Piseco-Powley Road

Stretching from Stratford to Piseco, Piseco-Powley Road winds along the western edge of one of the last remaining old Adirondack dirt roads. Lined with venerable spruce trees, some nearly brushing against the road, it offers a glimpse of nature’s untouched beauty. The tranquil West Branch of the East Canada Creek intersects Powley Road at Powley Place. This spot is positioned 8 miles southwest of Piseco Outlet, where NY 10 crosses, and approximately 7.5 miles from the point Piseco-Powley Road branches off from NY 10. When approached from the south, Powley Place is found 10.5 miles northeast from Stratford via Piseco Road. Notably, this area hosts four campsites, forming part of the 22 designated camping spots along Piseco-Powley Road, enhancing the allure of this picturesque route.

Ferris Lake Road

NY DEC maintains 4/10th of a mile of Ferris Lake Road, which is a dead end without a turn around -- as the sign says. I was hoping to hike it to the end, then bushwack around Camp Watagah, but the rain made the creeks too flooded to successfully bushwhack around this inholding.

Campsite Set Back Off the Road

Along Piseco-Powley Road there are no facilities at the campsites, simply places to pull off the road a little bit, to set up a tent or camp in your truck or RV or however you do it. Simple, but it works.

Rare Outhouse Along Campsite

The out house looked like it was in decent shape. This is surprising, as there are no other sites AFAIK with outhouses. This is disappointing, as outhouses help improve backcountry sanitation.

Another Designated Campsite

This one was quite large and located a ways off the road, with some privacy. This is rare for the campsites, which are mostly right on the road. Obviously, if your into tent camping, your free to get much farther off into the back country.

Designated Campsite Right on the Road

If you got really drunk, you could easily stumble out into oncoming traffic, if you where unlucky enough to see a passing car at night. Not very likely though, as this 12-mile dirt road is rarely traveled.
