Good morning! Happy Palm Sunday π΄! Next Sunday is Easter π°. Cloudy and 50 degrees at the Five Rivers Environmental Education Center in Delmar. β There is a north breeze at 5 mph. π. The skies will clear tomorrow around 10 pm.
This morning I decided to walk out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center πΈ, like I’ve been doing the past few weekends. I prefer it to the rail trail as you never see anybody walking out here and there is a lot more nature and interesting quiet places here then along the rail trail. Lots of birds π¦ chirping around, I saw the Ground Hog again. I timed myself this morning βtook almost exactly 40 minutes to walk out here, a 2.4 mile walk at 3.7 mph. Walking is such a good healthy activity.
Today will have a chance of showers after 3pm. Mostly cloudy π¦, with a high of 63 degrees at 4pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 25th. Maximum dew point of 49 at 6pm. Light and variable wind becoming east around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became rain by afternoon. The high last year was 49 degrees. The record high of 83 was set in 1968. 1.4 inches of snow fell back in 1950.β
I’m heading over to John Wolcott’s house this afternoon. π I’m on the fence about taking the bus π versus driving π but I think the easiest and most environmentally friendly way is to bus it. I mean regardless of if I ride it, the bus is going downtown. I really try to do whatever I can to avoid motoring.
The sun will set at 7:36 pm with dusk around 8:05 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. π At sunset, look for rain π§ and temperatures around 56 degrees. Definitely a lot rain seen in the radar, Buffalo is getting soaked today. Won’t be much field work getting done in Western NY today. πThe dew point will be 50 degrees. There will be a southeast breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 22 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be occasional showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. π§ Low of 54 degrees at 8pm. 17 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around June 6th. Maximum dew point of 55 at 12am. ποΈ Southeast wind 10 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2018, we had cloudy in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1940.
As previously noted, next Sunday is Easter π° when the sun will be setting at 7:44 pm with dusk at 8:14 pm. On that day in 2018, we had sunny and temperatures between 60 and 34 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 61 degrees. We hit a record high of 89 back in 1923.
I am hoping for one nice day during Easter Weekend π° to get out and hiking. Platte Clove is still on the top of my list π but there are other options. So many trails are wet and muddy π¦π· this time of year.

Going to be a beautiful day at work today, I’m sure I won’t need to turn on the lights when I get into the office. 🏢 I always like days when there is tons of sunlight flowing in the office. Might have to draw the curtains later on though once it starts to get hot. I expect all week that I will be working quite late but so be it. Except for Tuesday night it should be nice sitting out back each night especially no that I can use the lights whenever I need them.
Five work days, and it will be Memorial Day Weekend. I’m still watching the forecast to decide on my plans but the Southern Adirondacks and Vermont are on the short list. A lot depends on how busy I’ll be at work.

A Coda to Saturday’s Essay
I often think for too long people have been kept in their comfort bubbles, unwilling to confront new ideas. But in an era of multiple crisis looming in our nation — climate change, energy security and overpopulation — I think new ideas are needed. I am not going to re-argue my previous essay, but I do think people should be respectful of my ideas not be afraid to look at how we could better protect individual freedom and manage our limited resources.

My Arduino based GPS trip logger is done for all practical purposes, although I want to make up a more permanent power supply and package it up discretely in a yogurt cup. It’s nice, it records my exact location within 6 feet, elevation, speed of travel, direction of travel, time and date, every second. 80 characters or bytes per second works out to be 2.5 gigabytes per year, assuming that I never shut it off. It uses a 8 gigabyte MicroSD card for logging. I fixed the VMS time and countdown display system, just by switching the Vin pin to the 5v pin. No more crashing with a slight voltage drop.
I got out grocery shopping today which was good, as eventually the ice melted and I was once again low on supplies. 🍝🍳🍎🌽🍄
