February 13, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. The direct drive of the week. Next Thursday is 5:30 PM Sunset πŸŒ†. As the sign on the bridge says, “When there is no hope, there is spring!” And black flies. They’re waiting. 🐜 Snow, slop and 33 degrees in Delmar, NY. ❄ Calm wind. The sidewalks have the consistency of a pasture after a wet spring today with all the snow, rain and slop on them. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 7 pm. β˜ƒοΈ

Today will rain, snow and sleet, possibly mixed with freezing rain before noon, then a chance of snow showers between noon and 1pm, then a chance of rain and snow showers after 1pm. 🌧 High of 38 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 1st. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 58 was set in 1900. 9 inches of snow fell back in 1893.❄

I mean it could be worse in Trump’s 🎺 America, this could all be ice or deep snow. The later would be less sloppy but it would delay traffic with the cidiots abandoning their cars 🚘 in the middle of the street, calling it parallel parking. πŸ…Ώ I’ve been wearing my black leather work boots πŸ‘’ to work lately and keeping my dress shoes under the desk at work. Seems to work well.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:11 pm with sun having an altitude of 33.9Β° from the due south horizon (-36.9Β° vs. 6/21). The golden hour πŸ… starts at 4:44 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (246Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-southwest (253Β°) starting at 5:21 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 3 seconds with dusk around 5:52 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:27 pm. At sunset, look for possibly more rain 🌧 and snow 🌨 and temperatures around 37 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 28 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 39 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy πŸŒ₯, with a low of 15 degrees at 6am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 5th. Northwest wind 6 to 11 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 26 degrees. The record low of -13 occurred back in 2016.

Today I have to renew the two library books I have out. πŸ“š I finished up the Almost President book I was reading over the past week, and I can return it tonight when I go down to the library, but I figured I’d renew it to be safe. I am starting reading a book about electrical wiring, as I want to further my knowledge of electricity and code issues — I am hoping to understand the electrical code, so eventually when I own land I can make appropriate upgrades on my off-grid property. Even if I live in a place without code enforcement, it’s good to have a safe system that doesn’t burn your house to the ground or shock you to head.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. πŸ˜• Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 32. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon. Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 40. Typical average high for the weekend is 35 degrees.

Somehow I have this vague thought about heading out of town this weekend, β›Ί even though I know that there is no chance in hell of that happening. But come April the snow will be replaced by rain, mud and black flies I tell myself. 🎣 Trout season too. I bet there is still a ton of snow out in Madison County — actually there is a checked. So that’s probably not a realistic option but Presidents Day might still be a good opportunity to go skiing β›· maybe out at Partridge Run or Rensselearville State Forest. I haven’t been in the later in some time.🌲🌲🌲

🌹🌻🌼Only 35 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼

I decided to make macaroni and cheese again for dinner with ample broccoli. 🍲 I’m trying to cut back a bit on portions lately as I’m not as hungry and I get stuffed too early and I could use to lose weight. I saved a lot for lunch tomorrow so I won’t have to make a lunch up in the morning.

Went down to the library for a while and did some research for John Wolcott’s papers project. 📄 I’m trying to make sure that I have an accurate index 📇 and description of things. Tomorrow after work I’m going back over to his house to do more work on it.

Got home walked to Stewart’s and got moo juice. 🐮 Had a cold glass of milk or two and some frozen blueberries and corn cereal for desert. Read 📖 for a half hour more of the Almost President book. I have going to wear my Don’t Tread on Me shirt 👚 to the library but I don’t want to cause trouble. I’m almost ready for lights out. Tomorrow I have to reply back to Lynne Jackson email 📧 I keep putting off.

February 10, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Clean Your Computer Day 🧹! My computer is such a mess. Next Monday is Presidents Day 👴. Rain and snow and 35 degrees in Delmar, NY. ❄ Kind of a sloppy mix today but the roads are just wet. I did wear my black boots in and will put my dress shoes 👟 when I get to work on. There is a south breeze at 11 mph. 🍃. There is around a inch of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 10 pm. β˜ƒοΈ

Ended up catching the late bus to work. 🚍 I couldn’t find my comb and I made up eggs 🍳 and generally wasn’t moving well. The earlier bus was right on time and the late bus was running late. So yeah, I’ll be clocking 🕒 late. So be it, happens only every couple of weeks. 15 minutes isn’t the end of the world and I’ll just catch the evening bus on the top of the hill.

Today will have rain and snow likely before 1pm, then a chance of rain. Cloudy 🌧, with a high of 42 degrees at 2pm. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 10th. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 33 degrees. Cold and sunny Saturday then cloudy and warm for Sunday. :?But still a lot of time for that to change. Monday is Presidents Day even in Trump’s America, actually only in New York because the federal government still celebrates Washington’s Birthday then New York celebrates President’s Day. Saturday, sunny, with a high near 25. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 39. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 35 degrees.

Good evening! Rain and 33 degrees in Delmar, NY. β˜” Calm wind. There is a inch of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 3 pm. β˜ƒοΈ

It’s above freezing by a little bit in Albany 💦 so the roads are just wet and salty. I cleaned off my truck of the inch of snow and ice as I think it’s going to turn to snow tomorrow followed by a hard freeze Saturday and I didn’t want things to freeze up on my truck. Things were a little icy on the truck but the warmer temperatures this evening made for relatively easy scraping.

The primary business of the evening was going to the Rick Sieves film showing 🎥 at the library than I came home rode the exercise bike 🚲 for a bit and read 📖 mote of the Almost President book. My neighbor works night shift tonight so no concerns with bothering him with the noise of the bike. Time for bed soon with lights out.

Tonight will rain likely before 1am, then showers likely after 1am. Cloudy 🌧, with a low of 32 degrees at 9pm. 16 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 1st. Buckle up for safety! 💺 The Snow ❄ Moon is on Sunday, February 9. The darkest hour is at 12:10 am, followed by dawn at 6:36 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:06 am in the east-southeast (111Β°) and last for 3 minutes and 7 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 10 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 7:46 am with sun in the east-southeast (118Β°). Tonight will have 13 hours and 48 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 31 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will rain before 2pm, then rain and snow between 2pm and 3pm, then snow likely after 3pm. 🌦 High of 36 degrees at 10am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 19th. Breezy, with a light and variable wind becoming northwest 17 to 22 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. I think tomorrow’s commute home could be very icy and a slog but at least I don’t have to drive in it and can just play on my phone 📱. I might take the local into work tomorrow if it’s raining hard in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became light freezing rain by afternoon. The high last year was 47 degrees. The record high of 48 was set in 2005. 12.4 inches of snow fell back in 1983.❄

I am pretty sure I can do some neat things with the automatic bus locator feed I posted earlier. 🚍 While I doubt I’ll mess too much with Google maps – although I certainly could, I do think that I could do a lot with it client side Javascript and making a simple but fast index of the location of all the buses on a route for checking on one’s phones and maybe also tracking the electric buses. Looks like the weekend forecast continues to slide downhill – I could still go to that Adirondack Outdoors show but at this point I don’t know for sure. 🎣 It’s a long drive for a relatively small show. I also want to do some soldering projects and practice especially once I get hat flux pen.

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 30 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a northwest breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 2 pm. 🌡️ Going to be kind of cool tomorrow it seems. Or actually closer to seasonable.

Marconi and cheese this dinner with broccoli and tomato chunks in it. 🍲 A pretty good dinner. Fixed the hole in the pocket of my overcoat – it had allowed a few times for my keys 🔑 to slip into the back pocket. Neighbors are home 🏡 tonight and it’s a fairly nice night so I skipped riding the exercise bike in favor of the evening walk. 🚶 Nice walk, ice free and not too cold or wet. Finished up reading 📖 Murdock’s World about the FoxMedia empire. 📰

I’m trying to devote at least 45 minutes a night to reading as I know it’s as important to a healthy life πŸ™„ as riding the exercise bike. I got to work more on limiting my portion sizes for food 🐽but I always try to have a lot of veggies with each meal 🌽 and fruit in morning. 🍒 I don’t have snacks at home besides fruit and for beverages it’s flavored water or apple juice. 🍏

Tonight will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 26 degrees at 2am. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 16th. So yeah, tomorrow is my birthday 🎂. One’s 37 birthday is hardly a milestones, it’s just one day closer to owning my own land and eventually retiring 🏡. But that’s still many years off but a focus on a long term goal is good as it encourages me to save 💰and consume less and make less waste. β™» This next year I plan to stay the course and continue to expand my knowledge and my horizons as I look toward a better tomorrow. New and exciting choices and changes will come to my life by the end of the upcoming year.

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 29 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ Calm wind. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 10 am. 🌡️

I went over to John Wolcott house 🏡 for a few hours this evening, sorting files 📂. I had a very interesting conversation with him about Fort Orange and Interstate 787, I wish I had recorded it. 📼 I’m sure there are many audio recording apps that I could download. Had a quick burrito for dinner 🍣and then sat back in bed finishing off the book I was reading 📖 on Storm Lake Iowa and moved on to reading a book about the history of Rupert Murdock’s media empire.

Besides going to bed earlier and getting up early, I’ve tried to make reading a much higher priority this year 📚. I plan to go to the park much more this year once it gets nice and also read out back more.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 40 degrees at 2pm. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 4th. Light and variable wind. Should be a real nice Friday. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 48 degrees. The record high of 54 was set in 1999. 7.6 inches of snow fell back in 1948.❄

Been such a busy week for me 💼 but at least tomorrow is Friday. Getting to bed earlier and getting up earlier seems to have helped a lot with my sleep, even if it does seem a bit odd to be getting up on Saturday before dawn. But I feel so much more rested at work. That’s good. Saturday is the Save the Pine Bush Hike that I’m leading at 9:30 🚶 then the No War with Iran protest 🐦 at 11 am which I want to do but I’m not sure if the hike will be done by then and it might be wet. Chet’s Wake is at 3 pm and I probably should put on my suit and black tie 👔and attend that.

January 19, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Next Sunday is 5:30 PM Dusk 🌆. Cloudy and 33 degrees in Delmaritian. ❄ There is a southwest breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. There are 3 1/2 inches of snow on the ground, but it alrasty warm enough that the roads are just wet and with the sun out the snow isn’t expected to last long – the first half of next week will be cool – but come Wednesday we will have temperatures more like March than January. β˜ƒ ️

Still not feeling great 😷 but its tough in the winter with the stuffy inside air. I still got up at 6:30 am and made up cornbread 🍞 waffles but I sure feel congested. Nice and warm in the apartment as I turned the heat up yesterday and it’s mild enough this morning that it’s clicked off and well into the mid 60s in my bedroom.

Riding the exercise bike 🚲 and its working good and fairly quiet after lubrication but there is a bit of a rubbing noise from the brake which I set to add more resistance to the pedaling for more cardiovascular effort. I should see if my parents have some unused weights I could use or maybe I could use those big heavy brake disc’s for lifting that is once I clean off all the dust. Lifting those would probably be quite good for upper body strength 💪. Using the brake disc’s might be a better idea as they are something I already have and don’t need more stuff.

Today will become partly sunny 🌦 later on, with a high of 36 degrees at 11am. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 19th. Again not real cold but the wind will make it a bit nippy. Southwest wind 5 to 14 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became light snow by afternoon. The high last year was 31 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1929. 8.5 inches of snow fell back in 1886.❄

I should go to the store today as I’m really low on dairy products 🐮, I don’t have any cheese or butter which is no fun for sure. I am thinking about getting the stuff to bake bread 🍞 because I haven’t done that in years and I never have bread at home except when my parents give me left over rolls half of which end of getting moldy and tossed into the compost.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:07 pm with sun having an altitude of 27Β° from the due south horizon (-43.9Β° vs. 6/21). The golden hour 🏅 starts at 4:08 pm with the sun in the southwest (235Β°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-southwest (243Β°) starting at 4:48 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 16 seconds with dusk around 5:22 pm, which is one minute and 13 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 5:57 pm. At sunset, look for some remaining snow showers around 🌨 and temperatures around 30 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 13 mph with gusts up to 28mph. Today will have 9 hours and 30 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 48 seconds over yesterday.

Maybe I’ll also go skiing 🎿. If I do that I’ll probably go down to Schodack Island State Park assuming there is enough sun β˜€ and the snow doesn’t melt right away. I’m not super sick but with my head congestion I don’t want to over exhaust myself and get sick. 😷

I should do some cleaning today and reading too later. 📖 Maybe get out my soldering iron and repair my wall display. May continue to scrub the soap scum off the walls of my bathroom 🛀

Tonight will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 12 degrees at 6am. Two degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 1 at 5am; Northwest wind 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. The record low of -22 occurred back in 1970.

That’s always a good sign. 🌷Not sure how long this winter will last but I can’t believe we will get away without at least one more big storm and a cold period. I really am not planning on many big trips until April, as March is always busy at work, even with my new job if only for different reasons.

As previously noted, next Sunday is 5:30 PM Dusk 🌆 when the sun will be setting at 5:00 pm with dusk at 5:30 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 28 and 14 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 31 degrees. We hit a record high of 59 back in 1950.
