Walking around camp on a Saturday morning.
Good evening! I saw my second firefly in the farm field down the road from where I live on my evening walk.🐝Mostly clear and 74 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a south breeze at 13 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 56 degrees.
It is a pleasant evening, although sitting out back that coal tar driveway sealant still stinks to high hell. Kind of a nice warm breeze, crickets and frogs singing their songs. 🐸Still not a lot of fireflies out at this point but every once and a rare while you see one. Much brighter than my laser light. Moon is just starting to peak over the horizon.🌃
I got out of work around six and went down to the park for a while until dusk. 🌳Decided against carrying a book down there as it was getting late so I just brought my phone. It’s truly a blessing how warm and nice the evenings are this time of year.
Tonight will have increasing clouds 🌌, with a low of 60 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 56 at 9pm. South wind 9 to 13 mph. In 2017, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 56 degrees. The record low of 34 occurred back in 1961.

The sun will rise at 5:20 am with the first light at 4:46 am, which is 32 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 8 hours and 54 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 19 seconds over last night.
Tomorrow will have a chance of showers after noon. Mostly cloudy β, with a high of 74 degrees at 3pm. Typical for Tomorrow. Maximum dew point of 63 at 4pm. South wind 9 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had thunderstorm in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 77 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 2013.
Definitely not going to be as nice tomorrow, but it’s fine I have to work. Maybe I should bring my umbrella for the evening commute. β That guarantees no rain come the evening. Today wasn’t too bad of a day at work, I think Thursday won’t be that bad either. Fridays usually are the busiest, especially in June.📚
Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. π Saturday, a chance of showers, mainly before 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 76. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Maximum dew point of 62 at 6am. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 73. Maximum dew point of 52 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 74 degrees.
Saturday apparently is the Lupine Festival. 🌲For some reason I thought it was in two weeks. So I guess I’m not going to have as much time to prepare as I expected but that is fine, we have the same booth we’ve used for years. I’ll have to talk to Lynne about getting the booth together so I can set it up. I kind of wanted to help out at National Trail Day at one of the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy Preserves but I can’t be in two places at once. Maybe that frees up next weekend for camping if the weather is nice. I’d love a ninety degree day at the Potholers. βΊ
In four weeks on June 27 the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm,🌄 which is 11 minutes and 58 seconds later then tonight. In 2017 on that day, we had thunderstorm, rain, partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 71 and 53 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 81 and 60 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1941.
Looking ahead, Independence Day 🇺🇸 is in 5 weeks, Halloween 🛥οΈ is in 22 weeks, Day After Election Day 🛀 is in 23 weeks, Boxing Day 🥊 is in 30 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 👴🏻 is in 138 weeks.
One of my biggest disappointments with the Trump administration is his unwillingness to cut federal spending and downsize the federal government, βallowing private citizens more freedom to go about their lives. He often talks about cutting spending but then adds more unnecessary and wasteful spending to defense🔒 and policing.🔫
Too much of government today has become about fear of the citizens by the government👺 and not enough about helping the average citizen👍. If we cut fear based spending on unreasonable amounts of security and defense and instead invested in arts,🎎 culture,🎑 public gathering spaces🌳🌲 and parks🍃 we could have a better society.
Except of course for the black flies.
Taken on Saturday May 26, 2018Probably the best solutions are smaller neighborhood based changes to adapt to flooding and conversation of storm destroyed areas to wetland. Sometimes cut and run is the best and most economical solution.
