October 17, 2020 Evening

Good evening! Clear and 34 degrees at the Cherry Ridge Camping Area. ๐ŸŒŒThere is a south-southwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Cool but clear, I have a big ol roaring fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ tonight to stay warm.

While I was kind of hoping I’d have the whole camping area here to myself ๐Ÿ‘ค so I could listen to music ๐ŸŽถ as loud as I wanted to, there are a few campers down the way and they seemed to have gone inside pretty early because of the cold. I know that I usually prefer to camp at a roadside site that is more spread out but there aren’t many options nearby.

It was a nice day, lots of blue skies and fall colors ๐Ÿ‚๐ŸŒž but as to be expected in higher elevations they had very much faded away. Spent the bulk of the day at Glimmerglass State Park ๐Ÿž and then poked around Cooperstown for a while, which was really hoping but I didn’t want to spend too much time there with the pandemic. ๐Ÿ‘พ Of course, because I’ve been traveling my phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ wants me to install the state’s COVID-19 tracking app but honestly that’s creepy and it’s not like I’ve been indoors or near anybody except for a brief stop at Hannaford on Daunesburg to pick up some groceries. ๐Ÿช

All day was kind of cold โ„ although part of it was I’m unwilling to accept winter is coming and I was just wearing a t shirt ๐Ÿ‘š with my vest. The colors were really good down by the lake and up here by camp. โ›บ

I really like the rough cut lands ๐Ÿšœ๐Ÿš๏ธ of the backroads of Otsego and Madison County, the mud and manure, the run down farm houses and the earthy smell of livestock. ๐Ÿฎ The junk cars and rusty tractors, the goats ๐Ÿ staked down in front yard, the deer ๐ŸฆŒ hung from the tree, the pig pen ๐Ÿฝ in the corner of the yard.

In a few years I plan to live in a place like that. ๐Ÿก๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ– I’m making good money at my job now ๐Ÿ’ต but I’m really trying to save every penny I can, so I can eventually own land out in the country, live in small town. But not New York State – I don’t want to have to beg some judge for a pistol ๐Ÿ”ซ permit and I want to be able to have burn barrels ๐Ÿ›ข and have fires to burn debris and brush whenever I want and not spend all my money on property taxes. In other words rural living minus the New York State part. Kind of like Pennsyltucky minus the high taxes although there is a lot to like about the state especially in the Pennsylvania Wild Region although many other parts of the state have wooded hills above the fertile valleys. ๐ŸŒ„

Today should be a really nice day. ๐ŸŒ… Right now there isn’t a cloud in the sky. Just finishing up breakfast ๐Ÿณ and I will take a quick shower ๐Ÿšฟ, check the oil ๐Ÿ›ข in Big Red and be off. ๐Ÿš˜

Today’s plans include Glimmerglass State Park and spending some time walking ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป around Cooperstown then camping ๐Ÿ• and heading down down to Sherburne and the Environmental Education Center come morning. Good evening! Cloudy โ˜๏ธ and damp and 44 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

I got a few things packed and are ready for tomorrow’s adventure. โ›บ Things have been scaled down as I think I’ll only get two nights camping with the forecast and because I’m busy with work and I have to be back for the work session and meetings on Tuesday. October 15, 2020 Night

Good evening! Rain showers and 60 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a south-southwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 52 degrees.

Kind of a rainy evening but earlier on it was clear ๐ŸŒƒ and I was able to go for my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป. That’s good as with the weather tomorrow I’ll probably be stuck home and not be able to do my walk. I sat out back for a while but I’m pretty tired ๐Ÿ˜ด for some reason and I’m laying in bed ๐Ÿ›.

For a while I was feeling a bit achy and after going to the library ๐Ÿค“ to work for a while went home ๐Ÿก and took my temperature and I was 98.6 degrees. Every little sniffle and I’m sure I have COVID-19. ๐Ÿค’ But even when you’re socially isolated there are still allergies and I’m getting ols ๐Ÿง“ to boot.

That said, it was a delightful afternoon working down at the park bench at library. ๐Ÿ–ฅ I miss going down to the library and working outside. I usually just stay in my truck down there because it’s safer with Coronavirus ๐Ÿ‘พbut the danger of sitting on an outdoor park bench is pretty low especially on a sunny and breezy day like today was until the rain came through late. ๐ŸŒž

Tonight will have 12 hours and 57 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will rain. ๐ŸŒง High of 53 degrees at 11am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 2nd. Maximum dew point of 50 at 6am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Northwest wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 63 degrees. The record high of 88 was set in 1947. There was a dusting of snow in 2009.โ„

I am concerned that I had left my USB hub ๐Ÿ”Œ and Bluetooth adapter either down at the library or it fell out of my bag. I’ve been looking around, I’m hoping I’ll find it inside as with the rain I’m sure it will be destroyed. That said, those little Bluetooth adapters I get from China ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ on AliExpress are only a couple of dollars.

October 14, 2020 Night

Good evening! Clear and 50 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. ๐ŸŒŒ

So far it’s a nice night with crickets ๐Ÿฆ— in the background and stars up above but I’m tired after a long day and will soon head inside. Worked most of the day down at the library parking lot ๐Ÿ…ฟ and then came home. Installed the new battery ๐Ÿ”‹ in my laptop. ๐Ÿ’ป Called into the Guilderland Town Planning Board meeting with a concern about the proposed Rapp Road rerouting. ๐Ÿšง Answered some emails ๐Ÿ“ง and went for my evening walk, maybe even watching a YouTube video ๐Ÿ“บ and making up a few new maps ๐Ÿ—บ for the blog.

Tonight will have 12 hours and 54 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 49 seconds over last night.

Mornings sure are dark this time of year. ๐ŸŒ… While it’s not such a big deal as I don’t have a bus ๐Ÿš to catch downtown but I like the morning walk before the deluge of emails and calls come in. ๐Ÿ“ฅ

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 72 degrees at 3pm. 12 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 17th. Maximum dew point of 54 at 2pm. South wind 11 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 62 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 1897. There was a dusting of snow in 1939.โ„

I plan to work from home ๐Ÿก tomorrow, and it should be a nice day to work out back if not too windy. It’s nice that my personal laptop now once again has a good battery life. ๐Ÿ”‹ That said I usually have my truck ๐Ÿšš or the wall outlet to plug ๐Ÿ”Œ it into. One nice thing about working remotely is that I can work outside. That said, I do kind of miss going downtown and having a real office ๐Ÿข.

Not sure if I’m going to be able to get out of town this weekend. โ›บ I’m watching the forecast but honestly it doesn’t look all that great. Maybe it’s best I stay home. I don’t know. I should have headed out last week quite honestly. It’s not like I’m going to have my weekend free to myself I’m sure I’ll still be busy doing the usual for work.

In four weeks on November 11 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (246ยฐ) at 4:36 pm (Standard Time),๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 37 minutes and 59 seconds earlier then tonight. The record high of 70 degrees was set back in 2002.

Finally fixed some of the issues with the countdown clock โŒ› below. Namely I often cut and paste from previous years and forget to update things. But I should be good now with the right dates for holidays through the end of the year.

Looking ahead, Average High is 55 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 2 weeks, Day After Election Day ๐Ÿ›€ is in 3 weeks, Veterans Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 4 weeks, Earliest Sunset of the Year โŒ›๏ธ is in 8 weeks, Tea Party Day ๐Ÿ is in 9 weeks, Festivus ๐Ÿ– is in 10 weeks, Bacon Day ๐Ÿฅ“ is in 11 weeks, Make Your Dream Come True Day ๐Ÿก is in 13 weeks, Coldest Week of the Year ๐ŸŒฌ is in 3 months, Inauguration Day โœ… is in 14 weeks, Clean Your Computer Day ๐Ÿงน is in 17 weeks, Valentines Day โค๏ธ is in 4 months and Presidents Day ๐Ÿ‘ด is in 18 weeks.

October 13, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 50 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒŒ There is a northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear around 9 pm.

It was a pretty cloudy when I started out on my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป but now it’s a pretty nice starry evening not bad for mid October. Its hard to believe in less than three weeks it will be November and Election Day will have come and gone. I’m going to have to get my truck inspected ๐Ÿ”Ž then. I don’t know, it’s rapidly get cold outside so I might go inside and watch one of those YouTube videos that I downloaded earlier. ๐Ÿ“บ

I thought about going to John Wolcott’s house this evening after work ๐Ÿก but truth be told I was pretty tired ๐Ÿ˜ด again and soon after I left the office ๐Ÿข I got a bunch of emails ๐Ÿ“ง to work on from home. Memos and more. But I’m fine for the night. ๐Ÿ“– We are also making good progress on his files ๐Ÿ“‚ and while I’m sure there is more of interest, the Fort Orange file is mostly done. The more recent files are far less interesting to me, mainly because while they are historical research, the fights to save history aren’t yet historic like the things from the Erastus Corning years. ๐Ÿง“

Calm wind becoming west 5 to 9 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 71 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 1920.

I got the new boots ๐Ÿ‘ข I ordered in the mail today. โœ‰ That’s good. I wore the black leather boots I got today to work but I’d rather wear the regular boots around home or casually. I also ordered lantern ๐Ÿฎ mantles but they’re back ordered. I want to clean the lantern well and replace the mantles before I go camping next. โ›บ

October 12, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 49 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a east-southeast breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear tomorrow around 8 pm.

Busy day at work, ๐Ÿ’ผ spent most of the day working down at the public library at various projects. The wi-fi was quite reliable and fast today and the weather was comfortable – not hot or cold for working. Spent most of the day there.

Somehow I’ve misplaced my headphones ๐ŸŽงand while I’ve been looking for them today will need to do more digging around tomorrow. They probably fell between the seat ๐Ÿ’บ of the truck ๐Ÿšš or somewhere else. I figured in the morning there will be more light to find them.

For some reason my kitchen stinks of carburetor cleaner. ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐Ÿป I think the rusty can must have leaked. Pungent. I opened the windows and will avoid doing anything that could light a spark โœจ tonight. Hopefully things won’t go bang. ๐Ÿ’ฅ I thought it was at first something my neighbor was painting ๐ŸŽจ out back but I’m pretty sure it’s a leak in the rusty aerosol can.

I went over to John Wolcott house and did over two hours recording the documentary. ๐ŸŽž๏ธ Definitely captured some interesting conversations with Jerry who has known Mr. Wolcott for a very long time.
