Orchardists and farmers in the Hood River area are βway ahead of most other regionsβ when it comes to these sorts of interventions, Adams says.
The sterilized moth release from this summer is modeled after a long-standing project in British Columbia.
The Okanagan-Kootenay Sterile Insect Release Program has sterilized and released codling moths into the Okanogan Valley area since 1992. Thatβs led to a 94% reduction in the moth population, which in turn has reduced the quantity of pesticides deployed by 96%.

Then we get at least one more blast of August-like weather for the second half of the week into the weekend. I am undecided, I could head out of town but I probably wonβt as I just got back from the Adirondacks on Monday. Plus with work I doubt I can get away from cell service for the weekend with work.

Got my steps in yesterday and Iβm up early getting my steps in on the Plaza before work. It seems like lately Albany has had a growing problem with the homeless, you see more and more of them at the bus stop and at the Plaza sleeping abs leaving piles of debris.j A number of days the stairways to the Plaza has been closed due because homeless people have crapped there and the other day there was a very obvious prostitute sitting on the steps of the State Capitol. Just gross.
Really since the pandemic, cities just seem like they have been going in the wrong direction. They just arenβt as clean, with more vandalism and graffiti everywhere, more dirt and pollution. Some people want to blame the partisans of the other side, but it seems like things are worse then were a few years back when cities were starting to turn the corner. Delmar is getting back to normal but itβs just Albany. Maybe I forgot how bad old Albany was during my time working from home and avoiding downtown during the pandemic.
I wanted to walk at six oβclock in Delmar, but the mornings as so dark now that we are in September. Plus itβs kind of a gray day as the rain pulled out. But at least I got my steps in yesterday, and with walking the plaza today I should have my steps in.
Last night was a Save the Pine Bush Meeting over Zoom which I participated in then retired to bed early as it was a dark and damp night, although not so wet that I couldnβt walk. Had Ziti for dinner. It was good, enough to have tonight too or save for a day or two. I do need to go shopping relative soon but I can squeeze a few more nights out of the pantry until this weekend I am thinking. Or maybe at lunch time I could run up to the supermarket, to avoid a trip. That said, gas prices have come down a fair bit.
