Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. Next Wednesday is Average High is 55 πŸ‚. Mostly cloudy and 55 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 54 degrees. The skies will clear around 11 am.

Should be a really nice day but with the dark and gray morning before the time change, 🌫️ I woke up so groggy and struggled to get going. 😴 I don’t think I’m sick but I’m just kind of worn out about the go go go work schedule, although at least I’m still working remotely. No Zoom Meetings today so I’ll work at home using my phone or laptop. πŸ€“That said, if it’s really nice out, I might bring my personal laptop down to the library to work and play a bit. πŸ’»

Pancakes πŸ₯ž for breakfast today but it was kind of a working breakfast πŸ–₯οΈβ˜• having my coffee while replying to work emails πŸ“§. But it was totally my fault for staying in bed much too late πŸ› before getting started on my day. It’s going to tonight when I’m working at work every day.

Today will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 74 degrees at 3pm. 16 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 12th. Maximum dew point of 61 at 12pm. The record high of 81 was set in 1979. 0.2 inches of snow fell back in 1926.❄

Tonight is the virtual Pine Bush Dinner πŸ¦‹ but the lasagna is never the same and I’m not a big fan of listening πŸ‘‚πŸ» to the program over the phone πŸ“±. I guess I could get internet πŸ’» at home but so be it. I don’t mind driving 🚘 down to the library and many days I can just work using my phone if things aren’t too data intensive. πŸ“Ά And when the weather is nice, camp β›Ί and travel.

I am thinking maybe I should take a long weekend out of town πŸ€” maybe leaving Thursday morning based on the forecast but I don’t know. I feel like I just was camping. Where to go next? Truth be told if I do head out of town I’ll probably spend more time fielding calls and doing work then having fun out in the woods although I had a good week last weekend.

Not a half bad evening πŸŒƒ, went for my evening walk 🚢🏻 and it wasn’t bad despite the mist and fog. 🌫 Worked fairly late in the office 🏒 but I was home early enough for my walk. I really don’t mind working downtown although for a few seconds I thought I might have missed the 7:30 pm bus 🚍 home but it worked out fine.

So oddly quiet downtown at 7:30 catching the bus home. 🚏 Albany has long been a a 9-5 city but with the bars still all shut and the hotels shuttered 🏩 everything is so dead downtown but I guess the same can be said mid day too. There is a lot of talk about reopening state offices soon 🏒 but I just don’t see it happening with the pandemic ramping back up. I’m sure you saw that article I shared earlier about Coronavirus being widespread in Connecticut and New Jersey now – its getting bad in parts of Southern Tier New York again too.

Upgraded my laptop to Ubuntu 20.04, which is necessary as they are no longer supporting 18.04. πŸ’» The long term support versions of Ubuntu are good for 2 1/2 years of updates but eventually you need to update to the new version πŸ“‚. Unfortunately I’m having problems with getting the sound working but I’ll figure that out tomorrow.

I am super annoyed I chose last weekend to head out of town β›Ί because Thursday through Sunday looks really nice. To be fair, how could I have predicted that? Mild evening, I went for my evening walk 🚢🏻 and it was rain free and quite nice. After feeling a bit congested this afternoon πŸ‘ƒπŸ» it was nice to get out and get some fresh air.

Spent some time studying historical maps and geocoding them this evening. πŸ—Ί You can learn a lot by studying old maps and comparing them to modern maps. The topic really fascinates me.

October 19, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Six weeks to Cyber Monday πŸ›οΈ and Beaver Moon πŸŒ•. Buy more plastic shit that makes lots of black smoke when you burn it. πŸ”₯ Very cloudy and gray but a mild 54 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁️ Maybe rain β˜” soon? I should look There is a south breeze at 6 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 50 degrees. The skies will clear around 11 am.

Being so dark and cloudy this morning 🌫️ I feel foggy myself, 🀯 but maybe it’s just a bad case of the Mondays. I have two online meetings today πŸ“Ή that I’ll do down at the library, making sure my laptops are charging πŸ”‹ now as I doubt πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ there will be much solar power. Not sure if we are going to get rain in Delmar, but who knows. It’s probably better to be home then in woods.

The record high of 79 was set in 1963. There was a dusting of snow in 1992.❄

Looks like CentralΒ New York is pretty wet this morning, 🌧 so I guess it’s good to be back home. It would be bad driving home in the rain after work, and working from some random library in Central NY when it was pouring rain all day.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:41 pm with sun having an altitude of 37.2Β° from the due south horizon (-33.6Β° vs. 6/21). I am starting to think πŸ€” I took the wrong weekend to go to Central New York but I don’t know. It was a good weekend to go out and enjoy the colors while they are still left πŸ‚, they are rapidly fading now as we head closer to November. I don’t have any plans now until mid November and with more days being back in the office 🏒 and less remote work πŸ’», it gets harder to take long weekends – plus I’m running low on vacation time. ⏳

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 52 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a south-southeast breeze at 9 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 42 degrees. The skies will clear Wednesday around 1 pm.

I am back home 🏑 as it’s going to rain tomorrow in Central NY and quite honestly I don’t want to drive home at 5 or 6 pm tomorrow in the dark especially in rain. Plus working all day under a tarp or in the truck doesn’t seem like much fun.

To be sure, it was a beautiful weekend πŸ‚ even if clouds pushed in early on Sunday. No rain β˜” but it was cold on Cherry Ridge πŸ’ Camping Area πŸ• and I didn’t have the whole area so I couldn’t listen to Jason Aldean as loud as I wanted 🎢 while getting drunk 🍻 next to roaring fire πŸ”₯. But the fire was big enough for a while that I was plenty to warm next to it.

I am cleaning out the cooler now ❇️ and I’ll get things ready to put back in the crawl space by morning. Then things will be packed up. With the late sunrise πŸŒ… and my busy schedule I’m not planning any further trips β›Ί until November. This year I doubt I’ll have enough time to take a full week off of work though in November as I often do.

 Schoharie Creek

October 18, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Two weeks to November πŸ₯§. Partly sunny and 38 degrees at the Cherry Ridge Camping Area. There is a south breeze at 11 mph. πŸƒ. It’s already warmed up a lot from earlier when it was below freezing when I first woke up. But November is only two weeks away.

It’s a beautiful morning β˜€ but cold with the breeze. I’m going to take down camp β›Ί shortly and go for a walk. Still chewing over my plans for the day. πŸ’

Today will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 57 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 22nd. South wind 11 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 52 degrees. The record high of 84 was set in 2016. There was a dusting of snow in 2015.❄

I am a bit undecided about today. 🐸 I am thinking about going down to Sherburne later and maybe staying up here one more night, leaving early Monday morning and heading home before the rain β˜” and work πŸ’». I guess it depends on how cloudy β›… and cool it becomes today. I might first go for a walk in the state forest. It really depends on how cold and cloudy is later. πŸ› Plus I don’t want to be shit tired πŸ’© come Monday at work as there is much to do. Sherburne and the Rogers Environmental Education Center is always nice.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:47 pm with sun having an altitude of 37.4Β° from the due south horizon (-33.2Β° vs. 6/21). At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies πŸŒƒ and temperatures around 53 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 54 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy πŸŒ₯, with a low of 45 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 2nd. South wind 13 to 15 mph. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 36 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1974.

I am a bit concerned it might be a very cold night ❄ with the wind if I stay one more night. Plus then it’s going to be a long trip back if a leave at quarter to seven in the morning – before sunrise πŸŒ…. I might be a lot better off to stay until four pm this afternoon and drive home in daylight, maximize what I can before it gets dark out. That way I’ll get a good night’s sleep and be prepared for tomorrow.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until November πŸ₯§ when the sun will be setting at 4:53 pm with dusk at 5:22 pm (Standard Time).
