July 15, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly clear under the full moon ๐ŸŒ• and 71 degrees in Delmar. Calm wind. The dew point is 58 degrees. It is beautiful moonlit night before the heat and humidity really kicks in later in the week.

I got some nice fresh and cold milk from Stewart’s, ๐Ÿฎ and I appreciated the local cows with some fresh blueberries and cherries ๐Ÿ’. I liked the blueberries but I guess the cherries I bought where only modestly sweet. I thought about buying ice cream but this is a healthier option. It was a nice reward after a pleasant evening walk. ๐Ÿšถ

Been working on Save the Pine Bush stuff at the library, doing research and recreating tax maps for a project for Save the Pine Bush. Some of those metes and bounds for the Crossgates parcel are tough to reproduce. ๐ŸŒ The metes are hard to find the reference point of the imaginary lines, and the bounds often follow detailed building edges. And it’s a shit ton of parcels. But I’m making progress. ๐ŸŒฒI’ll be back at it Wednesday night, as tomorrow night I’m over at John Wolcott house for his history project and file sorting. ๐Ÿ“‚ I’m thinking if a print the tax maps (probably after breaking the county’s silly print disable – Linux don’t care ๐Ÿง), and download the underlying OrthoPhoto geotiff, then I can probably work on it one day at camp off line.

Tomorrow marks 50 years since the first departure from the earth to the moon. ๐Ÿš€ While only 24 human beings would ever walk on the moon, it was a remarkable accomplishment that was probably abandoned much too early in our history only three years later in December 1972. Some people are skeptical about the moon landings, it only happened six times by man before getting the congressional axe. โœ‚

I should see if PBS or one of the other YouTube channels will have a special I can watch about Apollo 11. ๐ŸŽ‘ It would be fun to watch on the laptop while I’m at camp during vacation. That said by the time on my trip it should be the last quarter moon ๐ŸŒ“ so it should be good for looking at the stars assuming that I have clear nights up at Foster Pond. ๐ŸŒŸ Maybe see some shooting stars.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 59 degrees at 6am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 21st. Maximum dew point of 58 at 10pm. Light southwest wind. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It was humid. It got down to 69 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1946.

Tonight will have a Full Buck Moon ๐ŸŒ• with 99% illuminated. The sun will rise at 5:31 am with the first light at 4:58 am, which is 51 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 9 hours and one minute of darkness, an increase of one minute and 29 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have patchy fog before 7am. Otherwise, mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 86 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees above normal. That’s like a hot summer day with humidity pushing in tomorrow. Maximum dew point of 67 at 6pm. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 96 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1900.

So I have the camping permit ๐ŸŽซ for camping in Wellsboro Thursday through Saturday nights but I don’t have to camp all those nights. It’s just an option, although I’ll probably stay at least one night as I don’t want to drive all the way back from the Allegheny National Forest in one day and I’d like to hike at least part of the Pine Creek Gorge trail. ๐Ÿšถ I wish I had a working bicycle, that’s a good way to explore it.

I’m still on the fence about leaving Friday night versus Saturday morning. If I leave Friday night I will be out in the Finger Lakes by Saturday afternoon as I’ll stay at Brookfield on Friday night and drive the rest of the way on Saturday. ๐ŸŠ Probably take old Route Twenty out through Montezuma as mom wants me to get her wine ๐Ÿท and I like avoiding both Cortland and Ithaca going that way. If I leave Saturday, I’ll go to Glimmerglass State Park Beach on Otsego Lake, then Brookfield Saturday night, and get to the Finger Lakes National Forest later on Sunday night, when I think it’s most likely that I can get the Chicken Co-op Campsite that my GPS likes to call it. โ›บ Which ever day I arrive, probably before setting up camp I’ll visit Taughnahock State Park and check out the beach on Cayuga Lake. I checked, the Winery opens at nine AM both days including Sunday. I didn’t know wineries could sell before noon in New York but apparently they can. That said I doubt I’d be out to Montezuma before noon either day.๐Ÿฆ Probably won’t spend much time at Montezuma as it’s going to hot and sticky and there won’t be many birds out and about.

I kind of would prefer to visit the Watkins Glen Pool on the weekend ๐ŸŠ as it’s fully open then. Weekdays half of the pool is closed I believe although maybe not if it’s hot and sunny and there is enough people. But then again the swim lanes are fully open and the nice chairs are always available when the pool is open. The other thing is I only plan to spend half the week in the Finger Lakes, the balance of the week will be in Allegany or Cattaraugus County in Western New York and then down to Pennsylvania for a few days. ๐Ÿš™

In four weeks on August 12 the sun will be setting at 8:01 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 30 minutes and 5 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had humid, partly sunny and temperatures between 79 and 67 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 81 and 61 degrees. The record high of 99 degrees was set back in 1944.

Looking ahead, Work Like a Dog Day ๐Ÿฉ is in 3 weeks, Last Sunset After 8 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 4 weeks, National Dog Day ๐Ÿฉ is in 6 weeks, Labor Day ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 7 weeks and Columbus Day ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ is in 12 weeks.

The rain certainly brought out the birds, as witnessed on this tree.

May 16, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 62 degrees Calm wind.๐ŸŽ‘ The dew point is 41 degrees. A fairly nice spring evening but the air is a bit pungent with manure with the farm down the road spreading. ๐Ÿ’ฉBeen tough on anyone that does field work this spring. It’s just been so wet, in most of the country. ๐Ÿ’ฆ Rain again om Friday and probably Sunday too. Go figure.

I was quite concerned about delays getting home with the Corporation Challenge Run. ๐Ÿƒ It was a beautiful day for the run for sure, but often it messed up the buses a lot. But this year, the express bus was only about 10 or 15 minutes late, and I was home by six, so not a big deal.๐ŸšŒ Traffic on the outbound was lighter then expected, and all and it, it’s a very nice evening.

But tonight is nice. ๐Ÿ‘ Sitting out back with the almost full moon. I hooked up the laser firefly light show out back. Kind of pretty watching the flicker on the ground although the real thing is even better. ๐Ÿ Been such a cold spring that I bet the real fireflies will be late this year. I hear deer in the woods, a bird chirping in the distance and lots of motor vehicles. ๐Ÿ I live on the outskirts of the city but still close enough for transit.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 49 degrees at 5am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 21st. Calm wind becoming southeast around 5 mph after midnight. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 59 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1959.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ” with 99% illuminated. The moon will set at 5:05 am. The ๐ŸŒ• will be tomorrow with a chance of showers. The sun will rise at 5:31 am with the first light at 4:58 am, which is 59 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 9 hours and 18 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers likely, mainly between 10am and 3pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 72 degrees at 5pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 23rd. Maximum dew point of 58 at 4pm. South wind 6 to 11 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Well, it was a nice break in the rain for a change. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 2017.

The Pine Bush display was much more ready to go then I expected this year. ๐ŸŒฒI did send some handouts to be made up at the copy shop. Hopefully I made up enough, it’s kind of expensive to do the copying even on lightweight paper. At least its all ordered and I can pick it up tomorrow. ๐Ÿ“‘ Then it’s the long day at the Lupine Festival but hopefully I’ll have some help. I just hate to spend money ๐Ÿ’ต on something that’s going to be thrown away.

So much for that super nice weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 67. Northwest wind around 8 mph. Maximum dew point of 46 at 7pm. Sunday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 64 at 4pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 70 degrees.

After the Lupine Festival I’ll probably go for a walk and head home. ๐Ÿšถ If Sunday doesn’t look good I’ll just stay in town, run to the store then out to my parents house. Save gas for next weekend. โ›ฝ Not that I have super big plans for Memorial Day Weekend, at best it’s back up to the East Branch to spend a few days swatting black flies. ๐Ÿœ

Definitely looking forward to warmer weather and nights in the wilderness. โ›บ I’ve already gotten two weekends in this year but there are more to come. This might be my second to last year of doing these trips if I decide to go car less in 2021, but I want to wait and see what tomorrow brings. I like traveling but I hate the scams, awful people on the automobile industry. I could save so much money by going car lees for a few years and reduce my carbon footprint ๐Ÿ‘ฃ enormously.

In four weeks on June 13 the sun will be setting at 8:34 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 22 minutes and 6 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 75 and 60 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 77 and 56 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 1892.

I still can’t believe what an idiot Trump ๐ŸŽบ is with his tarrifs. In the mid term the presidents actions are eventually going to be be so bad for the economy. ๐Ÿ“‰ We should be building bonds with other countries, tearing down trade barriers and walls, bringing the globe together not splitting it apart. ๐ŸŒ Ignoring our global problems aren’t going to make them go away.

Looking ahead, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is a month away, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 5 weeks, Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 7 weeks, Last Sunset After 8:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 2 months, August ๐ŸŒป is in 11 weeks and Last Sunset After 7 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 20 weeks.

Reflections

April 29, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Four weeks to Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ. Sunny and 36 degrees in Elsmere. NY. ๐ŸŒž Calm wind. Cold but sunny start to the morning. I know a month ago we would have called today a fairly nice day. But May starts on Wednesday and things have greened ๐ŸŒฟ up a lot in the city.

While lately my sleep has improved a lot lately I still decided to take a sleeping pill ๐Ÿ’Š before bed and I feel a bit groggy this morning. It’s a Monday, I’m not driving. I do think I got plenty of sleep so once I really wake up I should be feeling good. I’m sure by mid-day I will be quite awake or whatever is needed for a good jolt. โ˜• I did have a good breakfast of coffee and eggs ๐Ÿณ, ironed my shirt, and I’m off. Should be a nice day when I get into the office, with lots of natural sunlight, but then clouds later.

Today will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a high of 60 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 19th. North wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the afternoon. A year ago, we had light rain. The high last year was 50 degrees. The record high of 88 was set in 1888. 1.0 inches of snow fell back in 1885.โ„

It looks like I forgot to buy contact solution this week, ๐Ÿ‘€and I don’t have any at home. I guess I could drive down to the Elsemere Park and Ride tomorrow and drop off one of my jackets for dry cleaning, and then get the solution or maybe I can walk down to Rite Aid downtown after work and get some. Depends how late I get out this evening, and how it work with the bus schedule.

The sun will set at 7:53 pm with dusk around 8:24 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 55 degrees. There will be a east-southeast breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 14 hours and one minute of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 32 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers, mainly after midnight. ๐ŸŒง Low of 42 degrees at 3am. Typical for tonight. Southeast wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2018, we had light rain in the evening, which became mostly sunny by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 38 degrees. The record low of 25 occurred back in 1874.

Most of this week weather wise doesn’t look great, but so be it. The weekend does look nicer. As I mentioned last night, my aunt is coming up from Arizona on I am going to stay in town so I can visit her. โ˜€ It might be a fairly nice weekend although the models are rather mixed on that point. I guess it doesn’t matter that much, but I’m hoping for a nice weather when I see her.

The following week I may head up to Piseco-Powley Road, which is open south of the Hamilton County Line/Potholers. I would like to do some spring hiking ๐Ÿšถat Moss Island to see the birds and wildflowers ๐Ÿ but only if the weekend looks rain free. But nothing is set in stone yet. โ›ฐ Things could change with the weather. The following weekend is the Lupine Festival.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:22 pm with dusk at 8:56 pm. On that day in 2018, we had rain showers but otherwise partly sunny and temperatures between 68 and 54 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 73 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1914.

I am undecided what I will do on Memorial Day this year ๐Ÿ• — I doubt I’ll do Vermont this year, maybe just head up to the East Branch of the Sacandaga again and do some camping and day hikes. I’m not really sure, as it’s rarely good weather that weekend, with all the black flies and the alike. Black flies, with all the rain we’ve had lately, are expected to particularly bad this year. But camping is always fun, assuming it doesn’t rain all weekend.

April 14, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Palm Sunday ๐ŸŒด! Next Sunday is Easter ๐Ÿฐ. Cloudy and 50 degrees at the Five Rivers Environmental Education Center in Delmar. โ˜ There is a north breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear tomorrow around 10 pm.

This morning I decided to walk out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center ๐Ÿธ, like I’ve been doing the past few weekends. I prefer it to the rail trail as you never see anybody walking out here and there is a lot more nature and interesting quiet places here then along the rail trail. Lots of birds ๐Ÿฆ chirping around, I saw the Ground Hog again. I timed myself this morning โŒ›took almost exactly 40 minutes to walk out here, a 2.4 mile walk at 3.7 mph. Walking is such a good healthy activity.

Today will have a chance of showers after 3pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 63 degrees at 4pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 25th. Maximum dew point of 49 at 6pm. Light and variable wind becoming east around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became rain by afternoon. The high last year was 49 degrees. The record high of 83 was set in 1968. 1.4 inches of snow fell back in 1950.โ„

I’m heading over to John Wolcott’s house this afternoon. ๐Ÿ“‚ I’m on the fence about taking the bus ๐Ÿš versus driving ๐Ÿš˜ but I think the easiest and most environmentally friendly way is to bus it. I mean regardless of if I ride it, the bus is going downtown. I really try to do whatever I can to avoid motoring.

The sun will set at 7:36 pm with dusk around 8:05 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 56 degrees. Definitely a lot rain seen in the radar, Buffalo is getting soaked today. Won’t be much field work getting done in Western NY today. ๐ŸšœThe dew point will be 50 degrees. There will be a southeast breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 22 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be occasional showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. ๐ŸŒง Low of 54 degrees at 8pm. 17 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around June 6th. Maximum dew point of 55 at 12am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Southeast wind 10 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2018, we had cloudy in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1940.

As previously noted, next Sunday is Easter ๐Ÿฐ when the sun will be setting at 7:44 pm with dusk at 8:14 pm. On that day in 2018, we had sunny and temperatures between 60 and 34 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 61 degrees. We hit a record high of 89 back in 1923.

I am hoping for one nice day during Easter Weekend ๐Ÿฐ to get out and hiking. Platte Clove is still on the top of my list ๐Ÿ“ƒ but there are other options. So many trails are wet and muddy ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿท this time of year.

Apple Trees

March 24, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Two weeks to 7:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡. Sunny around the freezing point in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒž There is a southwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. No real snow left to report in the Delmar area.

Just got done with my waffles for breakfast ๐Ÿด and now I’m baking brownies to bring out to the folks house later. Just waiting for them to finish up. I was hoping they’d be done by nine but they still were uncooked in the middle. That Pyrex pan I use takes a long time to fully heat up. I hope it’s done soon, I’m biting at the chomp to get out on my walk ๐Ÿšถ to Five Rivers.

Today will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a high of 54 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 5th. I like April weather this time of year. West wind 6 to 11 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 43 degrees. The record high of 69 was set in 1976. 5.5 inches of snow fell back in 1956.โ„

Right now it’s a beautiful morning with the birds ๐Ÿฆ a chirping. This morning before it gets cloudy I’m going hiking out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center for a morning hike before it clouds โ›… up. I enjoy the walk out there almost as much as the preserve although part of the road is pretty narrow. ๐Ÿšถ

Later on today, I’m hoping it will be warm enough to unpack my camping gear from my truck and get into the crawl space in my apartment. โ›บ Left my truck pulled in for easy access for unpacking . Just really needs to be above fifty degrees to do that.

The sun will set at 7:12 pm with dusk around 7:40 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 48 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 22 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 30 degrees at 6am. One degree above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around March 27th. West wind 3 to 7 mph. In 2018, we had partly cloudy in the evening, which became mostly sunny by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 0 occurred back in 1875.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 41 degrees at 4pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 9th. Northwest wind 8 to 11 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 44 degrees. The record high of 74 was set in 1910. 1.9 inches of snow fell back in 1960.โ„

Earlier in the day yesterday I went and visited my niece in Saratoga on her birthday. ๐ŸŽ‚ It was nice to see her but she was tired ๐Ÿ˜ด and kind of fell asleep. Then I went down to the library and uploaded the updated blog code. Turned out to be a sunny day but bitterly cold for late March. I got two shirts at JC Penny, I probably should have tried one on at the store but it matched the size I wrote down โœ’ so hopefully they’ll fit. I’ll try them on tomorrow and have the receipt but they looked like the Oxford shirts I like. Hopefully they’ll work out well and I’ll have enough clean shirts for six session days or maybe more next week.

Definitely that nighttime hike ๐ŸŒƒ in the Albany Pine Bush Preserve was the highlight of yesterday. It was fairly cold โ„ with the wind but I enjoyed it a lot. Didn’t see a lot of wildlife but I did hear some birds in the trees and the sunset followed by dusk then the stars were pretty. ๐Ÿ˜ Driving ๐Ÿš˜ home after dark wasn’t bad but it’s a dark night for sure but the headlights are well aimed on my truck.

Friday night I awoke with a bad Charlie horse ๐Ÿด in my leg and it was a bit stiff yesterday but it didn’t slow me down when I walked those 3 or so miles at the Pine Bush Preserve. Ouch. ๐Ÿ˜ฉNot sure what caused it but I didn’t have issues last night, but I made sure to be well hydrated before bed. โ˜•Maybe it was riding the exercise bike then kneeling for a while after getting tired of my hard chair working on code the other night. ๐Ÿ’ฃI don’t know or maybe I twisted my legs while in bed. At least now I’m feeling better.

I finally also need to go shopping this week – it’s been three weeks since I bought any major groceries or supplies. I didn’t shop at all last week except for milk ๐Ÿฎ and the previous week I only got $18 in groceries. ๐Ÿ It’s good, I’ve really cleaned out the pantry but now there are many things that I need to get to ensure that I have food ๐Ÿฒ during those long days and nights at work. I’m not super involved in the budget process but I have to be available when needs arises. I’m planning to buy things like frozen ravioli and pasta,๐Ÿ— chicken paddies, pasta, ๐Ÿฒhot dogs to cut up with beans ๐Ÿฃ for good eats. Always try to buy the biggest possible package in bulk and use my reusable containers both to reduce waste and save money ๐Ÿ’ต.

Spent more time last night some time making minor fixes and improvements to the backend of the blog. ๐Ÿ’ป Little things that make my life easier or improve the speed and usability of the blog. I also adjusted the code for my VMS sign to make it more ordered and useful to me.

Next Saturday looks to be quite nice in the long range for the Pine Bush Hike. ๐Ÿ˜ŽSaturday, partly sunny, with a high near 62. Maximum dew point of 43 at 1pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 51 degrees.๐Ÿšถ

In four weeks on April 21 the sun will be setting at 7:44 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 56 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had sunny and temperatures between 60 and 34 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 61 and 39 degrees. The record high of 89 degrees was set back in 1923.

Looking ahead, 7:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 2 weeks, Palm Sunday ๐ŸŒด is in 3 weeks, Easter ๐Ÿฐ is in 4 weeks, Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  is in 6 weeks, Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€ is in 7 weeks, Memorial Day Weekend Starts ๐Ÿ•๏ธ is in 2 months, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 12 weeks, Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 3 months, National Nude Day ๐Ÿ‘ฑ is in 16 weeks, Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ is in 5 months, Sunset Before 7:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 23 weeks, Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ is in 26 weeks and Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 29 weeks.
