Winter
Weekend Forecast Looks Warm and Crappy.
Sundayβs weather was supposed to be nice then the forecast made it sound crappier then nicer. Here’s the latest — warm but fairly crappy weather for outdoors stuff.
I think they just spin the dial around every morning, and pick a random forecast. I would like to go somewhere exotic this weekend, but preferably not too many miles away. Maybe somewhere in the Catskills?
Spring can’t be that far away.
Looks like we will have a warm but crappy weather weekend on tap.
Doesnβt Look Good for the Ground Hog
Sunday is Ground Hog Day. It looks almost certain that Phil will see his shadow in Punxsutawney. Going to be in the 30s and mostly sunny. So no early spring, at least not in Pennsylvania. And a lot of angry Pennsyltuckian rednecks wanting to get their revenge on Phil.
The ground hog in Pennsylvania might get a one day reprieve due to Pennsylvaniaβs blue laws against hunting most species including Ground Hogs on Sundays, but it sure doesnβt look good for him thereafter. At least itβs going to be fairly cold for the following week, so most Ground Hogs will be safely hidden underground in their burrows.
This Week’s Forecast.
A cold, but reasonable week on tap with minimal snow the next couple of days.
Looking Forward to Summer
Last night I was looking at some pictures of Piseco-Powley Road from like 6-months ago. I was thinking about how much fun those Friday nights are, leaving Albany with the air conditioning blasting, and then shutting it off when I reach the cooler mountains.
Then cracking open the first cold beer and getting the fire started with a match and a woosh. Friday nights in the summer a lot of fun. Hopefully, this long cold and salt covered winter will come to an end.
It can't be too much longer before this awful winter breaks and summer comes back to warm us all up.
Snowstorm on Saturday?
That seems like a possibility if you believe the weekend forecast. Maybe not a snowstorm, but enough snow to make driving something I am not interested in doing. Sunday might snow also, but I definitely try to make it out to the parents house for Sunday dinner on my 31st birthday. Actually, next pay day is my 31st birthday, which kind of nice because itβs the third payday of the month, and will hopefully give me a chance to get my finances back in order.
I guess I shouldnβt complain. My after tax savings rate is almost 50% when you figure out how the money goes out in every way, but it sure seems like money disappears faster then comes in β and my savings account really only contains a few months worth of living expenses and the retirement account isnβt exactly great either. I just need to drink less beer, and go to grocery store less, and maybe keep the heat turned down a bit more.
More cold and snow is on tap, but maybe it will stop by my Birthday. But the good news: it's a three paycheck month.
Been Fairly Warm, But We Have a Lot More Winter Left
So it would seem. Today is January 17th, which means we are well onto the second half of the month, but it will continue to drag out quite a bit until we reach the warmer and muddier weather of April. I am hoping to get out camping fairly early on in April, although a lot depends on how much snow there is left. I honestly would much rather use all scrap paper stuff around my apartment to start a campfire then take it to the recycling center.
The thing I miss the most about this time of year is traveling. I can certainly make day trips, but itβs still pretty cold to do much outside most weekends. You never know what the back-roads are going to be like this time of year or how a snow squalls could impact your travels. I love being back in the woods, listening to music next to a campfire, having a delicious campfire meal on styrofoam plates, while enjoying a cold drink.
Supposed to plunge back down for next week. More winter like with less mud. Maybe even a bit of snow. Maybe for my birthday weekend, the weather will be nice for some kind of road trip.
