The uncomfortable truth about tarrifs for the liberals ๐Ÿ’ต

There is an awful uncomfortable reality playing out with Trump’s tarrifs in the minds of liberalsย  – they’re raising a lot of revenue with a minimal impact on employment and inflation. That’s a good thing as it says something profound about taxation – namely that taxes on business and wealthy don’t have the great of impact on working people as the politicians want you to believe.

Simply said, if tarrifs work without raising inflation or unemployment much then it’s a strong case for higher taxes on the business, the wealthy, and carbon pollution. The government needs more money, with major expenses like social security and the highway trust fund running deficits and currently needing to be bailed out by the general fund which also runs a deficit. In a sea of red ink, we should be finding ways to raise revenue without driving inflation or unemployment.

Indirect taxes are never one-to-one. Competitive pressures leads businesses to eat at least some of the costs. Oil companies aren’t likely to pass all the cost of carbon taxes onto consumers, if it encourages people to adopt electric cars and heat pumps. Taxes also encourage tax-avoidance measures, such as adoption of electric cars and heat pumps. The truth is taxes and tarrifs can bring in revenue and drive change, and not be as painful as they might appear on surface.

Manorkill

NY 990V running along the Manorkill in southern Schoharie County.

Well, sock it to me probably. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ

With my extreme mental illness, I think I will ride my mountain bike to work and get soaked on the evening commute, but whatever. It beats paying the woke bus company which soon is canceling my route because I never ride it, or for that matter driving my big jacked up truck  to work.

Much too soon if I don’t want to ride to work my choices will be the local yokel bus or driving said big jacked up truck to work. ๐Ÿš And the local yokel bus doesn’t work well with the shuttle so it’s more time wasted, at least in a sane individuals mind but if it’s shit outside and I can’t ride, it’s an opportunity to walk laps ๐Ÿšถ in the Concourse and get yelled at by the persons with homelessness or whatever the term of the day for the bums is.  But that’s the future.

Buy, buy see you in September. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ I plan to pronounce, I mean ask my big boss if I can just start not coming to work starting next Wednesday through September for summer vacation this time. We have enough staff back in Data Services ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ and I think I haven’t broken any computers or scripts lately, so it would be a good chance to finally get away to the Finger Lakes, have some fires ๐Ÿ”ฅ and smoke some grass ๐ŸŒพ and giggle ๐Ÿคญ, sling cow poop with my mountain bike ๐Ÿšฒ on the trails in National Forest ๐Ÿฎ and do some fishing. ๐ŸŽฃ I need to first renew my license though. And some swimming too in the gorges and pools.

And get bacon before heading out to the Finger Lakes. ๐Ÿฅ“ I have some bacon left but I probably will fry most of that up with zucchuni ๐Ÿ† if I go to Schoharie this weekend to swim ๐ŸŠ, float in the Schoharie Creek, โญ• and hit up Shauls which has been selling the good stuff for cheap ๐ŸŒฝ since 1710 according to what is painted on their signs. Back before ol’ Geo. Washington was president. Figure it’s going to be hot weekend, so it’s good to get to out Mine Kill one last time before summer is done. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Then Sunday, head home and start packing for the next 13 days in the Finger Lakes. Should be fun.

I am listening to Joel Salatin’s latest audio books, Your Successful Farm Business. ๐Ÿšœ I tell you all this listening and reading ๐Ÿ“– of farm and homesteading books, I feel like I’m learning a thing or two about business ๐Ÿข and not just the kind that involves a preg testing glove. ๐Ÿ„ ๐Ÿงค I was excited to hear Joel Salatin narrates the book like only a Joel Salatin can do with his farmer accent and sense of manure laden humor. ๐Ÿ– I swear ๐Ÿคฌ you spend all your time standing out in field and dealing with stubborn livestock you get a good sense of humor on life. He might as the lunatic farmer be woke in his sales tactics but he has a lot of good ideas for managing land and livestock both sustainably and profitably. ๐Ÿ’ฐ

Composting bucket works great in the kitchen. ๐Ÿชฃ๐ŸŽ I really needed the added capacity for food waste with all those corn ๐ŸŒฝ cobs in the summer and soon the squash I’ll be cooking. ๐Ÿ† Plus it’s so easy to drop in a 5 gallon bucket on the floor. I also use a bucket for recycling though I’ve not bought anything in metal or glass in weeks ๐Ÿฅซ except beer which I don’t normally drink ๐Ÿป at home so that bucket has been empty except for a few flattened burnt out cans from up at camp.

Your everlasting summer you can see it fading fast ๐ŸŒ‡

As that awful Steely Dan song goes, that decades ago said wasn’t real oldies because it was released less then 10 years before I was born.

Evenings really get short quickly when you get to the second half of August. But it was good walking in the Pine Bush even if didn’t repeat my points at the meeting last night.

Every time I go for walk in the Pine Bush ๐ŸŒฒ and listen to the roar of cars it really fucks with my sleep. ๐Ÿ›๏ธ All that commericialism, the traffic, the garbage dump. Didn’t help that at 5:30 AM I had to get up to get the pot of beans on the stove, and they’re still not done. ๐Ÿฒ I need to get in the shower so I’m not in too late. I do regret not speaking ๐Ÿ™Š up at the meeting last night, I should be more assertive but I did speak up. I threw the notes I wrote up in garbage, soon enough I’ll burn them up with the rest of packaging. ๐Ÿ”ฅ I used to separate out the paper, but it’s dumb, they got rid of free paper recycling, so it burns with the rest of crap up in woods. I can say I am not part of all that crazy car commuting world, the city dump, or that consumerism thing but I did drive to Pine Bush and Guilderland Town Hall in my creaky, big jacked up truck, and just because I burn shit to get rid of it doesn’t mean it goes away – it just blackens up and becomes smoke – and there is always things that don’t burn that some point I’ll have to take to dump. ๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ

Doesn’t look like a lot of rain this week, โ˜” it looks like fire risk is elevated in much of Vermont due to the lack of rain and parts of Western NY are in a drought, though mostly in the area around Niagara Falls. I am sure things will change for that last week when I’m summer vacation and it will be 13 days of rain. โ›ˆ๏ธ I guess if it looks truly wet, I could pack the propane heater. I do worry about hurricanes this time of year, though it’s been pretty quiet and it’s rare the Finger Lakes get that much hurricane ๐ŸŒ€ rains.

I should commit to leaving next Wednesday through Labor Day and actually take the time off for vacation, ๐Ÿ–๏ธ still it feels difficult to plan it out or even think of summer coming to it’s logical conclusion. Then it will be September and I’ll get LASIK and not have to deal with the irrated eyesย  ๐Ÿ‘€ anymore. I need to talk to the bank ๐Ÿฆ about seeing if I can get a credit limit boost so I can put it on my card for the rewards. ๐Ÿ’ณ Still need to figure out what I am going to do on summer vacation, besides reading in the hammock, fishing, swimming, kayaking. I’ve been fascinated by Big Flats and Mount Steige, and nature preserves out that way and checking out the deep, somewhat developed but also fertile agricultural valley. ๐Ÿ“ธ I also kind of want to poke around Elmira. And get down to Pennsylvania to seeย  redneck burn barrels, ๐Ÿ›ข๏ธ and maybe one other day ride more of the Pine Creek Gorge Trail. ๐Ÿšฒ I don’t know if I would start down in Blackwell and go farther south, or if I can would do that new section by Wellsboro. ๐Ÿฎ / ๐Ÿž๏ธ

I got my test results back from the doctor ๐Ÿงช and my salt levels were right at normal level and the triglycerides were slightly elevated. Probably all that damn beer ๐Ÿป I was drinking two weekends ago when I was up at Burnt-Rossman, all anxious and stressed out about the truck as I tried to get back and enjoy the normal life of travel again. I think what bothered me the most was that my triglycerides levels were right at the normal level and salt levels were slightly below normal last time, because of healthy eating. I put on six lbs compared to the year before. ๐Ÿคฐ Maybe it was the junk-food French toast I had my parents house that Monday before. And I have been adding more salt when cooking lately, ๐Ÿง‚though being that I don’t eat processed food, nothing contains added salt. I only eat fresh or frozen raw fruits and vegatables, and really the only time I ever eat meat is when I visit my parents or when I’m out. Other then that, it’s that occasional slice or half a slice of Mariaville Farm Bacon ๐Ÿฅ“ that I like with my zucchuni and other veggies fried up.
