June 20, 2020 Night

Good evening! Clear and 69 degrees at the Mason Lake. โœจ Calm wind. The dew point is 61 degrees. Last night at this campsite at Mason Lake as it’s already been three nights here.

While I definitely got some good beach time in today ๐ŸŠ it’s been quite busy with work, having spent more than half of the day working and that doesn’t include the unbilled time this evening sending emails to clients ๐Ÿ“ง for sign off. But it’s been nice.

Set up the hammock tonight and the colored lights at camp ๐Ÿ”ฅ and had a small fire for a while. But it’s pretty dry. I was going to go fishing ๐ŸŽฃ this evening at Mason Lake but there was some thunder โšก and lots of little work things to do.

Tonight will have isolated showers and thunderstorms before 11pm. Patchy fog after 4am. Otherwise, partly cloudy , with a low of 60 degrees at 5am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 27th. Maximum dew point of 62 at 11pm. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 59 degrees. The record low of 41 occurred back in 1970.

Tonight will have a New ๐ŸŒš Moon. The Buck ๐ŸฆŒ Moon is on Saturday, July 4. The darkest hour is at 1:00 am, followed by dawn at 4:41 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:17 am in the northeast (56ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 32 seconds. Sunrise is 11 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:01 am with sun in the east-northeast (63ยฐ). Tonight will have 8 hours and 34 minutes of darkness, a decrease of over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, mostly sunny โ˜€, with a high of 82 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around July 2nd. Maximum dew point of 63 at 9am. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. It became very sticky as the day progressed. The high last year was 78 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1938.

Tomorrow I want to take down camp relatively early and get out on Mason Lake to do some fishing ๐ŸŽฃ and then maybe Lewey Lake. I will also need to get ice. Then assuming that I can get the campsite I want with the good cellphone reception ๐Ÿ“ถ I’ll set up there for the next three nights. Then on Wednesday night I might go up to Horseshoe Lake although not set in stone. I remember having good reception up there years ago.

In four weeks on July 18 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (300ยฐ) at 8:34 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 8 minutes and 6 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had humid, mostly cloudy, mist and temperatures between 80 and 70 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 83 and 62 degrees. The record high of 100 degrees was set back in 1953.

Looking ahead, Inauguration Day 2021 ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป is in 7 months.

June 20, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Summer! ๐Ÿ“Those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer. That said, I have to clock in and work half a day midday today but later on I’ll probably check out the Speculator Beach. Today I’m wearing a t shirt ๐Ÿ‘š and sunscreen.

Despite Coronavirus and the primary Tuesday it’s summer. ๐ŸŒผ Hazy hot and humid today. Partly sunny and 62 degrees at Mason Lake. โ˜€ Calm wind. The dew point is 61 degrees.

Today will be scattered showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 3pm. Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, mostly sunny , with a high of 80 degrees at 4pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 22nd. Maximum dew point of 61 at 7am. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. It became very sticky as the day progressed. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1953.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:00 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.9ยฐ from the due south horizon. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:59 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (297ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the borthwest (304ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:43 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 33 seconds with dusk around 9:18 pm, which is 14 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 10:06 pm. At sunset, look out for thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 74 degrees. The dew point will be 62 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 15 hours and 25 minutes of daytime, an increase of 3 seconds over yesterday.

Bass season opens up today ๐ŸŽฃ so after I get back to camp this afternoon I’ll have to do some fishing until around dusk ๐ŸŒ†. Tomorrow I’ll probably go for a paddle on Lewey Lake although I’m not 100% sure on that. ๐Ÿšฃ I have to move to a new campsite tomorrow as my three nights expire here.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 8pm. Patchy fog after midnight. Otherwise, partly cloudy , with a low of 59 degrees at 4am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 22nd. Maximum dew point of 62 at 8pm. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 59 degrees. The record low of 41 occurred back in 1970.

There are 7 months until Inauguration Day 2021 ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป when the sun will be setting at 4:53 pm with dusk at 5:24 pm (Standard Time). The average high temperature is 32 degrees, with a record high of 61 in 1895.

June 18, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 66 degrees at Mason Lake. ๐ŸŒƒ Calm wind. The dew point is 59 degrees.

Not right on the lake like last time I camped up here but so be it. โ›บ This campsite has decent sunshine and okay cell service so I’m hoping to work all day here tomorrow but it will depend on if I need high speed internet for work and how hot it gets and how much I want to go to Spectulator Beach for a swim. ๐ŸŠ

Kept camp simple for the night ๐ŸŒƒ as I just wanted to hang out and relax and I wanted to avoid draining the battery bank ๐Ÿ”‹ so I have plenty of energy โšก for work tomorrow. The truth is the propane lantern ๐Ÿฎ in the screen tent plus the ordinary 12 volt lamp in the truck cap is plenty.

Gathering wood for the fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ I think I wandered into a patch of poison ivy. ๐ŸŒฟNot sure if I got any of the urushol on my legs but I washed them down with water ๐Ÿ’ฆ and soap and changed my socks. I also washed my hands. โœ‹ Hoping I won’t break out later in the weekend. I knew about the poison ivy in the area and I spotted several three leaf plants near the campsite but most of them where black berry. The poison ivy was down the road from camp.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 3am. Otherwise, partly cloudy , with a low of 58 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. Maximum dew point of 59 at 11pm. Calm wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was humid. It got down to 66 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1950.

Tired ๐Ÿ˜ด and it was relatively late by the time I got up here as I worked from home and had a few loose ends so I didn’t get to leave right at five. Plus this area is a bit longer drive than Piseco Powley Road which not only is closed on the south end but lacks the essential cell service I need for work. ๐Ÿ“

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent ๐ŸŒ˜ Moon with 5% illuminated. Really good for observing ๐Ÿ”ญ the stars tonight – quite clear. The Buck ๐ŸฆŒ Moon is on Thursday, July 2. The darkest hour is at 1:00 am, followed by dawn at 4:41 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:17 am in the northeast (56ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 32 seconds. Sunrise is 7 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:01 am with sun in the east-northeast (63ยฐ). Tonight will have 8 hours and 34 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 9 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have isolated showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, mostly sunny , with a high of 80 degrees at 3pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 22nd. Maximum dew point of 61 at 7am. โ˜€ Light south wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1995.

So at the meeting today we were told we had to work a half day on Saturday ๐Ÿ’ป and to plan on working late Monday and Tuesday. That said, I’ll probably just work from camp. Going to have to change sites on Sunday but I have a plan. If I can’t get the site I want I might head home Sunday night. Otherwise I’ll stay up until Wednesday – and the who knows. I was thinking I could head up north of Tupper Lake or even up to Saint Lawrence County or maybe the places in the Tug Hill where I have good reception ๐Ÿ“ถ. From the meeting this morning it sounds like our physical office ๐Ÿข won’t be reopening anytime soon. I just hope the bus service is back up and running before then. ๐Ÿš

Big Red drives nice with the new ball joints and tie rod ends. ๐Ÿš˜ It wasn’t cheap and while if I was a mechanic I could have saved a bucket of money ๐Ÿ”ง I shouldn’t have to worry about either failing in the life of the vehicle at this point. I can cringe at the cost but I knew it would be necessary after a number of years with the lift kit – which has been on the truck for five and a half years now. I’m much more able to get in and out of tight turns and it rides quieter and steers a hell of a lot better. Hopefully the uneven tire wear will be arrested too. I had budgeted for it when I bought the lift kit and it’s not like I’ve not destroyed them on every other car I’ve owned with the shitty roads I drive. Price the shop quoted me was basically the same price as when I had a similar job quoted on my old truck years ago.

My truck may be pissing a lot of money away ๐Ÿ’ธ but having a fun car at least once when you are young is worth it if only for the lifetime of memories. I’ve learned so much about batteries ๐Ÿ”‹, electricity and solar power and its lead to many nights in the wilderness. ๐Ÿบ Could I have given the money away to feed needy children ๐Ÿšธ or invested it?๐Ÿ’ฐ Sure but it was luxury I could afford and I go without plenty of things like air conditioning, or high speed internet at home. I don’t take expensive vacations, I’m happier wilderness camping โ›บ.

The fan I bought yesterday ๐Ÿ’จseems to be quite powerful and when the motor heats up uses a little under 35 watts and a bit more when cold. It’s alternating current so there will be greater inverter and reactance loses than my DC fan I use in my truck cap but it’s a lot easier to run 120 volt AC line back to the screen tent ๐ŸŽช especially if I’m also charging my laptop and phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ for work.

In four weeks on July 16 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (301ยฐ) at 8:35 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 6 minutes and 4 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had hot, humid, partly sunny, thunderstorm and temperatures between 92 and 60 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 83 and 62 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1900.

Settles Hill

June 9, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 68 degrees Mason Lake. ๐ŸŒŸ Calm wind. The dew point is 54 degrees.

Sitting down by the lake, listening to the frogs ๐Ÿธ, a screech owl and a loon. Drinking a beer ๐Ÿป looking up at stars โœจ. One firefly in the air. ๐Ÿ Also a bit of a noisy party with people hanging out at a campsite down the lake. โœจ Checking out the stars with the star gazing app on my phone.

After packing up and organizing my gear, I ended up working from my campsite all day. โ›บ I just moved Big Red a few feet to make sure it was parked in the sun to keep the laptop and battery bank charged. Packing things up helped get things a lot more organized – and this morning had more downtime then recent. Finally hung up the flags ๐ŸŽŒ and hammock and electric lights tonight. They do make camping kind of more fun.

It’s night three at this campsite so I have to take camp down in the morning. ๐ŸŒ… I I’m going to work down in Speculator – probably just using my phone and if necessary the cellular internet on the work laptop and in the afternoon will work down at the Speculator library until 5 pm. Strangely enough it wasn’t until this afternoon I hung up the flags ๐ŸŽŒ or the hammock but I’ve been so busy this week – I was tired ๐Ÿ˜ด after hiking Sunday and Monday I had to work late and by the time I had dinner and went fishing ๐ŸŽฃ it was dark and I had to call it a night ๐ŸŒƒ.

Come the close of business tomorrow ๐Ÿ’ผ it will have been a six night camping trip with five days of work and a weekend through in when I did some hiking. Left last Thursday at 6 am before work, I’ll be home before 8 pm Wednesday this week. Because five out of the seven days were work days and my office has been quite busy, I won’t say I did a lot of scenic viewing but the hike through the dirt logging trails of Perkins Clearing to the Speculator Pig Rock ๐Ÿฝ and Jessup River ๐Ÿ , the hike to Fawn Lake and Wilcox Vly were nice. ๐Ÿšถ As was fishing ๐ŸŽฃ down at Mason Lake after work and hiking the Speculator Nature Trail several times. Solar for the most part kept my work laptop ๐Ÿ’ป well charged.

But alas I’m running low on clothes ๐Ÿ‘– and food ๐Ÿ” so I need to head home tomorrow after work. The ice will be gone by tomorrow but I have little left to spoil. There is no reason this can’t repeat in two weeks should my office remain closed. ๐Ÿข That said I kind of expect to be riding the bus ๐Ÿš to work downtown next week even though nothing formal has been announced yet. Autumn though maybe the pandemic will be back and I can hunt before work. Plus a lack of sun later in the week poses a problem for keeping the meccessary electrons flowing.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 54 degrees at 5am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 8th. Maximum dew point of 54 at 10pm. Light east wind. In 2019, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 53 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1975.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 79% illuminated. The darkest hour is at 12:58 am, followed by dawn at 4:42 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:17 am in the east-northeast (57ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 31 seconds. Sunrise is 12 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:01 am with sun in the east-northeast (64ยฐ). Tonight will have 8 hours and 38 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 46 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 4pm. โšก Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 74 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 2nd. Maximum dew point of 66 at 5pm. Southeast wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 2008.

My goal is to take down camp quite early tomorrow and be on the road to Speculator ๐Ÿš™ which is only a ten minute drive away. Then get into the meat ๐Ÿ– of the day, get client issues addressed and maybe if there is a little downtime before 11 am hop in the Speculator Beach or hike at the nature trail. I’m hoping I won’t have to work late like on Monday. Then I’m pretty sure I’ll drive home. Not thinking it’s going to be that cloudy โ›… all day and while there may be some severe thunderstorm โšก in the afternoon I feel relatively safe working inside the truck. I’ll shut off the inverter and unplug the laptop if there is severe lightning.

Honesty, working up in the Adirondacks has been a lot more productive than working at home ๐Ÿก or in the office ๐Ÿข. For one, I don’t use my work laptop for any personal business including checking the weather or news ๐Ÿ“ฐ and certainly not my blog. If I was in the office on the wired or Wi-Fi internet, especially in my personal laptop I’d be checking social media multiple times a day, reading the news and probably streaming a YouTube video in the background. ๐Ÿ“น I also feel like while I’m working remotely, especially in the Adirondacks camping, I have to be super responsive to client texts, calls and emails especially during work hours. ๐Ÿ“Ÿ While I try to be serious at work, remote work from the Adirondacks I’m twice as serious about doing my job to the best of my ability. I don’t want to make it seem like I’m on vacation. ๐ŸŠ

In four weeks on July 7 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (303ยฐ) at 8:40 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 3 minutes later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had humid, mostly sunny and temperatures between 81 and 64 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1988.

Looking ahead, Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 2 weeks, Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 21 weeks and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 21 weeks.

June 8, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 61 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. โ˜ A lot of high clouds. There is a northwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 42 degrees.

The past two nights I’ve been keeping it simple with no flags or electric lights. ๐Ÿ’ก Just a small fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ tonight and none last night. It doesn’t get dark until late this time of year and the problem is that if I stay up late and wake up around dawn I’m not getting enough sleep. ๐Ÿ˜ด I was doing so well before the pandemic started at getting to bed early – especially with my earlier work hours ๐Ÿ•’ but I kind of fell of a clift when work at home started and I didn’t have to factor in commute time and could eat breakfast ๐Ÿณ while working.

It was a busy day with work once things got fully underway around 10. I ended up driving down to Speculator today, to use the Speculator Library Wi-Fi. ๐Ÿ“™ I was having trouble uploading data into the computer database so I needed Wi-Fi. That was fine as I was busy today at work and then Wi-Fi is so much faster and more reliable than the cellular service. ๐Ÿ“ถ For a while mid afternoon it felt like I was a short order cook and ended up working into the evening. Did a little bit of fishing down a Mason Lake ๐ŸŽฃ which was so buggy. I should have brought bug spray down to the lake because I’m sure the fish were biting but I had some burgers ๐Ÿ” made from the very over priced grounded hamburger mest I bought down at Charlie John’s. Beef ๐Ÿ„ is pricey with the pandemic closing the slaughter houses even though farmers struggle to sell their cows.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 48 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 20th. West wind 5 to 8 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 49 degrees. The record low of 37 occurred back in 1977.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 87% illuminated. The moon will rise at 11:36 pm. The darkest hour is at 12:58 am, followed by dawn at 4:42 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:18 am in the east-northeast (57ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 31 seconds. Sunrise is 14 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:01 am with sun in the east-northeast (64ยฐ). Tonight will have 8 hours and 39 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 50 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have isolated showers after 2pm. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 77 degrees at 4pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 10th. Maximum dew point of 52 at 6pm. West wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 83 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1933.

While technically I can stay at this campsite one more night ๐ŸŒƒ, I think I will take down camp by mid morning and head into town. I might camp somewhere closer to Speculator tomorrow night or I might drive home. It depends how late I have to work. Or maybe I’ll stay here one more night. Wednesday looks stormy by afternoon which I could work down at the Speculator library but a bad thunderstorm could make it hard to work with pounding rain โ˜” on the roof of the truck.

In four weeks on July 6 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (303ยฐ) at 8:41 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 3 minutes and 59 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 92 and 73 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1886.

As of tomorrow I will have been up in the Adirondacks for six days, working four of them. ๐Ÿ’ผ It’s not been days at the beach, honestly it’s been a lot of hours on the phone talking to clients, ๐Ÿ“ž writing emails ๐Ÿ“ง and memos ๐Ÿ“. It’s also been a lot of hours at the library parking lot using the Wi-Fi. I will have worked a total of seven work days between the two trips since Memorial Day Weekend. Kind of like a vacation week without actually taking time off work so far I’ve clocked in 44 hours working up north – over a work week. But with work from vacation land.

Looking ahead, Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 2 weeks.

 Clearing At Stewart Landing

June 7, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday โ›ช! Next Sunday is Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ. Mostly sunny and 51 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. There is a north-northwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 43 degrees.

Absolutely stunningly beautiful morning. โ˜€ Deep blue skies and a breeze but not really cold. Sitting back with a cup of coffee having some breakfast and taking down camp. Today unfortunately is check out day โ˜‘ for this campsite, I may camp at Mason Lake tonight but that’s not 100% certain.

Today will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a high of 66 degrees at 3pm. 10 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 5th. North wind 8 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 82 degrees. The record high of 95 was set in 1999.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:57 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-0.6ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:54 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (303ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:37 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 31 seconds with dusk around 9:11 pm, which is 39 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:59 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 58 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 19 minutes of daytime, an increase of 55 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 3am. Otherwise, partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 39 degrees at 5am. 15 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 21st. North wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 53 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1951.

On this day in 1965, the Supreme Court of the United States hands down its decision in Griswold v. Connecticut, effectively legalizing the use of contraception by married couples.

 Pride

June 6, 2020 Night

Good evening! Clear and chilly around 55 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. โ˜” There is a northwest breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 47 degrees. That breeze along with the dampness of the rain earlier make it kind of chilly.

I did lay back in the hammock for a bit until I decided it was getting cold and I put my jeans, ๐Ÿ‘–, hoodie and vest on. I don’t think I was fully prepared for how chilly this evening would be after the rain shower and strong winds pushed through followed by the rainbow ๐ŸŒˆ. Stars โœจ are real pretty now that I’ve cut the lights for the night ๐ŸŒƒ but it’s cold so after sitting by the fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ for a while I hit bed in the truck.

While this campsite โ›บ is quite beautiful ๐Ÿ—ป it is very exposed to the weather. Sunny days are hot. The wind is always quite strong here. ๐Ÿ’จ It’s a great place to be cold and get a sunburn. A few of the days working under the screen tent ๐ŸŽช may have pleasant but they sure where hot.

It was nice hiking ๐Ÿšถ through logging roads down from Mud Pond Road to NY 30, through mixed age woods and some more recently cut areas. Part of the less used part of the logging road was a bit muddy but the recent cut areas are well maintained. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒDefinitely see a lot of grassland birds including grouse that are relatively uncommon in other parts of the Adirondacks. Seeing the pig rock ๐Ÿฝ up close was neat – I’ve only driven by it before and while I’m not sure if Jessup River under NY 30 has currently enough water to paddle ๐Ÿšฃ it looks like good fishing ๐ŸŽฃ. More photos to come when I get home.

I am afraid my love ๐Ÿ˜ of apple juice ๐Ÿ as an alternative to beer ๐Ÿป due to the recycling returns โ™ป restrictions due to Coronavirus caught up with my after dinner in the sense I had to run to the bucket shitter ๐Ÿ’ฉ twice after dinner. That plus the greasy sausage patty despite the cheese and sauce toping did not help. At least mornings are nicer with no hang over. ๐Ÿ˜– Feeling fine now but I was hot and I pounded the apple juice rather than the water ๐Ÿ’ฆ when I got back to camp.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before 11pm. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 46 degrees at 6am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 14th. North wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 53 degrees. The record low of 37 occurred back in 1958.

Tonight will have a Full ๐ŸŒ Moon with 97% illuminated. The moon will rise at 9:51 pm. Late enough for some star viewing โœจ before the moons light pollution drowns out everything. The darkest hour is at 12:57 am, followed by dawn at 4:43 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:18 am in the east-northeast (57ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 30 seconds. Sunrise is 19 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:01 am with sun in the east-northeast (64ยฐ). Tonight will have 8 hours and 40 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 57 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 65 degrees at 3pm. 11 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 2nd. North wind around 10 mph. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 82 degrees. The record high of 95 was set in 1999.

I am still kind of ruminating about the loss of Eli the family dog ๐Ÿถ I hadn’t seen in weeks due to the pandemic. I knew he wasn’t doing all that well and he was getting old for a dog but it just bothers me a lot about so much of the world ๐ŸŒ keeps moving on while we social distance. Virtual life isn’t the same as human contact. I should call ๐Ÿ“ž mom again on Monday. I’m probably going to camp for one or two more nights at a different campsite and work up here for a few days before heading home. I’d still like to do some shore fishing ๐ŸŽฃ at Mason Lake.

In four weeks on July 4 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (303ยฐ) at 8:41 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 5 minutes and 56 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had hot and humid weather, mostly sunny and temperatures between 91 and 66 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 104 degrees was set back in 1911.

Looking ahead, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 2 weeks.
