July 27, 2018 Night

Good evening! Rain and 66 degrees at the Cherry Ridge Camping Area at the state forest in Brookfield. β˜” Calm wind. The dew point is 61 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 10 am.

I always forget what beautiful country it is out here and what a nice scenic drive, 🚗with the rolling country and the dual carriageway so you don’t have to worry about taking your time. 🐮 Not a bad trip out here, no weather issues although there was a tree and power lines down just up from where I parked at work.🐢 Traffic was a bit heavy on the Thruway and when I got to Bridgewater, traffic was stopped. I think their had to be a crash or power lines down, but I was able to turn around and sneak past by going through Unadilla Forks which is a cute little village.🚜 I think I’ve been there before but I can’t remember why.

After I set up camp, had dinner and started a small campfire🔥 it started to pour, 💦 so I retired to my truck cap fairly early. I just lucked out and got hit with a heavy band of rain and thunderstorms but the timing wasn’t awful.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before 4am. Mostly cloudy ☁, with a low of 61 degrees at 5am. One degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 61 at 11pm. Calm wind becoming southwest around 6 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2017, we had mostly cloudy skies with some clearing in the early hours of the next day. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 59 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1971.

Tonight will have a Full Moon 🌖 with 100% illuminated. The moon will set at 6:19 am. The Last Quarter Moon is next Friday with a chance of t-storms. The Strugeon Moon 🌝 is on Saturday, August 25th. The sun will rise at 5:48 am with the first light at 5:16 am, which is one minute and one second later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 9 hours and 22 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 2 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 11am. Mostly cloudy ☁, with a high of 73 degrees at 2pm. Nine degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 60 at 8am. West wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had light rain and mist in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. It became sticky as the day progressed. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 99 was set in 1929.

Definitely much cooler up here than in the city. 😎Tomorrow I’m continuing west of US 20 to Montezuma and then down to the Finger Lakes. 🐦 Maybe there will be more wildlife if it’s not super hot and only limited sun. I don’t know, it will be interesting to see.

Walmart in Glenmont no longer stocks propane hoses, so I’m going to stop at Bass Pro shop or maybe Walmart in Auburn to see if I have one to replace the leaking hose. β›Ί My hope is tomorrow to get the campsite I really like, pitch a tent and gear for camping for the balance of the week. It’s kind of a pain to set up and take down a campsite, especially when you have a week’s worth of gear. Plus I want to get the kayak off my truck as it’s a pain to drive around with when not in use plus it blocks the solar panel.

Looking ahead to Sunday, partly sunny β›…, with a high near 73. West wind around 7 mph. Maximum dew point of 57 at 6pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 82 degrees.

In four weeks on August 24 the sun will be setting at 7:48 pm,🌄 which is 38 minutes and 32 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2017 on that day, we had partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 75 and 56 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 79 and 59 degrees. The record high of 95 degrees was set back in 1947.

Looking ahead, Average High Falls To 79 ️Degrees ⛱️️️ is in 4 weeks, Labor Day Weekend Begins 👨‍🏭 is in 5 weeks, Average High 70 🎑 is in 8 weeks and Buy Nothing Day 🛍️ is in 17 weeks.

July 27, 2018 9:40 pm Update

Night one on my way out to the Finger Lakes, at the Cherry Ridge Camping Area in Brookfield. Just a place to stay overnight not too far from US 20, two hours west of Albany. Big thunderstorm rolled through after setting up dinner and camp.⚑ Hanging out in the truck cap, hoping the rain won’t last, so I can restart the fire. πŸ’¦Montezuma then the Finger Lakes tomorrow.🐦
