Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 54 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. The dew point is 50 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 5 am.

Remarkably warm for second week of August. โ™จ I sat out back for a while after my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป and it was quite pleasant. A fairly busy day at work but I did get down to Hannaford ๐Ÿช for the essentials. Tomorrow it’s back downtown for work.

Tonight will have patchy fog after midnight. Otherwise, mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 47 degrees at 3am. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 27th. Going to be a really nice day tomorrow โ˜€ and in some ways I’m bummed out that I’ll be working downtown. I guess I could do the meeting remotely ๐Ÿ“ฑ but it’s so much more productive to have the in person meeting and plus I’m planning on going to John Wolcott’s house later. ๐Ÿก

October 5, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Monday, Monday. And not a pay week this week. ๐Ÿ’ธAt least it’s not California Dreaming although these days it seems like North Idaho dreaming would be the song on the radio. Too popular and expensive for my taste now. Next Monday is Columbus Day โ›ต ๐Ÿ‚ . Usually the best for autumn color although this year will likely be past peak. Foggy ๐ŸŒ and cloudy โ˜๏ธ and 44 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The skies will clear around 2 pm.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 64 degrees at 3pm. Typical for today. Maximum dew point of 49 at 6pm. Light and variable wind. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 59 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1941. Should be a nice day for the start of the second week of October.

Kind of slept in today ๐Ÿ› being a gray start to the morning with the fog and clouds. ๐ŸŒซ I had blueberry pancakes ๐Ÿฅž again and lots of coffee โ˜•. I didn’t quite get a chance to go for my walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป but hopefully the evening can be good for that.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:44 pm with sun having an altitude of 42.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-28.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:53 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (258ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (264ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:31 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 6:57 pm, which is one minute and 43 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:31 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 61 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 11 hours and 31 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 47 degrees at 6am. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 27th. Light south wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 41 degrees. The record low of 24 occurred back in 1965.

A picture perfect Columbus Day โ›ต ๐Ÿ‚ Weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, sunny, with a high near 69. Maximum dew point of 51 at 3pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 67. Maximum dew point of 52 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 62 degrees. That said, because it’s been a relatively cool late September this year the leaves may be past peak in many locations.

While I’m not totally decided, I’m leaning towards staying in town for Columbus Day Weekend. โ›ต๐Ÿ‚ That doesn’t mean day hikes ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป or even some hunting but I don’t want to go to a crowded campground in Madison County when I can go a week later and see no one. If I didn’t need cell service ๐Ÿ“ถ I would have more options but I’m not really interested in going to either the Green Mountains or Spectulator again. I’ve also only really budgeted for one trip this month.

Looking ahead, there are 8 weeks until Cyber Monday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ and Beaver Moon ๐ŸŒ• when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2019, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 33 and 19 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 42 degrees. We hit a record high of 67 back in 1933.

October 4, 2020 Night

Good evening! Moon lit fog and 47 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒซ Calm wind. Another nice moon lit night for my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป ๐ŸŒ– with temperatures starting to cool off a bit.

It was nice hiking up at Partridge Run ๐Ÿฆ† although while I saw some common field birds and a few Ruffled Grouse not a lot of wildlife but it may have been the time of day. ๐Ÿฟ So many chipmunks but the woods is so full of rodents lately.

Had a really nice Sunday dinner with the folks ๐Ÿฒ and brought home some leftovers for later in the week. I had to tap my brakes when I saw a deer ๐ŸฆŒ and it fell off the seat but it was fine. Also mom made a good apple ๐Ÿ pie ๐Ÿฅง.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒซ with a low of 43 degrees at 4am. Typical for tonight. Calm wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 34 degrees. The record low of 26 occurred back in 1965.

I decided to close the windows tonight, โฌ› because the past few mornings have been very cold for waking up. While I doubt I’ll turn the heat on for at least another month or so โ™จ it’s cold enough at night now that I think ๐Ÿค” I’ll be closing the windows before bed at least a few times a week.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 90% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the east (89ยฐ) at an altitude of 20ยฐ from the horizon, some 251,380 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by April 13th. The record high of 91 was set in 1941.

Should be a nice Monday to get down to work. ๐Ÿ’ผ Probably work down at the library parking lot ๐Ÿ…ฟ for a while and then out back. With the sun setting early not a lot of time to get down to the park ๐Ÿž after work these days.

My boots ๐Ÿ‘ข are in rough shape so I need to order tomorrow replacements. Probably just the same type I have and get them online to ensure they have my size without having to make a special trip to the store ๐Ÿฌ to buy them.

Dead End Gorge Trail Stablized

October 3, 2020 Night

Good evening! Clear and 47 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. ๐ŸŒ• Still close to the full moon and lots of moonlight out there tonight. Nice evening for a walk under the moonlight but I decided to come inside and take out my contacts ๐Ÿ‘€ as my eyes were itching and retire to bed ๐Ÿ›.

While today was kind of a stay home day, ๐Ÿก I did walk out to Five Rivers this afternoon for a while and it was nice after the crowds thinned out. ๐Ÿธ Lots of Blue Jays ๐Ÿฆ around and some does ๐ŸฆŒ and a bit of color – you saw the pictures ๐Ÿ–ผ I posted earlier but if not, scroll ๐Ÿ“œ down.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 5am. Patchy frost after 5am. Otherwise, mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 37 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 23rd. Light and variable wind. Yeah, I should close the windows but I’ll burrow under the covers and it’s not like it’s cold enough to freeze the pipes. โ„ I like the fresh air. In 2019, we had light rain in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 41 degrees. The record low of 26 occurred back in 1948.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 95% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the east (100ยฐ) at an altitude of 25ยฐ from the horizon, some 252,136 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by April 13th. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 59 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 1891. 6.5 inches of snow fell back in 1987.โ„

Tomorrow I want to get up fairly early and go for a hike at Partridge Run. ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป I think I have a nice autumn hike planned and I’ll bring my camera ๐Ÿ“ธ for more nice autumn pictures. ๐Ÿ‚ Then it’s out to the folks house for Sunday dinner. ๐ŸฒI didn’t get to see them last week as I was tardy getting back from the Adirondacks as I ended up hiking farther than I had originally planned in the West Canada Lakes Wilderness. ๐Ÿ Next weekend I’m thinking ๐Ÿ’ญ about hiking one day at Beebe Hill and Harvey Mountain.

Ran out of space for more podcasts on my phone ๐ŸŽง so I couldn’t download any more so I deleted the old ones I had on my phone and resync so I have more to listen to ๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿป over the next few days. I’ll get even more when I go to the library on Monday for my Zoom Meeting. โฌ‡๏ธ I also need to upgrade my laptop to the latest version of stable Ubuntu as 18.04 is finally reaching its end of life. ๐Ÿž I only run the stable version of Ubuntu and I usually wait for a few minor bug patches to come out before upgrading the distribution.

I was annoyed that they left a phone book ๐Ÿ“™ on my door step now that they’ve ended free paper recycling โ™ป. I’ll shred the book and I might end up burning it ๐Ÿ”ฅ but it’s still obnoxious. I think I might just have to plan more frequent trips to the transfer station. ๐Ÿ›ข I can’t wait until I eventually move out to the country.

In four weeks on October 31 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (251ยฐ) at 5:49 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 43 minutes and 40 seconds earlier then tonight. Between The Hills

October 2, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear under the Harvest Moon and 48 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒ• Calm wind. A bit cool sitting out back but the moonlight is nice and it won’t be long before the evenings are too cold to sit out back.

It’s been a busy and crazy week ๐Ÿคช with so many changes to the world and work that seems non stop, sometimes going into the wee hours of the morning. ๐Ÿ’ค Between retiring to bed early last night ๐Ÿ› and sleeping in on the dark rainy morning I did get well caught up on my sleep.

The whole thing about the president getting Coronavirus ๐Ÿ‘พ is both totally crazy and predictable. ๐Ÿ˜ท Nobody likes wearing a mask or having to social distance but it seems that it makes a big difference. Virus math is tough to beat. That said with the president’s advanced age and less than physically fit body ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป I can’t imagine he will survive it without serious health consequences.

I already really like my new blog theme ๐Ÿ“ which is probably one of the most minimalist themes I’ve ever used but I think it does a really nice job of displaying my photos ๐Ÿ“ธ and sharing my world. ๐Ÿ‘ค I like telling my story and then from time to time flipping on back. Fixed a few things in the mobile ๐Ÿ“ฑ version but there is still more to fix.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 3am. Otherwise, partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 41 degrees at 6am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 10th. Light northwest wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 46 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1945.

Going to be another cool night but I like the fresh air ๐Ÿƒ so I think I’ll leave the windows open and snuggle under the cover. ๐Ÿ› Going to be sixty tomorrow and with the sun will be plenty warm.

Tonight will have a Full ๐ŸŒ Moon with 98% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the east-southeast (111ยฐ) at an altitude of 28ยฐ from the horizon, some 252,227 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by April 12th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The New Moon is on Sunday, October 18. The darkest hour is at 12:45 am, followed by dawn at 6:27 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:55 am in the east (94ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 54 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 6 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:32 am with sun in the east (101ยฐ). Tonight will have 12 hours and 20 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 60 degrees at 2pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 15th. Maximum dew point of 47 at 10am. Light and variable wind. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 52 degrees. The record high of 83 was set in 1967. There was a dusting of snow in 1974.โ„

I need to get contact solution and butter ๐Ÿช so I probably need to go to the grocery store tomorrow. I might just also walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป out to Five Rivers ๐Ÿฆ and do some bird watching. Plus I want to trim my hair ๐Ÿ’ˆ with the cutting tools I have and take a shower ๐Ÿšฟ – the last time I bathed was Tuesday because I’ve been remote working and I don’t need to be really clean for Zoom although I have been shaving and washing my face.

I want to get out camping ๐Ÿ• and traveling again soon but it’s tough being so busy with work these days. I’m hoping to do one trip out to Madison County on a few weeks – although probably not Columbus Day Weekend โ›ต as I want to avoid the crowds. ๐Ÿ‘ช

In four weeks on October 30 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (251ยฐ) at 5:50 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 44 minutes and 5 seconds earlier then tonight. Apples

October 1, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 58 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒ• Calm wind. Sitting out back, although a few clouds are pushing in. Nice evening not super cold. Bright out with the Harvest Moon ๐ŸŽ‘ but already the clouds are pushing in. ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ

First day of October ๐ŸŽƒ came and went quickly. Busy but rather uneventful and it was nice enough I could sit outside and work for a while. ๐Ÿ’ป Remote work has its benefits when the weather is nice for sure. I was looking at the back of my truck thinking it would be nice to get out camping soon โ›บ but not this weekend, I have too much going on and I don’t think it will be that nice of a weekend.

Finally got shopping ๐Ÿ›’ this evening but I came close to getting into a crash on my way home. ๐Ÿ’ฅ Never saw the car coming ๐Ÿš˜ until both of us slammed on our brakes. It was a busy day and I hadn’t had dinner yet and I was tired ๐Ÿ˜ด and distracted. Such a busy day and my mind was wandering. I shouldn’t have been driving. ๐Ÿก I am glad when I work downtown there is the bus ๐Ÿš to take me home.

It’s been such a busy past few days at work. ๐Ÿ’ผ It doesn’t help that I’ve gotten into the naughty habit of staying up much too late so I’m not preforming my best and I’ve struggling to keep my eyes open ๐Ÿ‘€ between the emails. ๐Ÿ“ง My phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ first rang at 9:01 am and kept ringing except for a few minutes when my phone pinging from email. ๐Ÿ”ข. Some of the stuff today was painfully difficult number crunching too. Tonight I’m in bed ๐Ÿ› and will be sleeping by 11 tonight. I’ve been making the excuse that I can sleep in the mornings as I don’t have a bus ๐Ÿš to catch but that’s a lousey excuse because I still wake up early with the sun. ๐ŸŒ…

I went for my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป and that was non eventful except for a car I walked past that was pulled over with a headlight out. ๐Ÿ‘ฎ๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ I wonder how many police officers will be without a job come Election Day. ๐Ÿšจ While politicians can’t fire civil servants that endorse their opponents I think it’s obnoxious that so many of the units are going so strongly for Trump and the fear of crime thing. ๐Ÿ˜จ It’s stupid messaging when crime is so low and local government budgets are so tight. ๐Ÿ’ต

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly after 4am. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 48 degrees at 4am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 25th. Light northwest wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It was humid. It got down to 49 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1972.

Tonight is the Harvest Full ๐ŸŒ Moon. At 10 PM, the moon was in the east-southeast (123ยฐ) at an altitude of 31ยฐ from the horizon, some 251,648 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by April 10th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Hunter ๐Ÿน Moon is on Saturday, October 17. The darkest hour is at 12:46 am, followed by dawn at 6:26 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:54 am in the east (94ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 54 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:31 am with sun in the east (100ยฐ). Tonight will have 12 hours and 18 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers likely, mainly before noon. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 60 degrees at 2pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 15th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 11am. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. It became humid as the day progressed. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 85 was set in 1927. There was a dusting of snow in 1899.โ„

I have a Zoom Meeting tomorrow so I’ll probably work from the library. ๐Ÿ“™ It’s pleasant now that the weather is cooler. I also have an updated theme and look and feel for the blog that I will make live tomorrow. I’ve been testing it for a week now. ๐Ÿ’ฃ It’s mostly just CSS style sheet changes but I think you’ll like it.

Think I heard the first mouse in my apartment this year. ๐Ÿ Nights are getting cold. With the mice as bad as they are in the woods maybe I should try a drowning bucket trap this year to see how many I can catch. Or get a cat. ๐Ÿ™€ My last neighbor had a cat, never had any mice then. I don’t like pets but when I have a hobby farm I could see having a cat to control rodents in the barnyard ๐Ÿ but I do worry about the impact on the birds ๐Ÿฆ.

The record high of 77 degrees was set back in 1946.

And only 13 weeks until we say goodbye to 2020. It’s been a fun year, as John Lindsey would say.

Looking ahead, Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 2 weeks, November ๐Ÿฅง is a month away, Thanksgiving ๐Ÿฆƒ is in 8 weeks, December ๐ŸŽ„ is in 2 months, 7:15 AM Sunrise โŒ›๏ธ is in 10 weeks, Christmas Eve ๐ŸŽ… is in 12 weeks, New Years Eve ๐ŸŽ† is in 13 weeks, New Years Day 2020 ๐ŸŽ‰ is in 3 months, Coldest Week of the Year ๐ŸŒฌ is in 15 weeks, Wolf Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 17 weeks, February ๐ŸŒง is in 4 months, Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day ๐Ÿฅ› is in 19 weeks and National Drink Wine Day ๐Ÿท is in 20 weeks.

Scenic Driving Last Friday

October 1, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy October ๐ŸŽƒ and Harvest Moon ๐ŸŒ•! Two weeks to Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚. Partly cloudy and 53 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a south breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 49 degrees.

Well Happy October. ๐ŸŽƒ How fast the seasons change. ๐Ÿ‚With the colder nights lately the leaves are changing fast, earlier than many years. I bet with the rain and wind ๐Ÿƒ soon they’ll be pretty much gone from the higher elevations of the Adirondacks.

I stayed up much too late and I’m paying for it this morning. ๐Ÿ’ค I tried to sleep in without much luck but I skipped my morning walk. ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป Pancakes ๐Ÿฅž for breakfast this morning. And lots of coffee โ˜•. I had enough milk but I’ll need to get more later on.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 69 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 24th. Maximum dew point of 52 at 10am. South wind around 7 mph becoming west in the afternoon. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. It became humid as the day progressed. The high last year was 78 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1927. There was a dusting of snow in 1946.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:46 pm with sun having an altitude of 44ยฐ from the due south horizon (-26.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:00 pm with the sun in the west (260ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (266ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:38 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:04 pm, which is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the east (92ยฐ) at an altitude of 1ยฐ from the horizon, 251,534 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:38 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 66 degrees. The dew point will be 48 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 43 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of rain, mainly after 4am. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 48 degrees at 6am.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 60. West wind 3 to 7 mph. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 61. Maximum dew point of 42 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 65 degrees.

It is so tempting to get out of town this weekend ๐Ÿ• but I don’t think so as I just got back from the Adirondacks and I have too much work to do this weekend. Good for hiking though.

As promised no more paper recycling dumpsters at the park and ride. ๐Ÿ“„ โ™ป That’s disappointing because it seems like I always have so much paper trash that now I’ll have to take to the transfer station. Maybe I can roll ๐Ÿฅ it up into logs and burn in campfires to supplement purchased or gathered wood ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณ although my experience is that paper – especially those glossy circulars that they flood your mail box with ๐Ÿ“ฌ have loads of clay and don’t burn well. ๐Ÿ—ž๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 6:12 pm with dusk at 6:41 pm. On that day in 2019, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 62 and 39 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 1897.
