Oil prices are surging toward $100 a barrel. Here’s what to know : NPR

Oil prices are swinging dramatically, with recent peaks pushing close to a major milestone: $100 a barrel.

The possibility of Russia invading Ukraine is the driving force, but there's more at play than the risk of war. And complicating predictions further, the possibility of a deal with Iran is hovering in the background.

Here's what to know as crude prices hover within striking distance of the triple digits last seen in 2014.

Liverpool 1958

Liverpool by 1958 was pretty much built out but the land north of the Thruway was largely still farm country.

Enough Snow to Ski

I was kicking myself for not bringing my skis. Sunday would have been good for skiing in a lot of places up there but by Presidents Day, the snow was pretty soft and sticky and rapidly disappearing. But maybe there is a chance come march to winter camp and ski again.

Got a Covid Booster? You Probably Won’t Need Another for a Long Time – The New York Times

As people across the world grapple with the prospect of living with the coronavirus for the foreseeable future, one question looms large: How soon before they need yet another shot?

Not for many months, and perhaps not for years, according to a flurry of new studies.

Three doses of a Covid vaccine — or even just two — are enough to protect most people from serious illness and death for a long time, the studies suggest.

“We’re starting to see now diminishing returns on the number of additional doses,” said John Wherry, director of the Institute for immunology at the University of Pennsylvania. Although people over 65 or at high risk of illness may benefit from a fourth vaccine dose, it may be unnecessary for most people, he added.

Federal health officials have said they are not planning to recommend fourth doses anytime soon.

The U.S. has said that Europe would be too dependent on Russia for its energy needs should the project come to fruition.

Weather Update – February 22, 2022

Not every day can be sunny, but at least we get two days of mild weather. 🌦

Not to be bad, as the rain will probably chew away at the snowbanks before we get the next big snow storm on Friday. Or maybe not. I know different forecast models say different things as we are still a ways out. ❄

But the good news is that we are heading towards March in a week and the sun angle is much stronger now so it’s unlikely the snow lasts. 🌨 Plus it’s good to have snow in March as it reduces the fire risk. πŸ”₯

It’s nice that with the sunset πŸŒ‡ getting well after 5:30 and dusk after 6 the days feel so much longer. Plus in two weeks we will have the time change which is always good in the evenings but it will make the mornings a bit dark.
