I think future White House administrations could repurpose the ballroom as a parking garage, assuming the federal government could find the money to patch roof leaks to keep plaster from falling on the cars kind of like how RKO Movie Palaces were sometimes repurposed for indoor parking garages. After all, there is always a demand for more parking – go to any local government planning meeting and you’ll understand 99% of what government does is enforce parking minimums at drinking establishments and other businesses.
I left my bike in my office and are taking the early express bus and will walk in the Concourse and take the earlier shuttle over to the Starship.
I considered driving 🚘 in but I figured the express bus 🚍 ain’t that awful and it should be fine for riding home. The public hearings last night were as to be expected fighting to Save the Pine Bush. Figured it’s always good to walk 🚶 and get some exercise before work as I get yelled at by schizophrenic living in the Plaza. On Monday, riding past those ghetto housing through the South End some drug crazed black dude started yelling at me and charging at my bike but I just rode off.👊🏿 Kind of a werid situation though I don’t think I was ever in any kind of risk. I have made no decision about what to about commuting with the time change. 🕒 I guess ride my bike when I can then in the evening ride downtown and take the local home but that sucks. Cities have gone to such shit these days, Trump is not wrong about that though it is debatable about who is responsible. 🏙️
I’ve continued to ponder my weekends plans 🤷♂️ not sure what I will do as it’s difficult as the nights get dark so early and I don’t have any free extra time to take off at this point. 🏕️ I had such fun in the wilderness last week so it makes me think I should do another weekend before the snow 🌨️ and cold close off many options. I still want to do Madison County and probably the Erie Canalway between Utica and Rome as that’s the only section I’ve not done between Albany and Syracuse. 🚲 That said, I kind of like Stoney Pond and all the things one can do around the Caz. I figure enjoy Big Red 🛻 as long as I still can as I am well aware those days won’t last forever. Inflation and the craziness and the falling sound of the clock 🕒 hands seem to destroy everything. I can blame myself for voting for that shit head. Truth is that I miss the old days when things were simpler.
I am not super opposed to construction of a new attached grand ballroom to the White House, especially if it’s being paid for by donations and not the taxpayers. It seems like there is always an interest for new convention spaces and other public gathering locations, and hopefully future presidents will put it to good use for public meetings and events. It always seems kind of wasteful and temporary to have great state dinners and other formal events in a tent on White House Grounds when these events occur year after year and really should have a permanent home. It’s also not like the White House is a pristine building or no additions have occurred over the year – the complex is rather sprawling and unwieldy, and adding this extra needed space at no cost to the taxpayers makes a lot of sense in my mind.
I talk to people with families and homesteads and they often idolize my life of traveling, riding trail, camping and kayaking in state and national forests. How I do so much on my own, how I manage to get away and travel so much without a home, a family or livestock to look over.
I mean they’re not wrong but at the same time I do wish I had a place to call home, something more permanent than a moldy apartment and a two or three night stand in the wilderness. But I know what I would have to give up to have a place called home.
I mean it is but also these roads are rough riding on the mountain bike too. Sometimes you just got to drive and ride slowly on these rough as duck roads so you don’t break even more shit then absolutely necessary, especially out in the remote country.
I mean I totally could have driven my big jacked up truck to work, but I didn’t want to and it was a beautiful morning, and despite the threat of the weatherman with his radar images showing rain, which did come mid-day.
So yeah, it worked out well riding back and forth to work. 🚵 Didn’t have to deal with any of those woke cops with their radar guns either, or traffic fighting to get down past Eratsus Corning’s House on Southern Boulevard. Rode below that all on the bike trail. It actually was a beautiful autumn day yesterday, 🍁 sunny in the morning and more clouds in the evening ride but still excellent color. All which would have been wasted if I drove my big jacked up truck to work 🛻 and went to Walmart after work. That said, if I had done that my pantry would have been better stocked. 🍇
Stopped at Hannaford on the ride home, 🛒 got my ration of bananas, frozen fruit, onions, grapes, eggs, cornmealand milk. 🛒 Too much of it wrapped in plastic, soon enough to be bright yellow flames sto fascinated with stoned but don’t tell a liberal that No. 5 plastic recycling is a scam. 🔥 My bike was overloaded with all that groceries but I made it home with no eggs breaking. 🥚 Paper cartoon, so more green to pulp trees and throw them away compared to a small amount of styrene and carbon dioxide, but paper won’t burn as well if it gets wet. Truth is I like riding my bike, as it’s healthier 😀 though I admit it seems silly to ride around town when I put so many miles on my truck driving up through the Adirondack Wilderness, even if it wasn’t that far because I mostly rode around town.
Just another Monday, busy, busy, and not busy at time. 🖥️ Fun with SQL and R, building and comparing data frames and running queries and numbers. And some downtime too to update the blog and upload photos, maps and vacation memories. I want to post a bit more about campsites on Floodwood Road and Little Green Pond so people have a good reference. 🗺️ We se how things go today, you never know how busy things are. Pine Bush hearings again tonight, I’ll get a ride home with Lynne 🚙 and then bus it in on Wednesday. Mid-day tomorrow I’ll probably ride downtown to the Farmers Market 🍏 and visit the colleagues downtown.
I have a vague notion in my head that Vermont might be fun for the weekend, 🏕️ but I don’t know at this point, depends on the weather and I could use a quiet weekend close to home. I’ll see when it gets closer to the weekend, I have a lot of things I should do. Like some cleaning around the apartment and organizating things since vacation. But then again I did have a lot of fun on my week off and really didn’t spend that much money in wilderness, as I mostly drove up there, parked and rod everywhere on my bike. 🚲 So I don’t know.
