var hoisting
Been educating me self about modern Javascript. It has some werid shit like var hoisting. Pretty sure that’s a bug that somehow became a quote unquote feature, lol.
In Javascript you can legally define a function scoped variable anywhere in the function including in an if statement or after using a variable.
Is homosexuality unnatural? 👨🏻❤️💋👨🏼
Ask that question to a hunter or a farm kid and you’re bound to get some giggles. Bulling – cows mounting cows is hardly an unknown thing or even a buck in rut mounting another buck is hardly an unknown behavior.
Clearly in the animal kingdom sexual activity – often rooted in rituals about dominance is hardly an unknown behavior. But it’s also clearly sexual in nature involving testosterone and estrogen – and the sex organs, even if it’s not about bearing off-spring.
Sex can be problematic, especially if it’s casual and with multiple partners due to the close contact and exchange of bodily fluids it involves. There are good reasons besides accidental reproduction of life to be concerned with sex outside of the desire to create children. Sexually transmitted diseases are real and can have life long consequences. But I don’t think the evidence points to homosexuality as being unnatural.
To get ice cream or not 🍦
I rode my bike down to the Norman’s Kill West Preserve. I almost didn’t want to lest the pressure to get an ice cream at Jim’s Tastefreeze.
Now I get ice cream is not arsenic or $500 but it’s still an expense and calories, loaded with unhealthy ingredients that slowly but surely will eat away at my body. I’m a lot thinner now and make good money.
The question becomes how long to delay gratification. Occasional treats aren’t the end of the world. But good things come to those who wait. But how long should you wait and how much should you give up for a better tomorrow? I know it’s only ice cream and it’s been three weeks since I last had some at the Gas Up. I don’t know.
Happy Friday! 😄
Stunningly beautiful morning, not too humid with blue skies. Got to bed at a reasonable hour last night and actually slept in a big late this morning, had some good carrot pancakes before heading into the office on my bike.
Feeling great after a good nights sleep. I wasn’t sure if I could catch the Presidential debate last night without a television or cable, but it was on Youtube so I could stream it to my phone, though it did put me to sleep as I was tired. But I did catch enough of the somewhat at times cringe-worthy debate, not helped by the fact that the incumbent president kind of got lost in a word salad. Apparently he was quite sick, but he should have called in sick and postponed the debate until he was healthier.
Went out to the Bender Mellon Preserve for a while in the evening, just a quiet walk around some of the fields and trails. I was very tired in the evening. I’ve just been kind of fried and frazzled from the week that was. It’s tough to switch back to work mode, after that great long weekend up in the Adirondacks.
The previous night I stayed up too late working on a document explaining on how to use R Statisical Language to my colleagues at work. Truth is I don’t how many people will end up using it, and I put a of work into it but it would be nice if others could help with some of the data work. I concede much of the work is a bit technical though.
Maybe it was just me trying to escape from reality though, and very much wishful thinking that others could help more with the work load. R programming is a hell of a lot easier then C, there is no memory to manage and libraries simplify things a lot. But we’ll see.
Yesterday, to make matters worse, I was late to work as bucket truck had rolled over on to the power lines on Erie Bouelvard and I had to detour over Water Street then Orange and then up Broadway to work. It wasn’t the worse thing ever but I was a bit late for work. It sure was bright with the power line burning, first thing in the morning and a bit tricky with the traffic lights being out and cars speeding by the shut-off light like it wasn’t even there.
Bog River Falls
The Bog River Falls is not a mighty drop, but it's a popular place for people, myself included, to stop for lunch and take in the scenery. On a hot day, it's probably also a nice place to cool off.
Taken on Thursday June 25, 2020 at Notes.Good morning! Happy Thursday.
I am glad this five-day work week is coming to a close quickly, because who likes to be in the office. You know, I’d much rather be up in the woods drinking beer, floating on the tube, burning shit. Not that I’m the kind of drinker I once was since I got into eating healthy. And heck my sunburnt back is healing now.
Oh, did I do good at the Farmer’s Market at the Empire Plaza, 🍒🥒 $18 bucks later with delicious cherries, mushrooms, green beans, and zucchini. You got it, fried zucchini was dinner. Of course, now I’m running low on olive oil and bananas but I can get that Hannaford this evening. Only did that small $30 grocery stock up on Monday after work on my bike – and with the farmers market stuff I’m pretty good. I could stop on the ride home or maybe I’ll go either out to Voorheesville Hannaford or back to Elsmere and explore the Normans Kill Preserve — first time I’ve been there in a year. Would be tempting to get ice cream while I’m out that way at Tastee-Freeze. That said ,I don’t eat ice cream the way I once did. You can play back that statement come summer vacation.
In many ways I’ve made peace with walking away from that homestead I thought about buying. One can always have regrets about paths not taken, but I don’t know if I was ever serious about it. Good price for the right person or couple who wants to fix up a house out in the country and have some livestock. But I want to travel and still be free to do things while I’m young — and not be stuck with a property when I decide eventually some day to move out of state.
The long weekend next weekend looks warm and sunny. Not sure yet if I’m heading back to Piseco-Powley or the Vermont, although I’m inclined to say Piseco-Powley and just spending the last weekend of the four day-weekend camping somewhere else, maybe hammock camping on Lily Lake, or I could head up to Spectulator. Or maybe somewhere Ive not camped in Ferris Lake Wild Forest like Jerseyfield Lak Road. Forecast could certianly change before then.
