October 12, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Columbus Day ! โ›ต ๐Ÿ‚ Cloudy but no rain yet and 43 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜๏ธ There is a east-southeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear tomorrow around 5 pm.

Cool but not a bad autumn morning. โ˜๏ธ More sun though would be nice. It was a nice weekend ๐Ÿ‚ and I sort of wish I had headed out of town but I did get some nice hiking in at Hand Hollow Conservation Area and the State Forest of the same name, followed by a visit to the Ooms Conservation Area, an open fields birding area ๐Ÿฆ above a water supply pond near the Ooms Dairy ๐Ÿฎ in Columbia County. Speiglton Lake is quite pretty little Reservoir nestled in the hills although certainly parts of Hands Hollow were noisy from the Lebanon Valley Speedway and being race day. ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ Looked like a good place to hunt on the state forest, as the woods is fairly thin and full of wildlife ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ and it’s less known as a newer state forest. Outside of Speiglton Lake there aren’t a lot of trails but most of the woods is quite accessible as long as you have a good map ๐Ÿ—บ to stay on public property.

After hiking I bought stuff to make good baked Macoroni and Cheese ๐Ÿง€ and it came out pretty good, washed down with a bunch of beer ๐Ÿป. And I have meals ๐Ÿด for all week and I might end up freezing it in smaller containers for more food later on so I’m not just eating the same thing over and over this week.

Columbia County with all those monied folks in those old houses is quite a trip. ๐Ÿฃ So many houses with Black Lives Matters signs and Biden Harris lawn signs. I had to joke to myself that there are more people with Black Lives Matters signs then there are black people in that part of the county. ๐Ÿคจ I bet though running a dairy in that area must be a bit challenging with the gentrifiers finding every reason to complain. ๐Ÿ„

Columbus Day ๐Ÿ‚โ›ต will have a slight chance of rain between 2pm and 3pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 53 degrees at 1pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 2nd. Southeast wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. The high last year was 66 degrees. The record high of 85 was set in 1954. There was a dusting of snow in 1904.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:42 pm with sun having an altitude of 39.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-31.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:41 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (254ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (260ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:19 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 56 seconds with dusk around 6:45 pm, which is one minute and 39 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:20 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 52 degrees. There will be a east-southeast breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 11 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 48 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain, mainly after 1am. Patchy fog after 2am. ๐ŸŒง Low of 49 degrees at 9pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 27th. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 42 degrees. The record low of 24 occurred back in 1981.

So yeah its not going to be a real nice day. ๐ŸŒฅ I’m going over to John Wolcott house to do more filming tonight ๐Ÿ“ผ, we will see how things go. With work I’m not sure if I’ll have much free time to get over there and go through his files ๐Ÿ“‚ though until November.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 55. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 56. Typical average high for the weekend is 59 degrees.

I would really like to get out of town this weekend โ›บ but I have to make sure I have good cell service ๐Ÿ“ฑ for work. I’m still leaning towards Madison County at this point. Things could change – some forecasts are more pessimistic especially for Friday but I’ll continue to watch it an decide. Turns out that weather wise the past weekend would have been nicer. โ˜€๏ธโ›ต๐Ÿ‚

Looking ahead, there are 7 weeks until Cyber Monday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ and Beaver Moon ๐Ÿป ๐ŸŒ• when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm (Standard Time). Probably have to turn the heat back on by then. โ™จ

I was thinking about spending the day hiking Harvey Mountain and Beebe Hill โ›ฐ๏ธ but it doesn’t look it it is going to be a real sunny day. It’s a bit of a drive out there so I don’t want to go out there if the weather is going to be cloudy. โ˜๏ธ

Farm Field Along Hedgerow

October 9, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 52 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒŒ There is a south breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 46 degrees.

I just got back from my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป and are sitting out back. Nearly all week I’ve been doing five miles a day walking around the neighborhood.

It’s Columbus Day Weekend โ›ต but with the power outage earlier this week and lost productivity, today was super busy to say the least. But I thought it was a week. ๐Ÿ˜ณ I did drop the ball on one thing ๐Ÿคน๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ but things ultimately worked out. It’s so easy to get distracted when you are working on one thing and five others come in the door.

It looks like nothing spoiled or went bad โ„ during the 24 hours I didn’t have power midweek. I had quite a bit of ice in freezer so I wasn’t concerned although I thought the freezing and thawing of the frozen items could have been problematic. Some of the frozen cherries ๐Ÿ’ I had seemed to be a bit crystallized but they were almost done and I’ll finish them off in the morning. The frozen mixed vegetables were fine ๐Ÿฑ as was the fish sticks. ๐Ÿ  Milk ๐Ÿฅ› was still ice cold although I did finish that off this morning and bought more after my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป.

Tonight will be partly cloudy โ˜๏ธ, with a low of 50 degrees at 11pm. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 21st. South wind 7 to 9 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 49 degrees. The record low of 25 occurred back in 1980.

Tonight will have a Last Quarter ๐ŸŒ— Moon with 48% illuminated. The moon will rise at 11:29 pm. The darkest hour is at 12:43 am, followed by dawn at 6:34 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:03 am in the east (98ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 55 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:41 am with sun in the east-southeast (105ยฐ). Tonight will have 12 hours and 40 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 77 degrees at 4pm. 15 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 4th. Maximum dew point of 56 at 4pm. South wind 11 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 69 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1939. 0.8 inches of snow fell back in 1925.โ„

Sounds like a great day โ˜บ but like everything I might be busy with work and other things going on. I also don’t know how quickly the clouds will push in by afternoon โ›… or if we will get thunderstorms.

In four weeks on November 6 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (248ยฐ) at 4:41 pm (Standard Time),๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 40 minutes and 50 seconds earlier then tonight. Gorge Between Middle and Lower Falls

October 8, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 46 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒŒThere is a west-northwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

Honestly tonight would be a better night for the power to be out ๐Ÿ”Œ for enjoying the stars โœจ but at least it’s back on and it’s nice evening. Heck of it is the power outage wouldn’t have been so bad if data service wasn’t out all last night and most of the day. ๐Ÿ“ถ I mean most of the things I do I do with my phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ and I have my truck for solar power for charging the laptop. And if it was normal times and not a pandemic and I was working in the office, ๐Ÿข the impact would have been even less.

Having nearly five gallons of salt water ice in the freezer for camping โ„ the frigerator remained ice cold ๐Ÿป when I reached in for some milk ๐Ÿฅ› mid-day. I left the windows open last night to keep things extra cold in the apartment although this really isn’t a bad time of year for a power outage – not too cold that one has to worry about heat or two warm and having to worry about the ice melting and things spoiling in the freezer.

Tonight will have patchy frost after 4am. Otherwise, mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 35 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 31st. West wind 5 to 8 mph. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 43 degrees. The record low of 27 occurred back in 2001.

Tonight will have a Last Quarter ๐ŸŒ— Moon with 58% illuminated. The moon will rise at 10:32 pm. The darkest hour is at 12:43 am, followed by dawn at 6:33 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:02 am in the east (98ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 55 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:39 am with sun in the east-southeast (104ยฐ). Tonight will have 12 hours and 38 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have patchy frost before 9am. Otherwise, sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 61 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 12th. West wind 3 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 65 degrees. The record high of 83 was set in 1949. There was a dusting of snow in 2000.โ„ Not ready to think about snow yet but it certainly can snow ๐ŸŒจ in a week or two from now.

In four weeks on November 5 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (249ยฐ) at 4:42 pm (Standard Time),๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 41 minutes and 20 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 56 and 36 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 52 and 34 degrees. The record high of 75 degrees was set back in 1994.

Whirlpool State Park High Above

October 8, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Dark Thursday. ๐Ÿ˜Š No power still this morning. ๐Ÿ”Œ Next Thursday is Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚. Mostly sunny and 43 degrees in the land of the Delmartian. There is a west-northwest breeze at 15 mph. ๐Ÿƒ with gusts up to 25 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ.

I still can’t believe there is no power in Delmar. ๐Ÿ”Œ There are a few branches down but not a lot. The traffic lights ๐Ÿšฅ are working mainly because they’re on portable generators. Nice morning though. ๐ŸŒ…

I ended up eating breakfast out back. โ˜• Fresh coffee on a cold but sunny morning is always a good thing. ๐Ÿณ Camp stove works fine without electricity.

Out for my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป. I thought they had power back on in Delaware but it’s just a generator. โšก

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 59 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 17th. The record high of 80 was set in 2017.

I guess if you are going to loose power this is the weather to be in the dark. ๐ŸŒƒ Nights are long but you don’t need heat โ™จ but it’s cool enough that my refrigerator packed full of ice should be good for a few days.

It looks like I won’t be getting

Spruce Street

October 7, 2020 Night

Good evening! Rain showers and 56 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” Breezy, ๏ธ22 mph breeze from the west ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 44 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. The dew point is 44 degrees.

I don’t mind not having power ๐Ÿ”Œ but not having data service for my phone all afternoon although now it’s working again. Not sure if the network was totally overloaded but it was frustrating ๐Ÿ˜ค getting emails in but not able to respond. ๐Ÿ“ง I sat out back for a while but it started to rain so I came inside.

I ended up running in office ๐Ÿข downtown to get to emails because it was bad to be totally off the grid at work all afternoon. Not good for remote working. โ›ฝ I was very low on gas so I ended up getting gas at the expensive gas station in Albany because Glenmont was still dark on my way home. I was planning on going to the store ๐Ÿ›’ and get some groceries but everything is still dark in Glenmont. Not a lot of trees down but there was no stop lights ๐Ÿšฅ on Delmar bypass.

Tonight will have isolated showers before 10pm. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 43 degrees at 6am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 6th. Tonight will have 12 hours and 35 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 58 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 20th. Northwest wind 13 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 65 degrees. The record high of 80 was set in 2017.

I thought by now we we would have power ๐Ÿ”Œ but at least I have data service. ๐Ÿ“ถ I can plug things into my truck with the solar come morning. ๐ŸŒ… But I’m sure by morning I’ll have power. That said I’m using my usual battery ๐Ÿ”‹ lantern ๐Ÿฎ for light in my bedroom and it’s plenty bright. I didn’t do my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป although it probably wouldn’t have been good with the weather at any rate.

With the latest forecast I decided to stay in town this weekend as it only looks like the hurricane ๐ŸŒ€ will be pushing in earlier than expected and Sunday into Monday will be quite wet.

It was a pleasant evening sitting out back. ๐ŸŒŒ Maybe not the clearest night but it’s mild and pleasant for sitting out back. In the morning I’ll head down to the library ๐Ÿ“š and work down there for a Zoom Meeting ๐Ÿ“น. Midday ๐Ÿ•› I’m thinking about getting my flu shot. ๐Ÿ’‰ Seems like a good day to get it without many crowds and it’s more important now than before as nobody wants to get the flu with Coronavirus all around.
