Vinyl Chloride Spills

Vinyl Chloride Spills

I was thinking about the recent chemical spill in Ohio, and remembered the vinyl chloride spill at Selkirk Railyard last year. I was curious how common such spills are. 60 reported spills of vinyl chloride have occurred since 1976, though some of them didn't have enough information to geocode on the address on the map.

Williamsport – US 15 and US 220 Interchange

Eventually the western portion of the Susquehanna Beltway and US 15 north of Williamsport will be designated Interstate 99, as all of US 15 through Corning, NY has been twinned and made-grade seperated to Interstate standards, but there are still significant gaps of at-grade four-lane road around Jersey Shore and the interchange between section of US 220 south of Lock Haven and Interstate 80 is not yet started. Notice that tight "U"-turn flyover that makes the connection to US 15 due to the location of the river, the Lycomming Creek and other topological constraints to the interchange.

Wegmans vs. Price Chopper

Wegmans vs. Price Chopper

There is definitive line between Wegmans versus Price Chopper in New York State, though it gets a bit messy in Syracuse and Binghamton.

I think Price Chopper sells Pop in Syracuse. But that's one of the few places it does, I don't know if Wegmans sells Soda anywhere.

Highest Elevation in Albany County

Highest Elevation in Albany County

There was a discussion on Facebook about the highest point in Albany County. I thought this would be an easy and fun GIS question. Looking at 10 m digital elevation model, the answer would be 42.52806632, -74.19845216 -- the lands of Susan R Lubbin, 776 Pond Hill Rd, Town of Rensselaerville (94.8 acres). Officially, Henry Hill at 2,162 foot elevation is the highest point in county, however at least from digital elevation model, Henry Hill is 2,164 ft and the lands of Ms. Lubbins is 2,170 ft.
