East Branch Sacandaga River

Stretching between Wevertown and Wells along NY 8, the East Branch of Sacandaga River offers a picturesque route hosting roadside campsites and trailheads to secluded spots. While proximity to a well-maintained state highway makes these campsites accessible during shoulder seasons and winter (with snow shovel), traffic noise can be a drawback. The river features noteworthy sites like Griffin Falls, Cod Pond, the captivating Stewart Creek, the ruins of Fox Lair Camp, the East Branch Trail leading to East Branch Falls, and scenic Eleventh Mountain. This scenic drive intertwines nature and exploration, inviting travelers to discover hidden gems along the East Branch of Sacandaga River.

It was a beautiful Saturday evening by the campfire on the East Branch of the Sacanadaga River, not too cold back when I made this video in November 2017.

Snowy Morning at East Branch

Snowy morning up at camp on the East Branch of Sacandaga River on November 24, 2019. Kind of pretty with the snow coming down but driving home was a slog.

Camping under a Full Moon on the East Branch

Once again this first weekend of December I camped on the East Branch of the Sacandaga River near Cod Pond. It was a nice night, but a bit cold and long, being that it's December.

Past Eleventh Mountain with Lots of Color

Driving past Eleventh Mountain with lots of color along NY 8, outside of Johnsburg, not that far from Gore Mountain. The color is pretty good in this area, at least from the last weekend, but further down along the East Branch of the Sacandaga River, there is less color.
