February 20, 2023 Night

Good evening! Partly clear ๐ŸŒƒ and 40 degrees for the evening walk ๐Ÿšถ here in Delmar. There is a northwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 11 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Memories of Madison County โ›บ and wishing I was still there, but alas I’m back home. If you believed last week’s forecast for tonight, heck even the forecast of this morning it would be rainy and cold tonight and tomorrow and I would have driven home in the rain even today, taking camp down in the rain. But none of that proved to be true.

It was a nice weekend ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ hiked 30 miles in the state forest over three days though it was a fraction of the 130 mile trail system but between the two weekends spent there I feel like I’ve seen a lot of state forest. I’ll have to make a map ๐Ÿ—บ of all the trails I explored.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 27 degrees at 2am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 18th. North wind 3 to 7 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 13 degrees. The record low of -10 occurred back in 2015. Not this year though a few weeks back we had that negative 13 day.

Went out and saw the folks ๐Ÿ‘ช and then washed all the traction sand mud off my truck got fruits and vegetables and a few other supplies including a cast iron frying pan ๐Ÿณ, razors and also lighter fluid for the next time I camp in case the wood is wet. After a fun weekend back to eating healthy again though even on my fun weekend I included extra fruits and vegetables.

Tonight will have a New ๐ŸŒš Moon with 1% illuminated. The Worm ๐Ÿ› Moon is on Tuesday, March 7. The darkest hour is at 12:10 am, followed by dawn at 6:18 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:47 am in the east-southeast (104ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes Sunrise is one minute and 29 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:26 am with sun in the east-southeast (111ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 7 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of rain and snow showers before 2pm, then rain showers. ๐ŸŒง High of 39 degrees at 5pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 28th. Light and variable wind becoming south 8 to 13 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 30 degrees. The record high of 73 was set in 2018. 11.0 inches of snow fell back in 1929.โ„

Back to work tomorrow ๐Ÿข after the long weekend. There is a lot going on in the office this week despite not being a session week so it’s best to be back in the office as remote work is but a memory. Would be tough to work remote with the clouds and rain and the limited solar power for the truck at any rate. Better to save vacation time for the summer โ˜€ and nicer weather.

In four weeks on March 20 the sun will be setting in the west (271ยฐ) at 7:08 pm (Daylight Savings Time),๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 33 minutes and 53 seconds later then tonight. In 2021 on that day, we had sunny and temperatures between 55 and 20 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 47 and 27 degrees. The record high of 78 degrees was set back in 2012.

Looking ahead, tommorow is , 8 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† is in 7 weeks, May ๐Ÿ•Š is in 10 weeks, 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 15 weeks, Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 17 weeks, Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 4 months, Ugly Truck Day ๐Ÿšš is in 5 months, World Mosquito Day ๐Ÿž is in 26 weeks, Labor Day ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 28 weeks, September 11th ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 29 weeks, 7 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 30 weeks, Average Night Below Freezing ๐ŸŒŒ is in 38 weeks, Cyber Monday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ is in 40 weeks, First Sunday of Advent โœ๏ธ is in 41 weeks, Bake Cookies Day ๐Ÿช is in 43 weeks and Christmas ๐ŸŽ… is in 44 weeks.

Crack

February 20, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Cloudy and 36 degrees at the Moscow Hill Camping Area. ๐ŸŒฅ There is a south-southwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 5 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

The past few days I’ve decided to take a break from social media and the blog ๐Ÿ“œ so I can spend more time in the woods hiking and thinking, ๐Ÿ‘‚ listening to podcasts and drinking ๐Ÿป beer and being away from it all. Two nights is never enough, especially since I got used to remote work from camp. I could have taken tomorrow off but rain is coming.

I was on the fence about where to this long weekend โ›บ but settled on Brookfield as there was more trails I wanted to explore and the forecast while cloudy for Sunday and today looked less wet. I had been at Rennselearville State Forest three weekends ago and wanted to mix things up especially so I didn’t burn up too much firewood. Plus I like the rural landscape ๐Ÿšœ heading out to Brookfield. Longer drive though but a pleasant one.

Saturday I walked around Glimmerglass State Park ๐Ÿž and it was cold by the lake but in the woods with the wind ๐Ÿƒ blocked by the mountains it wasn’t so bad. I didn’t stick around very long as such. Deep blue skies and a pretty sunset ๐ŸŒ‡. Got to Moscow Hill Horse Camp ๐Ÿด and set up camp then hiked over to Elmer’s Place and then bushwhacked over Grassy Hill trying to find a good view which didn’t exist but I did flush out a ton of grouse. ๐Ÿ•Š

By the time I got back to camp it was 6:10 and nearly pitch black but I had previously gathered firewood, set up the lights and propane, ๐Ÿฎ had everything ready to go so it was a pleasant night. Had a big fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ though it was smokey at times due to all the wet wood, wet stuff in the burnables as I’ve been eating healthier. Heard a local fire station whistle go of ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿš’ and thought I might have some unplanned visitors but no it was some other call. This place isn’t as remote as some places I camp. โ›บ Forgot to buy lighter fluid but once I got the somewhat damp and frozen wood going it burned well but was sparky until the wind died out. Saturday was a star filled night โœจ and very mild which was nice.

Sunday was cloudy and breezy at times ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ especially up on the hills. I hiked the bulk of the day, visiting most of the outer truck trails at Charles Baker State Forest ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณ๐ŸŒฒ as I didn’t want to hike muddy horse trails. Checked out the Elmer Spring Campsite which is remote but accessible by vehicle and is really nice and private. โ›บ Hiked the Ledges Trail which was kind of interesting as was Truck Trail 7 which is cut into a ledge on the side of the mountain โ›ฐ๏ธ. Icy in spots especially on the road but cold enough even the horse ๐Ÿด trails weren’t too icy.

For today, Washington’s Birthday will have showers likely, mainly before 11am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 40 degrees at 11am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 28th. Not bad for the high country in in. Just wearing the vest. Southwest wind 9 to 13 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 28 degrees. The record high of 66 was set in 1930. 11.2 inches of snow fell back in 1977.โ„

While it hasn’t been sunny โ˜๏ธ the mid weather has been nice. Not having to deal with frozen water ๐Ÿ’ฆ, frozen food like milk ๐Ÿฅ› or eggs ๐Ÿฅš is good for a change. The batteries are healthy and happy ๐Ÿ˜Š in my truck ๐Ÿ”‹, I haven’t had to start the truck all weekend long. Used the propane heater โ™จ a lot less than I have in recent trips, no icy propane lines to deal with. But it’s been cold enough that things have remained generally frozen in the ground, keeping the trails from being too muddy.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:16 pm with sun having an altitude of 36.2ยฐ from the due south horizon (-34.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 8.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:01 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (249ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (256ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:40 pm after setting for 3 minutes with dusk around 6:07 pm, which is one minute and 17 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-southwest (253ยฐ) at an altitude of 2ยฐ from the horizon, 228,419 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:41 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 34 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 50 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over yesterday.

Today I decided to hike back and explore a few more ponds ๐Ÿธ in the northern part of the state forest. Then midday head back home. I figure enjoy and explore as much of the land while I’m here. Then I’ll have to head home. I thought about taking Tuesday off but it looks like rain โ˜” and maybe snow here.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers after 4am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 23 degrees at 2am. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 5th. Maximum wind chill around 17 at 4am; Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 13 degrees. The record low of -10 occurred back in 2015.

Planning to go out and see the folks ๐Ÿ‘ช when I get home, that is after showering ๐Ÿšฟ and unpacking. Then I want to run to the car wash ๐Ÿš™ and then Walmart for fruit and vegetables for the upcoming week. ๐Ÿ

Brookfield looks cold and snowy for next weekend. ๐ŸŒจ But I got my fun in. Saturday, a chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 25. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Sunday, a chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 34. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 39 degrees.

I don’t necessarily plan on being back to Brookfield anytime soon though I might do my April trip to Cazenovia rather than the Adirondacks East Branch Sacandaga River for a change. ๐Ÿ—ป Easter is late this year and depending on how mild the spring is things could be greening up by then. Probably few black flies up north ๐Ÿœ but I’ve been itching to do the Gorge Rail Trail is Cazenovia – Canestota for some time again. March maybe a camping trip โ›บ to Rennselearville State Forest again or Burnt Rossman. Depends on how much snow. It will be after the time change at this point.

Looking ahead, there are 7 weeks until 8 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 7:39 pm with dusk at 8:06 pm (Daylight Savings Time) in Brookfield. Earlier back in Albany. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy, warm and temperatures between 74 and 49 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 57 degrees. Thinking spring thoughts ๐Ÿ’ญ on this cloudy but mild morning. We hit a record high of 86 back in 1922.

Red Trail Marker

January 25, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Already Wednesday or maybe the week is going too slow. Farmers Market Day, maybe I will get some apples ๐Ÿ to have in my office.

Mostly cloudy and 27 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. There are 7 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ Just remember that number come tomorrow. ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 10 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Nice morning before the snow storm ๐ŸŒจ though kind of gray. But the mornings aren’t as dark as they were only a few weeks ago, and to boot I was out walking before 6:45. The skies to the southeast are very firery red. ๐ŸŒ…

Been trying to get out earlier for my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ which the lighter breakfasts and less procrastination help a lot at that. I may also push back my first alarm โฐ to 5:45 am so I have more time to fool around before getting out of bed ๐Ÿ›.

Today will snow. The snow could be heavy at times. ๐ŸŒจ High of 33 degrees at 11am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 4th. Light south wind becoming southeast 8 to 13 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 29 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 1938. 9.5 inches of snow fell back in 2000.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:08 pm with sun having an altitude of 28.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-42.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:17 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (237ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (245ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:59 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 13 seconds with dusk around 5:29 pm, which is one minute and 17 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the southwest (215ยฐ) at an altitude of 38ยฐ from the horizon, 231,506 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:04 pm. At sunset, look for snow ๐ŸŒจ and temperatures around 32 degrees. There will be a southeast breeze at 14 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 48 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 8 seconds over today.

Cynthia Pooler of Focus on Albany fame ๐ŸŽค was going to have a fundraiser and recording sessio for her documentary on Reszin Adams but with the snow storm coming and the fact it’s all the way out in Colonie and no where near a bus stop ๐Ÿšmakes me think that it’s best to mail โœ‰ a check. If it had been in Albany I probably would have gone even if it was snowy, but I’m not driving in this crap or walking in a blizzard and suit and tie in the automobile ghetto.

Tonight will rain and snow before midnight, then a chance of rain between midnight and 1am, then a slight chance of rain showers after 1am. ๐ŸŒง Low of 32 degrees at 6pm. 16 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 30th. Southeast wind 12 to 17 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 15 degrees. The record low of -17 occurred back in 1920.

I am not really sure what to expect about the snow storm. โ˜” It’s probably going to be an elevation storm but lately a lot of people are saying more snow. I still am considering camping for my 40th birthday ๐ŸŽ‚ but Friday looks cold and there might be a ton of heavy wet snow to shovel out a parking ๐Ÿ…ฟ spot.

NOAA is still saying more clouds for the weekend. โ˜๏ธ But mild so the snow won’t stick around in any quantity. Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 40. Sunday, a chance of rain and snow after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 38. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 33 degrees.

As previously noted, next Wednesday is February ๐ŸŒง when the sun will be setting at 5:09 pm with dusk at 5:38 pm. On that day in 2022, we had snow and temperatures between 25 and 10 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 65 back in 1989.

 Westerlo 03

January 23, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Snow and 32 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ„ There is a north breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 3 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 9 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Out for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ, the snow is quite wet and sloppy. Sticking to my boots it’s would seem. Sidewalks are plowed which helps. But it’s still pretty wet and slushy. There was a either a telephone or cable line that came down on Elm Avenue this morning, there was already a police officer directing traffic around it, ๐Ÿšจ but I stayed well away from it, just because you never know how much voltage it could have. If it’s a telephone wire, it could be as much as 90 volts when ringing, and I don’t know how much voltage is used for cable lines, or if they are all fiber optic at this point. I don’t own a TV or have internet at home, so I don’t know what’s up and down. Kind of sucks for people though who plan to work from home.

Today will snow before 2pm, then rain and snow likely. ๐ŸŒง High of 35 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 14th. Northwest wind 9 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 24 degrees. The record high of 64 was set in 1906. 10.6 inches of snow fell back in 1963.โ„

Maybe it was mistake to leave my umbrella home. โ˜‚ I did plan on bringing it but I was already on my way down to the bus stop ๐Ÿš when I realized I didn’t pack it with my lunch. Not a big deal, but I am hoping the snow doesn’t turn to rain and it’s wet by evening. That said, it seems like it will be clearing as the day progresses. Another mild night ahead, which is good, because you know how much I love to pay for heat.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:08 pm with sun having an altitude of 27.9° from the due south horizon (-42.9° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:14 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (237°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (244°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:57 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 14 seconds with dusk around 5:27 pm, which is one minute and 16 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the southwest (230°) at an altitude of 16° from the horizon, 227,713 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:02 pm. At sunset, look for a chance of rain, ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 35 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 11 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 44 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 3 seconds over today.

I’ve decided to continue on my journey through more-mindful eating, ๐Ÿฝ which means eating only when I’m hungry and not stuffing my face when I’m already full. Walking is great, but it doesn’t necessary translate to lost weight, nor does it save money. If I try to be more careful on how much I eat, then I can stretch food further, ๐ŸŽ put more away in the freezer to eat a later date. Might not add up to a lot ๐Ÿ’ฐ but with inflation, you really have to stretch every dollar as far as it can go. Plus less food consumed means less food packaging to burn or take to the transfer station, which is better for the environment. ๐ŸŒŽ Kind of a win-win for a better tomorrow. Little things, done over a decade, can really add up. Worse thing is that it seems like the veggies and fruit get eaten up before I’m ready to shop, but I can buy more.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 27 degrees at 11pm. 12 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 18th. Maximum wind chill around 20 at 10pm; Northwest wind 8 to 14 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 6 degrees. The record low of -17 occurred back in 1948.

Maybe my fears of having to walk home in the rain with an umbrella are overblown. ๐ŸŒง That’s good, as it should be good for walking tonight, assuming the sidewalks aren’t too icy. I don’t know how late I’ll get home tonight, but I don’t think it will be super late.

Another mild and cloudy weekend ahead. โ˜๏ธ Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 34. Typical average high for the weekend is 33 degrees. I would like to get out of town this weekend for Friday into the weekend, but I want to give it one more day to decide what my plans are for sure, as if looks cloudy I might hold off. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ But it would be fun for my 40th birthday.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until Save the Pine Bush Turns 43 ๐Ÿฆ‹ when the sun will be setting at 5:16 pm with dusk at 5:44 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 36 and 12 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 34 degrees. We hit a record high of 55 back in 1991.

Frozen Lake

January 20, 2023 Morning

Good morning on this rather sloppy Friday here in Delmar! ๐ŸŒง๏ธ Not a lot of snow or ice locally but a ton of slush. 33 degrees and rain.

Out for the morning walk and it’s pretty wet. โ˜” But it’s not pouring out and my boots ๐Ÿ‘ข are waterproof. Not at all icy locally. Sloppy though.

Looking at a high of 40 degrees around 2 pm with the rain tapering off as the day progresses. Some sleet and snow ๐ŸŒจ could mix in throughout the day but if anything it will just make more slop rather than freeze up with well a salted areas just wet.

I tell you, I am sure glad I’ve been wearing my muzzle. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍โš•๏ธEverybody lately has been getting sick around this place, but so far I’ve been good. I also try to be better at hand washing ๐Ÿ‘ and avoiding too many crowded places. Getting sick certainly doesn’t seem fun, especially how healthy I’ve been since the start of the pandemic. I don’t get why people don’t want to get vaccinated or stay healthy.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:07 pm with sun having an altitude of 27.2° from the due south horizon (-43.6° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:10 pm with the sun in the southwest (236°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (243°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:53 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 16 seconds with dusk around 5:23 pm, which is one minute and 14 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:59 pm. At sunset, look for skies and temperatures around degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 9 hours and 36 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 52 seconds over yesterday.

I wanted to take the express bus in this morning, ๐ŸšŒ but that was not to be due to me leaving my laptop at home. So I had to turn around and get my laptop and there wasn’t time to catch anything but the local to work. ๐Ÿš It got me there regardless. Not an electric bus this week. ๐Ÿ”Œ Probably for the best, it wouldn’t have been a pleasant walk down to the express bus today. Haven’t used the express bus much this week, because of the weather and session days.

Things will clear out ๐ŸŒƒ as the night progresses, and freeze will occur around six pm, which could really ice up the sidewalks and untreated surfaces. Looking at a low of 28 degrees by 5 AM, prior to daybreak then warming up to the mid-30s by Saturday with clearing skies.

Tomorrow I’m thinking of walking out to Five Rivers ๐Ÿธ probably in the afternoon but it depends on the weather. The trails might be sloppy after all of the rain and slush, though I could just walk out there to watch the birds ๐Ÿฆ and get my steps in via Mead’s Lane. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ Always a nice winter walk out that way.

Looking ahead, there are 3 weeks until Clean Your Computer Day ๐Ÿงน when the sun will be setting at 5:21 pm with dusk at 5:49 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 25 and 12 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 35 degrees. We hit a record high of 53 back in 1955.

 Conclusion

January 19, 2023 Night

Good evening! Rain showers and 33 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ There is a southeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Going to warm up as the night progresses.

The best way to describe the weather this evening is sloppy ๐ŸŒง๏ธ with a lot of slush around. Just wet not icy locally and it’s only going to warm up as the night progresses. Wasn’t raining hard, so I went for my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ in my waterproof boots. ๐Ÿ‘ข

It was a pretty ordinary day, ๐Ÿข fairly busy as expected and sloppy in the evening but I did my walk. I don’t have much to complain about. Tomorrow is Friday. ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

Tonight will rain and snow before 4am, then a slight chance of snow between 4am and 5am, then a chance of rain and snow after 5am. ๐ŸŒง Low of 33 degrees at 8pm. 18 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 5th. Saves on the heat. Southeast wind 5 to 7 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 14 degrees. The record low of -22 occurred back in 1970.

I think tomorrow will be wet and sloppy โ˜” though things could freeze up but I have my doubts. I’ll try to do my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ in the morning. I’m not convinced that there will be a lot of snow come the weekend locally. I’m more concerned about Sunday and visiting the folks but maybe it will be okay earlier in the day.

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent ๐ŸŒ˜ Moon with 4% illuminated. The Snow โ„ Moon is on Saturday, February 4. The darkest hour is at 12:07 am, followed by dawn at 6:50 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:21 am in the east-southeast (118ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 16 seconds. Sunrise is 36 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 8:05 am with sun in the southeast (125ยฐ). Tonight will have 14 hours and 24 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 51 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will rain and snow showers before 2pm, then a slight chance of rain showers between 2pm and 3pm, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers after 3pm. ๐ŸŒง High of 39 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 25th. South wind 5 to 11 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 30 degrees. The record high of 53 was set in 2006. 10.4 inches of snow fell back in 2019.โ„

Frozen Lake

January 19, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Fiery red skies to the east and 32 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒ… Calm wind. The skies will clear Monday around 4 pm.

One more morning to the weekend. โ˜บ Just out doing my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ watching the sun rise and getting ready for what is likely to be another busy day at work, especially come the afternoon and the Wednesday memos start hitting my desk. ๐Ÿ“„ Fortunately, with some code I’ve at least partially automated the process.

Today will rain and snow, possibly mixed with sleet before 3pm, then rain, snow, and freezing rain between 3pm and 5pm, then rain and snow after 5pm. ๐ŸŒจ High of 34 degrees at 10am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 9th. Light and variable wind becoming east around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch possible. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 35 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1929. 8.5 inches of snow fell back in 1886.โ„

Going to need the lamp on my desk on this morning. ๐Ÿ›‹ It’s another dark and dreary day. I will try to get in 8,000 steps this morning so I can easily hit 10,000 by lunch time walk. That way if the weather is bad this evening, I will have my steps in. I don’t mind walking in the snow — that can be nice but I think it might be rain or it could be ice. ๐ŸŒจ I am glad I’m still wearing my muzzle ๐Ÿ˜ท as so many people are out sick lately, but I’ve been healthy. Muzzles really do make a difference.

The guy who is very proud of his red socks ๐Ÿงฆ is on the express bus again. I haven’t seen him in years, he is an occasional eccentric who from time to time rides the express bus. Always well dressed, looks like a state worker but it’s weird, he always introduces himself and shows you his socks. Seems like a jolly old fellow, reminds me a bit of Warren Buffet, maybe I should spend some more time listening beyond saying Good morning, those are nice socks, and dipping my head into my phone, trying my best to ignore the non-sensible things he says to himself. ๐Ÿ“ฑ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:07 pm with sun having an altitude of 27° from the due south horizon (-43.8° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:08 pm with the sun in the southwest (235°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (243°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:52 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 16 seconds with dusk around 5:22 pm, which is one minute and 13 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:57 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and snow ๐ŸŒจ and freezing rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 32 degrees. There will be a east-southeast breeze at 5 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 36 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 52 seconds over today.

Tonight will rain, snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 2am, then rain likely, possibly mixed with snow showers. ๐ŸŒง Low of 32 degrees at 6pm. 17 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 2nd. East wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 14 degrees. The record low of -22 occurred back in 1970.

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 34. North wind around 7 mph. Sunday, a chance of rain and snow after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 37. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Typical average high for the weekend is 32 degrees.

I think this will be a weekend to stay home. ๐Ÿก I am thinking Saturday I will walk out to Five Rivers for a few hours. Maybe do a morning hike there and then go down to the library. Or maybe I’ll go to the library Friday night and then out to Five Rivers on Saturday afternoon. A lot depends on how much snow we ultimately get, or how icy things are. I still think it’s going to be more rain and wet slop locally but only time will tell.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Ground Hog Day ๐Ÿป when the sun will be setting at 5:11 pm with dusk at 5:39 pm. On that day in 2022, we had snow, mostly cloudy and temperatures between 27 and 20 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 53 back in 1981.
