based on the forecast. Cloudyโ˜” , with a low of 32 degrees at 9pm. 15 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 16th. South wind 6 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. This weekend is going to very mild as especially out in the Finger Lakes but will end with a pretty good rain storm. Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 43. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light in the afternoon. โ˜€ Sunday, a chance of rain after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 44. Chance of precipitation is 50%.โ˜” Typical average high for the weekend is 32 degrees. It looks like Sunday evening into the Monday morning will be a good soaker, but I will bring extra tarps and books to read in the tent if it’s cold and wet.๐ŸŒง The heater will get keep the tent real comfortable. โ™จGood warm meals will be good even if it’s rainy,ย  ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿณ and if I gather plenty of wood up on Saturday into Sunday, ๐Ÿช“ I’ll have enough for a good fire on Monday and New Years Eve.๐Ÿ”ฅ

Never got around to testing the propane lantern. ๐Ÿฎ I think it’s working fine though, and I’m not sure what else I can do to repair it besides knock out that shit ton of carbon that I already knocked out of it. ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿ’จ I realized if I tested it at home, I’d end up with a ton of propane in the line, that I’d have to burn out, and with only the latern hooked up, the pressure is such that it can take 15-20 minutes for all the propane to burn out of the line. I’ll bring a wrench to camp in case I need further adjustments, but I think it will work well now. ๐Ÿ”ง

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Static Electric Shock Day ๐Ÿงผ ๐ŸŒฉ when the sun will be setting at 4:40 pm with dusk at 5:11 pm. On that day in 2019, we had rain and temperatures between 40 and 32 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 30 degrees. We hit a record high of 62 back in 2008.

Eleven degrees doesn't seem that bad
