I have to admit I am getting tired of visiting the same places every time I go out and camp. It seems like lately, Iβve been following almost the same schedule every year, never mixing it up for the holiday weeks.
Iβve been thinking about some alternatives this year β things to for me to consider β not necessarily what I will end up doing.
Memorial Day Weekend to East Branch of Sacanadaga River?
I am getting tired of going out to Vermont each year for Memorial Day Weekend. That weekend is often too wet and buggy to be great for camping, so Iβm thinking this year if I want to enjoy the long weekend, I should think about not going so far away β maybe some camping along the East Branch of Sacandaga River?
Summer Trip to the Adirondacks and North Country?
I havenβt done a summer trip up through the Adirondacks in years. I have spent little time in the North Country. Rather then doing the Finger Lakes again, this might be a good alternative.
Autumn Trip to Southern Ohio?
I am thinking rather then West Virginia this year, I could go out to Southern Ohio for my autumn road trip. There is the Warren National Forest down there, which would be a nice change compared to always going to West Virginia.
A different type of frying oil won't make this calorie and cholesterol-rich food healthy, says Christopher Gardner, a nutrition scientist at Stanford University School of Medicine.
"People should eat fewer French fries, whatever they're deep fried in," he says.
He notes that beef tallow and other saturated fats like butter can lead to clogged arteries and high cholesterol, a risk factor for heart disease and stroke. And while seed oils are ingredients in many highly processed foods, like potato chips and frozen dinners, they're not why these foods are unhealthy, he adds.
When President Trump called for the federal government to βmaximizeβ water deliveries in California, commanders of the Army Corps of Engineers quickly found two dams where they could carry out that order. And even though the officials knew the water couldnβt be moved out of the Central Vally as Trump wished, they released billions of gallons anyway, according to a newly released government document.
The Feb. 3 memo by Col. Chad Caldwell, the corpsβ regional commander, provides the most detailed account to date of how the agency responded to Trumpβs order directing federal agencies to increase water deliveries in California. The document recounts how corps officials suddenly decided to dump water from the dams in January, and how they encountered questions and opposition from local water managers and lawmakers, who were concerned that letting out water didnβt make sense and that the high flows posed risks of flooding.
βIt was cavalier and an extremely high-risk decision, and wasteful,β said Ann Willis, California regional director of American Rivers, a nonprofit environmental organization.
I keep seeing reports that Elon Musk is the wealthies man on earth. Typically such reports use net worth β a fairly simple calculation that takes assets minus debts. As heβs considered in his current role in government β a private citizen β his actual bank account balances are unavailable but his stock ownership is publicly reported as part of his compensation package of the publically traded companies he owns.
The problem with wealth calculation is it assumes that assets are fully liquid and accessible, and that if Elon Musk wanted to fill up his bank account tomorrow, he could sell all his stocks and have a $234 or so billion dollar balance. Of course, that is not a realistic calculation β as many of shares may be restricted by his contract on how quickly he can sell them to avoid depressing the value of stock he owns, not to mention if he were to sell of a big block of stock, it would trigger a reduction of value to stock as the market became flooded with shares. The tax man would also take a large portion of proceeds as Capital Gains taxes when such stock was sold off.
Wealth is werid in that way. Many people who have net assets of significance donβt actually have access to that much case. An extreme example might be farmers and especially dairy men, who might have multi-million dollar holdings when you consider land, cows, equipment and crops. But they struggle to feed their own family off that limited milk check they get, with necessities of supporting the business like repairing and replacing broken farming equipment and paying property taxes on land taking a fair greater priority then their own needs, if they want to their business and ultimately their farm operation and income to continue.
Net assets is a valuable comparison in sense it gives some kind of estimate between groups of people about wealth. People can sell off illiquid assets, even if it comes at a steep cost compared to on paper value. But does it provide the great ability of comparison that people often give it? Assuming Elon Musk doesnβt want to canabalize his assets, how much money does he really have? How much money is actually in his bank account that he can draw upon today, without selling assets? We really do not know.
When I say I am considering various options, be it for housing or other choices in life, people often assume that because Iβm considering option βXβ, I have already decided option βXβ it ill be.
The thing is when Iβm undecided, I am undecided. If I dwell on an idea for a longer period of time, then Iβm more like to choose that option, because I find that option more interesting and worthwhile. Often my earliest notions end up being the best option that I choose to go with, but that is not necessarily true. I like to take my time, evaluate all the facts and think carefully what I value most, even if itβs different from what you think is important.
The dataset represents the locations of combined sewer overflow (CSOs) outfall locations in DEC Region 4, specifically the Albany Pool. It also includes overflow detection capabilities of CSO communities and overflow frequency data within a specified timeframe.
Combined sewer systems (CSS) are sewer systems that are designed to collect storm water runoff, domestic sewage, and industrial wastewater in the same pipe and bring it to the publicly owned treatment works (POTW) facilities. During rain events, when storm water enters the sewers, the capacity of the sewer system may be exceeded and the excess water will be discharged directly to a waterbody (rivers, streams, estuaries, and coastal waters). http://www.dec.ny.gov/chemical/48595.html
The cities of Albany, Troy, Cohoes, Rensselaer, Watervliet, and the Village of Green Island make up the partner communities in the Albany Pool Communities. Among the six communities there are nearly 100 CSO discharge points. The Albany and Rensselaer County Sewer Districts are connected to the CSO program through their State Pollution Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) permits, and are cooperating with the Pool communities in implementation of the Long Term Control Plan (LTCP) for the abatement of CSOs.
