June 5, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 70 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. Calm wind. The dew point is 60 degrees. πŸŒƒ

A very pleasant evening with the Strawberry Full Moon. πŸ“ Fairly mild with the spring peepers and frogs 🐸 chirping in the background. It wasn’t real hot day but by afternoon it was a bit hot working under the tent. πŸŽͺ A busy day at work but things that needed to get done got done. Lately the work at work has been pretty dry and boring πŸ’€ but it was important work that needed to get done.

Tonight will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4am. Patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, partly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 59 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 22nd. Maximum dew point of 60 at 9pm. Light southwest wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2019, we had heavy rain in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 61 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1971.

Tonight will have the Strawberry Full Moon. πŸ“ At 9 PM, the moon was in the east-southeast (123Β°) at an altitude of 2Β° from the horizon, some 232,774 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. πŸš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by November 29th. Buckle up for safety! The darkest hour is at 12:57 am, followed by dawn at 4:43 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:18 am in the east-northeast (57Β°) and last for 3 minutes and 30 seconds. Sunrise is 21 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:02 am with sun in the east-northeast (65Β°). Tonight will have 8 hours and 41 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and one second over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, partly sunny β˜€, with a high of 71 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 22nd. Maximum dew point of 60 at 6am. West wind 7 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. It became sticky as the day progressed. The high last year was 76 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1925.

I am going to do some hiking and fishing 🎣 tomorrow. Nothing too ambitious. Sunday I’ll run out to Speculator for some beer, ice and other food supplies and probably set up camp by Mason Lake for a few days next week β›Ί. Or maybe I’ll head home. Probably not until sometime next week as long as I have decent cell service for work at that other campsite. πŸ“Ά Also maybe some hammock time and reading. πŸ“– Don’t plan to get out of bed early tomorrow as I’m staying up late tonight πŸŒ• with the full moon lighting the land up all around and no bugs at night πŸŒƒ and possible rain β˜” in the morning. Sleep in late enough and things will start to clear.

In four weeks on July 3 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (303Β°) at 8:41 pm,πŸŒ„ which is 6 minutes and 53 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had hot, partly sunny, shallow fog and temperatures between 90 and 63 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 102 degrees was set back in 1911.

Looking ahead,

June 4, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 64 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. πŸŒƒ There is a southwest breeze at 5 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 55 degrees. A pretty nice evening to be up in the Adirondacks.

It is nice to be up north camping β›Ί but don’t get me wrong, it was still very much so a working day. I might of set up camp at the same end of the day but for most of the day I was actually quite busy. But I plan to work from camp tomorrow and heavierhave a quiet weekend, probably just hiking from camp to fishing and swimming holes. 🏊 That said by Sunday the high is only going to be around 70 and if I move to a different campsite come Monday highs will only be in the sixties.

It was a long trip north. πŸš™ Traffic seemed a bit heavier with the lock down ending πŸ”“ and the fact I left about a half hour later as I didn’t need to get a campsite before work. I’ve been staying up too late lately and tonight is no exception although there is no reason for me to get up early tomorrow morning and even less for Saturday. Yes I have to clock in a nine but I can still be cooking breakfast 🍳 while I boot the laptop and clock in. All the wires and power is run for the morning, setting up should be a breeze.

With the wind this afternoon πŸƒ I ended up working from my truck at the Speculator Library. I found it hard to hear client calls πŸ“ž by the lake and it looks bad if they could hear waves cashing in the background. It wasn’t super hot today and while it was pleasant working down by the lake I wanted to have unrestricted internet so I could watch YouTube in a picture in pictures window while I worked. πŸ’»

Believe it or not the bugs 🐜 are worse now than a two weeks ago over Memorial Day Weekend. Only black flies then but now the horse flies are out as are some mosquitoes. The screen tent πŸŽͺ helps a lot if I’m careful not to let them in but even after dark the hammock ain’t that great.

That said by 9 pm the worst of the bugs were done 🐜 and I had a big ol fire around ten once the wind diedπŸ”₯. Stayed up another two hours, partly next to the fire and partially in the hammock. Too many clouds ☁ to get a good view of the full moon πŸŒ• or see the land all lit in moonlight.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy πŸŒ₯, with a low of 57 degrees at 4am. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 15th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 6am. Southwest wind around 5 mph. In 2019, we had light rain in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1990.

Tonight will have a Full 🌝 Moon with 99% illuminated. At 11 PM, the moon was in the south-southeast (158Β°) at an altitude of 24Β° from the horizon, some 230,582 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. πŸš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by November 26th. Buckle up for safety! πŸ’Ί The Strawberry πŸ“ Moon is on Friday, June 5. The darkest hour is at 12:57 am, followed by dawn at 4:44 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:19 am in the east-northeast (57Β°) and last for 3 minutes and 29 seconds. Sunrise is 23 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:02 am with sun in the east-northeast (65Β°). Tonight will have 8 hours and 42 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 5 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers between 10am and 11am, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11am. Partly sunny , with a high of 79 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 17th. Maximum dew point of 60 at 8am. Southwest wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 83 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1925.

In four weeks on July 2 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (303Β°) at 8:42 pm,πŸŒ„ which is 7 minutes and 49 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 84 and 65 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 60 degrees. The record high of 98 degrees was set back in 1966.

Middle Lake 3

June 4, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Partly sunny and 61 degrees at the Speculator Village Park. There is a west breeze at 10 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 56 degrees. It was neat watching the deer graze along the river early this morning.

So I’m up in the Adirondacks for an indeterminate time period πŸ—» like most of us are living through these days. Working from my phone and the Speculator library Wi-Fi, πŸ“Ά might as well take advantage of the nice weather and remote work before the office reopens at some point in the near future. Wearing a banada over my face won’t be fun while working, although I have a private office at my current job 🏒 so I doubt I’ll have wear a mask in the office.

It should be a nice weekend up north, β›Ί although I’ll have to watch out for thunderstorms and plan appropriately with the battery πŸ”‹ bank to keep things properly charged. I have enough food and supplies through probably Monday but I’ll need ice from Speculator before then so I can get additional supplies as needed if I decide to stay longer. I will have to move to a different campsite if I stay beyond Sunday but next week is kind of up in the air. Once I’m set up at camp I probably won’t drive anywhere, instead just hanging out and relaxing and walking wherever I need to go like down to the swimming 🏊 or fishing 🎣 hole.

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 77 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 10th. Maximum dew point of 56 at 9am. It should be a great day outside. West wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 70 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1919.

Today’s plan between the emails and the messages and calls πŸ“ž is to some birding 🐦 and enjoying the sun before setting up camp. After 11 am I expect a fairly busy day but my laptops are fully charged and ready to go so I anticipate no issues. πŸ’» Plus I should have ample solar. β˜€

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:57 pm with sun having an altitude of 69Β° from the due south horizon (-0.9Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 7:52 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-northwest (303Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:35 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 29 seconds with dusk around 9:09 pm, which is 44 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full 🌝 Moon in the southeast (134Β°) at an altitude of 14Β° from the horizon, 230,416 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:56 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 71 degrees. The dew point will be 55 degrees. There will be a west-southwest breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 7 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌀, with a low of 57 degrees at 5am. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 15th. Maximum dew point of 56 at 4am. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph. In 2019, we had light rain in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1990.

I am glad that the state is forcing stores to take back cans 🍻 starting this week. While ultimately I found eight cans in my refrigerator I didn’t buy any more beer for camping in ground I didn’t have a lot of space for empties. I didn’t want to have to make a special trip to the transfer station to dispose of them – it’s not like you can burn aluminum cans. β™» Most Coronavirus is passed by close physical contact indoors so it seems silly to ban returns. Instead I bought apple 🍏 juice which is not only cheaper but also slightly more healthy even if it junk food with all the natural sugars and calories. But I plan to be splitting wood and hiking this weekend so I’ll have plenty a chance to burn calories.

Next week I’m going to call the mechanic πŸ”§ about the toe in on the rear left tire which is now showing very noticeable wear. I think something was bent when I damaged that shock bushing back in 2017. I’ve known about the issue for a while but rotating the tires addressed it but now that things are getting worn down its more noticeable. I was hoping to wait to do repairs and get a full alignment when I got new tires in a year or two but it needs to be addressed sooner than later. I know it should have been the responsible thing to do some time ago. πŸ™

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. πŸ˜• Saturday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 72. West wind 9 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 57 at 6am. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 66. Maximum dew point of 45 at 8am. Typical average high for the weekend is 75 degrees.

It’s actually going to be pretty cool up north πŸƒ but hopefully with the sun won’t be too bad. I left the kayak home 🚣 as I didn’t want to have to bother taking it on and off for the needed solar power for work.

I am packed and ready to head up to the Adirondacks before work tomorrow. β›Ί I decided against bringing the kayak and I’m going to just work from Speculator before setting up camp in the evening. Probably spend three nights at the first campsite and move up to Mason Lake on Sunday. Not sure when I’ll be back home, a lot depends if my office 🏒 reopens next week, the condition of the cell service and the weather. It’s an early morning to be up there by nine but not quite as early as a week ago.

Further Down Burroughs Memorial Road

June 3, 2020 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? It’s a dusty delta day, of course. So Bobby Gentrie made famous with the Ode to Billie Joe. Good day for throwing flowers 🌸 off bridges. Three weeks to Latest Sunset πŸŒ†. Cloudy and 61 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a south breeze at 9 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 56 degrees. The skies will clear around 4 pm.

Nice morning, heading out for my morning walk in a bit. 🚢 Pancakes and coffee β˜• for breakfast then it’s down to work, a busy day ahead. Busy enough I actually ended up doing some work last evening before bed. That’s why I ended up skipping on the blog post for the night.

After work or in the off chance I have downtime today I’ll start packing for camping β›Ί. I am probably going to go up to the Adirondacks for 4-5 days, although it’s a bit uncertain based on the weather. More remote work this week although with the Capital Region in Phase 2 I tend to think my office 🏒 will be reopening soon. I haven’t heard anything from CDTA when the bus service will resume but I expect it’s coming back relatively soon. I will probably camp at the campsite where I have the good cell phone reception πŸ“Ά and lots of sun for solar. This time I’m not bringing the kayak just because working up there I need the solar in the day time and it’s kind of pain to take on and off repeatedly.

 Busy Spring Morning

June 1, 2020 Night

Good evening! First day of June 1st done. Partly cloudy and 57 degrees in Delmar, NY. β›… There is a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. πŸƒ.

Starting to get a bit chilly out back but I watched some YouTube videos I downloaded today at the library on the laptop πŸ’» out back under the very starry skies and moon light. Kind of a nice evening but getting chilly. Saw one or two fireflies earlier but there time now. Also heard an owl. Been out back for almost three hours now.

Busy day at work so I didn’t get much time to work on the blog. πŸ“ Just a lot of emails and projects to do through the day. I did go for both a morning and a evening walk around the super block today. 🚢 Didn’t make it out to Five Rivers today, too busy and it got cloudy out by afternoon.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy πŸŒ₯, with a low of 48 degrees at 5am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 20th. Tonight will have 8 hours and 52 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 12 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy πŸŒ₯, with a high of 71 degrees at 2pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 22nd. Maximum dew point of 50 at 6pm. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 76 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1895.

Tomorrow I need to decide on my weekend plans – if I decide to go north β›Ί I have to pack Wednesday and leave by 6:15 am to be ready to go and clock in at Spectulator by nine and get down to work. I’ll probably work at the library Wi-Fi and my phone an set up camp after work at Five. I’ll bring extra clothes and food this time in case I move to another campsite Sunday night and stay up north even longer than planned.

Good evening! Partly clear and 55 degrees in Delmar, NY. πŸŒƒ There is a west breeze at 8 mph. πŸƒ

It’s a fairly nice evening, I thought πŸ’ it was a good weekend. Saturday I went to Schodack Island and Sunday to the Albany Pine Bush Preserve and Five Rivers. Spent a lot of time looking at the birds 🐦 and wildlife. 🐸 🐰 Even common wildlife is fascinating to observe. πŸ”Ž It’s so easy to walk by it in the woods and not observe all that is happening. I did see some fireflies 🐝 outside the other night, I’ve not spent as many evenings out back lately as another one of those camping chairs I got from Walmart is falling apart again. I should look for something of better quality.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌀, with a low of 43 degrees at 4am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 3rd. West wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight. Light west wind becoming northwest 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 24 mph. That said, it should be a pretty nice day for working outside. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1918.

I am still thinking about heading up to the Adirondacks on Thursday bright and early β˜€ before work and spending Thursday and Friday working up north and Saturday and Sunday recreating. Its only three nights camping so I could stay all weekend in that campsite that has the good cellphone πŸ“± reception πŸ“Ά for working. I got my fishing license tag in the mail today. 🎣 Now if they check I won’t have to pull it up on my phone.
