Wilcox Lake Wild Forest

Wilcox Lake Wild Forest is located in the southeastern part of the Central Adirondacks and is made up of approximately 140,000 acres of State Forest Preserve lands in Warren, Hamilton, Saratoga and Fulton Counties. Nearby communities include Stony Creek, Thurman, Bakers Mills, Day, Wells, Hope Falls, and Northville.

Wilcox Lake Wild Forest is bounded on the north by NY 8, on the east by the Hudson River, on the south by the Adirondack Park Blue Line, and on the west by NY 30. This wild forest offers many recreational opportunities, including hiking to the fire tower on Hadley Mountain, camping on Wilcox Lake, and ice fishing on Garnet Lake. With over forty-five miles of marked trails available, there are countless opportunities for hiking, skiing, and snowmobiling in the unit.

Ross Mountain

On the state land along the east side, there are several clearings where there once where extra campsites developed. These areas, besides the section where the road runs right on the edge of the lake, gives you a good view of Ross Mountain, and just out of the frame, Mount Blue.

Soon All Green

I sure hope so. It takes a long time for things to really green up in the Adirondacks as it is colder up here then down in lower elevations.

Sacandaga River Below Auger Falls

I had never been down in the gorge below Auger Falls, well at least from the East Side (bushwhack from Forks Mountain Trail).

I had walked along the Scanadaga River from the west side up Old Route 8A (now a snowmobile trail) but never hiked down from the east side all the way from the gorge. While the views are better from the west side, but from the east side (via Griffin) you almost never run into up there.
