August 8, 2017 10 PM Update
Good evening! Mostly clear and 65 degrees in Delmar. Calm wind. The dew point is 54 degrees. A nice evening.
I went this evening to the Albany County Young Democrats Installation Ceremony. It was a nice little reception. I might do a few more ACYD events this year, I’ve been involved with the Young Democrats on and off for many years now. I’m often busy with work and I don’t like driving in the city, so I’ve missed many events over the years. It’s tough to be involved especially when you work late and have to travel for work a fair amount.
I probably should have gone for an evening walk but I was lazy. I’ve been walking down to the express bus both in morning and evening so I have excuses.

Tonight will have 9 hours and 50 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 25 seconds over last night.
Tomorrow will have patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high of 83 degrees at 3pm. One degree above normal. Maximum dew point of 59 at 6pm. Calm wind becoming west 5 to 7 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 2001.
Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 67 at 7pm. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 80. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 66 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 81 degrees. I think I will be staying in town this weekend.
The stuff with North Korea and President Trump is just nuts. It just seems like its going to end badly for both countries. I wish we had a mature adult for president.

Trump gets a folder full of positive news about himself twice a day β VICE News
"Twice a day since the beginning of the Trump administration, a special folder is prepared for the president. The first document is prepared around 9:30 a.m. and the follow-up, around 4:30 p.m. Former Chief of Staff Reince Priebus and former Press Secretary Sean Spicer both wanted the privilege of delivering the 20-to-25-page packet to President Trump personally, White House sources say."
"These sensitive papers, described to VICE News by three current and former White House officials, donβt contain top-secret intelligence or updates on legislative initiatives. Instead, the folders are filled with screenshots of positive cable news chyrons (those lower-third headlines and crawls), admiring tweets, transcripts of fawning TV interviews, praise-filled news stories, and sometimes just pictures of Trump on TV looking powerful."
Nixon resigns – August 8, 1974
In an evening televised address, President Richard M. Nixon announces his intention to become the first president in American history to resign. With impeachment proceedings underway against him for his involvement in the Watergate affair, Nixon was finally bowing to pressure from the public and Congress to leave the White House. βBy taking this action,β he said in a solemn address from the Oval Office, βI hope that I will have hastened the start of the process of healing which is so desperately needed in America.β
Why Don’t School Buses Have Seatbelts?
"In 2014, my son Harry started kindergarten. He and his pals loaded on the bus and went to school for the day. When they got to their after-school program, the teachers asked the kids what they did that day. Five-year-old Wesleyβs response was at the top of the list: βWe didnβt wear seat belts on the bus.β
"We have obsessively trained our children to buckle their seat belts from the moment theyβre able to. If I try and pull away from a parking spot and Harryβs not buckled in, he lets me know loud and clear. From the first moment they enter an automobile, todayβs kids are lashed in place with more protection than Neil Armstrong had when he went to the moon."
"Yet, five years later, many American kids board the school bus and sit on a sheet of upholstered plywood without as much as a lap belt, and we hardly question it.
