I am less worried then many people about the economy. Maybe because I feel fairly secure at my position and I’ve built up savings and investments over the years, but if Trump crashes the economy with his tariffs so be it. There is nothing I can do to change the economy, and it’s unlikely any recession is likely to last more then a few years. Even if it takes many years for the markets to fully recover from the downturn, I’ve been investing over the past decade and a half, and things are diversified and bought at different times.
I am very skeptical about a very long or deep recession. For one, the American economy is so big and diverse. Politicians fortunates rise and fall on economic news, incumbents don’t want to be seen as doing nothing to reduce human suffering. Moreover, most business leaders nowadays derive the the majority of their wealth not from cash but from stock options, which means if the stock market is in the crapper, CEOs and other leaders have very little money to throw around until the economy recovers. Not to mention, access to inexpensive stocks wouldn’t be a bad thing, as I want to invest more at a lower rate to have more growth for those days when I finally have that homestead I actually want.
That’s what the forecast man is reporting now and I’m sure the snowmobilers are happy as a pig in shit. I’m not as my visions of winter camping next to a big roaring fire in the wilderness seems increasingly unlikely.
It’s fine, there is always another weekend. ๐ฌ๏ธ We are only getting closer to spring each day ๐ธand conditions will improve eventually. The average high tomorrow will be 36 and come two weeks from Friday it will be 40. โ Rain this morning, I’m wearing my rain coat. It’s a bit cool at the bus stop, maybe I should have worn the heavier coat but it’s going to warm up as the day progresses. Black flies take note.
I wanted to catch the early bus downtown but by the time I got done cooking the rice down ๐ฒ there wasn’t time to catch that bus. ๐ Not nice enough to ride in today and tomorrow looks to be too windy and cold although the rain might help with the snow pack on the Rail Trail ๐ฒ but it’s still likely to be rough as hell. Rain really picked up after I got on the bus ๐.
The commute this morning is ordinary despite the dire warnings of the weathermen. โ ๏ธ Just rain in the city though I’m sure it’s a very different thing in the outlying areas. Days like this I’m glad I live in the city and I’m not driving ๐. Even the bus transfer is indoors at the Empire Plaza. Yesterday I walked laps in the Plaza until six o’clock when I went over to Lynne Jackson’s house and we went over to the Guilderland Planning Board meeting over yet another development in the Albany Pine Bush ๐ฒ. One good thing is the developer is notable local Republican and it seems like the board is skeptical. Funny how Save the Pine Bush was much more successful when the developers weren’t associated with Erastus Corning or the Noonans. I’m laughing ๐ a bit about the Cybertruck Elon state department contract, could be brown nosers in the agency hoping to save their jobs, ๐ but regardless the federal government investing in electric vehicles is a good thing even if it appears corrupt as hell. ๐ป
That whole meeting got me thinking about owning my own land and the costs of development, ๐ก even for a simple homestead and not a neighborhood full of McMansions. I wrote down some thoughts about that, acerage and pig ๐ palaces as that off gridder I follow on Facebook calls her stye. It’s different but so related in my mind. I was noticing there is a Maserati parked in the bus turn around at the Empire Plaza next to an unmarked state police ๐จ vehicle and a bunch of Troopers ๐ฎ standing around. I wonder who is the VIP at the Plaza. Talk about things stinking to high hell.
