Beautiful day yesterday, driving along the Old Albany Turnpike.
What turned out to be a beautiful day, after hiking back to Little Pond and doing some mountain biking on Prospect Mountain Road in Woodford (Forest Road 273), I discovered this wonderful campsite. Four others along this road, only a short drive to Bennington.
Early spring day with drizzle heading down through Wells, NY
With Stratton Airfield Road still closed in the Green Mountain National Forest and all the campsites taken along George Aiken Wilderness Road, I decided to haul my hammock and screen tent into the back country into a meadow and do some hammock camping for the first half of the Memorial Day Weekend.
When I toured that off-grid house in college, they had a microhydro system that was pretty neat. Microhydro is fantastic if you have water on your land, because water power is constant and is very energy dense. Even a fairly small stream with a decent head can produce quite a bit of energy.
