June 24, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Latest Sunset 🌆 of the Year ! Partly sunny and 64 degrees at the Horseshoe Lake. ☔ There is a southwest breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 61 degrees.

After last night’s rain it’s cleared up quite a bit. ☀ This is good because my battery bank is low, and I’ll need to use my laptop for most of the day at work today. But fortunately, no working late today, so

Partly cloudy ⛅ becoming sunny 🌞, with a high of 73 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 30th. Maximum dew point of 61 at 7am. Southwest wind 8 to 15 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1943.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 1:01 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.2° from the due south horizon. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 8:02 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (297°). 📸 The sunset is in the borthwest (305°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:46 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 36 seconds with dusk around 9:22 pm, which is 6 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent 🌒 Moon in the west (274°) at an altitude of 23° from the horizon, 231,209 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 10:11 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 65 degrees. The dew point will be 50 degrees. There will be a west-southwest breeze at 10 mph with gusts up to 22mph. Today will have 15 hours and 30 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 14 seconds over yesterday.

Today I have a paper I’m writing for work 📄 so I’ll be using the laptop all day but I don’t expect I will have to work late so running down the laptop battery 🔋 isn’t a big deal as I’ll have sun to charge it.

I am thinking tonight after work about hiking back to Lows Ledge at 5 pm. 🌇 This should get me back there a little after 7 pm and when there should be good illumination of the land below as it will be a clear and beautiful evening. I will bring multiple flashlights 🔦 but once I’m hiking along the dirt road I doubt I’ll need them.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 53 degrees at 4am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 5th. Maximum dew point of 52 at 11pm. Southwest wind 7 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became rain by the early hours of the morning. It became sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 68 degrees. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1982.

Thursday I plan to take down camp early 🎪 and then maybe go for an early morning paddle, work down by the lake for a while and then at lunch time either drive down to Long Lake for the balance of the day or maybe Tupper Lake. If I do Tupper Lake I’ll get some supplies and set up camp somewhere else through Saturday or if I do Long Lake will do a short evening hike after work and then be home by nine.

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. 😞 Saturday, showers likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. High near 74. Southwest wind 8 to 10 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Maximum dew point of 61 at 8pm. Sunday, a 40 percent chance of showers after 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 77. North wind 3 to 6 mph. Maximum dew point of 62 at 8am. Typical average high for the weekend is 81 degrees.

Clouds Coming In

June 23, 2020 Night

Good evening! Overcast and 75 degrees at Horseshoe Lake. ⛅ There is a south-southwest breeze at 7 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 64 degrees.

This is primary night in the era of social distancing. ❎ While certainly not my only election night bonfire, well more like a small campfire, 🔥 it was interesting watching the results come in eventhough things will change when the absentees come in – 1.7 million state wide due to the pandemic. But less than you might think as absentee ballots are similar in patterns then in person voting. I’ve been doing this long enough to know all the websites to check.

Tonight will have showers and thunderstorms likely before 2am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 2am and 5am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5am. Mostly cloudy ☔, with a low of 64 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 64 at 8pm. South wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 56 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1932.

Tomorrow will have a 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 9am. Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing 🌦, with a high of 73 degrees at 3pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 30th. Maximum dew point of 62 at 6am. Southwest wind 9 to 14 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1943.

I am going to stay up at Horseshoe Lake for one more night after tonight 🌃 and then take down camp early Thursday morning and work down at Long Lake on Thursday, so a short hike after work and head home, getting home 🏡 around 9 pm. I could go to another campsite but I think Saturday is going to be quite rainy ☔.

Looking ahead, there are 19 weeks until Election Day 2020 🗳️ when the sun will be setting at 4:44 pm with dusk at 5:14 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 53 and 30 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 53 degrees. We hit a record high of 75 back in 1990.
