March 31, 2023 Morning

March leaves like a wet lion ๐Ÿฆ

I’m out walking though not as early as I often do as I slept well but was a bit slow rising as it was a bit cold with the heat off. I probably should have turned it on but it’s going to warm up as it’s essentially April.

Good morning! So yeap, on this Friday March is almost done. Partly cloudy and 25 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… Calm wind.Things will start to thaw out at around 8 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Cold for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ but I’m getting it done. It certainly was colder in the winter but it’s good to get in as many steps as possible early as I think it’s going to rain later on. My ankle was bothering me last night for a while but I got my 7 1/2 miles in and it feels better today.

Today will rain, mainly after 2pm. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ High of 47 degrees at 1pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 24th. Light southeast wind becoming south 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 60 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1998. 14.6 inches of snow fell back in 1997.โ„

Yesterday, I missed the express downtown ๐Ÿฐ ๐Ÿš as the bus was running like 5 minutes early, and the Real Time Bus Info was down. Heck of it is if I caught the bus at the traffic light at Delaware and Cherry I’d be good but I decided to walk down to the other bus stop so I wouldn’t have to deal with the pesky traffic light walk signal ๐Ÿšฆ which at times can be quick, but also can be incredibly slow at other times. Plus I wanted to get more steps in. It wasn’t that much of a delay, and the local got me to work a little after 9, which is still before most folks.

March 30, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. โ˜บ

We are grooving our ways through the March, with April scheduled to start on Saturday but I’ll believe it when I see it. But I like getting out at five and taking the express home.

Partly sunny and 25 degrees for the morning walk on this Thursday in Delmar. ๐ŸŒ„Breezy, ๏ธ16 mph breeze from the northwest ๐ŸŒฌ . The current wind chill is 12. Honestly I don’t think it’s that cold out but maybe in the city with all those big buildings the wind is whipping around. Things will start to thaw out at around 11 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Cold day ahead but warm enough to not need the heat, โ™จ๏ธ as it will be above freezing and I’ll be at work all day.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 41 degrees at 5pm. 10 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 5th. Northwest wind around 16 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 44 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 1986. 4 inches of snow fell back in 1911.โ„

Doesn’t seem like it’s going to be a particularly warm day today ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ but I figure I’ll be in the office ๐Ÿข most of the day and the sun shining on my desk is always nice. Been a relatively quiet week but know one of these days I’ll have a bunch of projects hitting my desk.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:01 pm with sun having an altitude of 51.1° from the due south horizon (-19.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:42 pm with the sun in the west (270°). ๐Ÿ“ธ

The sunset is in the west (276°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:19 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 7:47 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the southeast (144°) at an altitude of 69° from the horizon, 252,079 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:21 pm. Tomorrow will have 12 hours and 43 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over today.

Yesterday like usual I walked down to the park ๐Ÿšถ and got my 7.5 miles in for the day. Cooked up a big pan of rice, beans and lentils in the morning which I had with broiled salmon ๐Ÿ  and veggies which was pretty good. Got home, had some cherries ๐Ÿ’ and went to bed ๐Ÿ›. Woke up during the night and listened to a while to a podcast on the Central Limits Therom.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 23 degrees at 2am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 7th. Typical average high for the weekend is 52 degrees.

After calling around I found a doctor ๐Ÿง‘‍โš•๏ธ that was taking new patients for my physical but not until the end of May. But I didn’t want to have to go into the city and this place is within walking distance from home which is good. It just seems wrong to drive to a doctor’s visit, kind of like smoking a cigarette the doctor gave you. ๐Ÿšฌ Gives me more time to get in shape and improve my health ๐Ÿฉบ and I’m not in that much of a rush.

Also made the appointment for my truck to be serviced on April 10th. ๐Ÿ”ง I wanted to have that done before I’m doing a lot more driving as I’m overdue for some fluid changes and with inflation trying to maximize use of my truck. ๐Ÿ›ป

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ when the sun will be setting at 7:52 pm with dusk at 8:20 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 51 and 39 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 65 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1962.

March 29, 2023 Morning

Made it to the middle of the week. ๐Ÿซ

Day by day we are very to the weekend and April 1st. It’s going to be warmer out soon, including today and the mornings are getting brighter.

Good morning on this the final Hump Day of March. Partly clear and 26 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒ… Calm wind. Things will start to thaw out at around 8 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Started out cold but expected to warm quickly today. ๐Ÿธ I heard the spring peepers for the first time locally last night. Others said they’ve been out for a few days. Not really loud yet, it’s early in the season. Out for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ not as dark as recent days with clear conditions this morning.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 55 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 6th. Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 85 was set in 1946. 5.6 inches of snow fell back in 1984.โ„

At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 49 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 11 mph. Tomorrow will have 12 hours and 40 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over today.

Got out of work at five 5โƒฃ and caught the express bus ๐Ÿš home which actually had the in service sign on. Same bad driver, I swear he was chatting with passengers ๐Ÿ‘ฅ more than driving, swerving through traffic on 32. I guess it’s the end of his shift, he was tired. Walked 7 1/2 miles which these days is my effective weekday goal. ๐Ÿฅ… Kind of a chilly evening ๐ŸŒƒ though I sat out back for a while before retiring to bed ๐Ÿ› a little before nine.

Tonight will rain and have some snow showers, becoming all snow after midnight. Some thunder is also possible. ๐ŸŒง Low of 24 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 10th. Breezy, with a south wind 11 to 16 mph becoming west 19 to 24 mph in the evening. Been researching doctors ๐Ÿง‘โ€โš•๏ธ to get my yearly physical now that I’m forty and undertaking my walk program. I am going to call today and see if I can make an appointment for after Easter to mid April. It’s not a rush but I want to get checked out before I do my thirty mile walk ๐Ÿ‘ฃ this spring.

Trout opener still looks mild but wet. ๐ŸŽฃ Saturday, rain before 2pm, then showers likely after 2pm. High near 67. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Maximum dew point of 53 at 11am. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 46. Breezy. Typical average high for the weekend is 52 degrees.

I’ve been thinking where to hike on Saturday if I want to do twenty miles. ๐Ÿšถ I thought about Thacher Park but I don’t relish climbing the New Salem Hill or all those miles on busy highways hiking. I’m thinking instead to hike to Hollyhock Sanctuary in South Bethlehem and if I’m up to it then Blodgett Hill.

Looking ahead, there are 6 weeks until Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ when the sun will be setting at 8:06 pm with dusk at 8:36 pm. On that day in 2022, we had sunny and temperatures between 77 and 39 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 1970.

March 28, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. โ˜๏ธ

It’s official the normal high is 50 and will be above that until November. It’s more clear then ever that the heat is done until then. Now just the wait until the green up, the drying of the mud and the black flies.

Cloudy, dark and 38 degrees in Delmar for the morning walk. โ˜๏ธ There is a north-northwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The rain is done and more sun is expected late.

The heavy rain โ˜” held off until late and got my 7 1/2 miles of walking ๐Ÿšถ in for the day yesterday which was good. I woke up early – that is 4:30 and then fell asleep until 6 when I started my walk. I can wait until it’s a bit warmer and I can sleep with my windows open. That said, I really need a night in the wilderness with a rip roaring fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ to sleep well.

Today will have a slight chance of showers before 8am. Mostly cloudy โ›… with more sun late ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 48 degrees at 4pm. I thought Monday was a good day โ˜บ, getting out at five with the crappy bus driver not driving so I caught the express ๐Ÿšwhich was running a bit late but not a big deal. I bought some kale to add some more fiber to my diet which is good. Maybe I’ll use it with the eggs ๐Ÿฅš this morning. I got eggs and milk ๐Ÿฅ› last night after walking for breakfast. I was in bed around eight ๐Ÿ› and asleep before nine 9โƒฃ.

Good evening! Cloudy, damp and 33 degrees for the evening walk ๐Ÿšถ. Calm wind. There are 7 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThe skies will clear around 10 pm.

The dire emergency snow storm ๐ŸŒจ they were talking about on the news ๐Ÿ“ฐ was whatever. I shoveled off my truck and brushed off the snow. The sidewalks were wet. I got my 10,000 or so steps ๐Ÿ‘ฃ and that’s what’s important these days. I’m so close to winning ๐Ÿฅ‡ that badge for 50 days of consecutive 10,000 steps.

Rice ๐Ÿš and broccoli ๐Ÿฅฆ for dinner tonight. Simple quick to cook. And healthy though I added a bit of vegetable oil, salt and pepper. And saved the excess for a future meal ๐Ÿด. I figure it’s best to try new things that are inexpensive but healthy.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon with 66% illuminated. At 7 PM, the moon was in the south-southeast (167ยฐ) at an altitude of 74ยฐ from the horizon, some 248,976 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by September 5th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Worm ๐Ÿ› Moon is on Tuesday, March 7. Getting bigger every night ๐ŸŒƒ.

Been continuing to read ๐Ÿ“– the book I’m reading on machine learning. I just need to find a killer project that I can use machine learning ๐Ÿค–

February 28, 2023 Morning

Good morning! It’s the dire winter emergency according to the morning news. I mean there is some snow and ice on the secondary roads but the sidewalks are clear and I’m out for my morning walk on this Tuesday. ๐Ÿšถ

Overcast and 27 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜๏ธThere is a east-southeast breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There is maybe 4 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 1 pm. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

So I was worried about the snow interfering with my morning walk ๐Ÿ‘ฃ but it stopped early and the sidewalks and roads are pretty much clear locally. Maybe it’s the valley snow shadow they were talking about. Truth is it’s a pretty nice morning, not real cold. But then again the average high for this time of year is 40. Depending on how much more snow we get later and how warm it gets today I could see wet sidewalks by evening and bare by tomorrow morning.

Maybe the express bus ๐Ÿš from Voorheesville will be a bit late ๐Ÿšbut I will get ready and watch it on the map ๐Ÿ—บ from inside and head out when it gets to Slingerlands. I live in the city, what do I care?

Today will snow, mainly before 4pm. ๐ŸŒจ High of 33 degrees at 2pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 8th. East wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible. I had a slice of the corn bread I made up Sunday and some coffee โ˜•. Iron my shirt ๐Ÿ‘š and shower ๐Ÿšฟ and head off to work. ๐Ÿข And do the usual game. Yesterday I made hash browns in the oven from the farmers market potatoes ๐Ÿฅ” with an egg ๐Ÿฅš, some corn ๐ŸŒฝ and cheese ๐Ÿง€.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:09 pm with sun having an altitude of 39.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-31.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). High noon

February 21, 2023 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 38 degrees on this Tuesday evening for the walk. ๐ŸŒฅ There is a west-northwest breeze at 14 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. They were talking about rain but I haven’t gotten wet yet. Did rain a bit earlier looking out my office window.

It was a busy day at work ๐Ÿข followed by a busy day of projects at home. But I managed to get in more than 17k steps today. You get the steps in early then there are more opportunities to get steps in later in the day. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain showers, mixing with snow after 9pm, then gradually ending. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 29llgl degrees at 6am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 24th. West wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2022, we had clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 19 degrees. The record low of -08 occurred back in 1963.

I was surprised to open my mail ๐Ÿ“ฎ and see the State Board of Elections sent me the Albany County Voter File on a DVD ๐Ÿ“€. Didn’t charge for it either. I had assumed that it would be a drop box link ๐Ÿ”— to download. Of course it’s a bit of a problem as my computer no longer had a DVD player installed as my other hard drive is there. I didn’t know people used DVDs with bandwidth being so cheap. I feel silly for only requesting just the county file ๐Ÿ“‚ and not the state. But I only really plan to model on county data and help local candidates this year. Next year I’ll get the state file.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon with 4% illuminated. The Worm ๐Ÿ› Moon is on Tuesday, March 7.
