Altamont is a nice to bike through and around
Reminds me of some of the Appalachian Mountain towns in the hollars but much more swanky. As is Altamont Road – NY 157 below the escarpment. Decent shoulders though a bit rough in a few places, very scenic.
Only real hill on trip was NY 146 heading into Altamont and even that isn’t too bad but what do I know I ride the State Street Hill regularly, well up Warren Street and Park Street not Madison these days but it’s still the same climb. The rest was generally flat or gentle grades, like going out past the Industrial Depot.
Anything that reminds me a bit of Appalachia puts a smile on my face. It was a great trip, around 32 miles round trip.
Made it to the weekend, today should be nice, tomorrow who knows 🤷♂️
Maybe nice is an exaggeration but it will be mild by mid December standards but fairly cloudy. I think it will be a good day to ride and stay close to home, at least not drive anywhere. Tomorrow I can shop I figure before going out to the folks house in the driving rain.

Made a nice breakfast cake up with oatmeal, cranberries, bananas and pineapple 🍍. Drank a lot of coffee ☕ but I’m good as I’m not planning an ambitious day though later on as it warms up I’m thinking about a bike 🚲 ride out to Voorheesville and maybe later on to French’s Mills or Altamont. There is a lot of places I haven’t explored on my bicycle around and even some local preserves that I can’t be bothered to drive to but are within biking range.

I won’t say it will be a banner weekend ☔ especially as the rain comes tomorrow but I’ll make the best of it. I decided against the Salvation Army this weekend, it’s a bit of a drive and I am okay 👌 on clothes truth be told and I don’t love riding the sand trails in the Pine Bush that much. 🌲🌲 I kind of want to get to Indian Ladder Farms for some apples 🍏. I’d prefer Altamont Orchards but that’s a pretty long bike ride. Maybe I’ll just wait to I get groceries tomorrow. 🖥 Kind of want to get to the library to use the Wi-Fi too this afternoon. 📶

Finally finished that course on Categorizing and Classification of Data Using Machine Learning in R. 🤖 OK course, but I’ve wish they explained the pros and cons of the different methods better but I’ve previously read up on that. 🧑🏫 I’ll probably eventually study a Python course on the same topic but first I’m studying Artificial Neural Networks for Business Managers in R Studio. I can’t complain too much, all these classes are free with my Bethlehem Public Library card 📚 unlike many who pay for them. I doubt the instruction quality, at least of this last class would be something I’d pay for. But I still learned how to do a lot of it in R that I previously only knew concepts but not the R packages and code to implement.
Maybe I should cut back on the turmeric. That 6.2 oz bottle I bought last Sunday is third eaten already. 🧂 My teeth could yellow and folks think I’m a smoker, lol. That said I shouldn’t have to worry much about tooth plaque or gingivitis. 🦷I just like my food yellow and tasty plus I never have any aches anymore despite climbing all the those stairs and riding all those miles. There are days when every meal 🍴 involves tumeric starting with the fried onions and eggs 🍳 in the morning.

Trying to keep costs down this weekend as after my credit card 💳 bill is paid I’ll only have $350 left in my bank account to tide my over until I get paid the following work week. 💸 Heck of it is looking at my second to last paystub of the year I made more then I expected? So much money is going out the door 🚪 to retirement and investing plus inflation keeps taking a bigger chunk each time I shop for groceries. 🏪 I’m hopeful with my new job next year I’ll make a little more money but with inflation that doesn’t go the way it once would have. I think 🤔 I’ll do good work in the new job despite my fear 😱 of messing up 💣 and the inconvenience of transferring buses 🚍 to get there days I can’t mountain bike it. Plus I’m making like $75 a month in ad revenue on the blog.

I had no issues but things were kind of slick on the way home to and from the bus stop on heavy braking and more of a concern what how much road salt got on my bike riding on the front of the bus coming home last night. I guess I didn’t expect the snow to continue on and off all day yesterday and the roads to be wet and slushy come evening commute. That said it’s not going to be much longer I’m riding to work until it’s lighter in the evening and the bike trail is snow free.

Ridden to work all five days this week. 🚲 Not too bad, a few days had to use some due care and the front break is squeaking a bit from the road salt. I should wash and grease the bike good this week. Only the ride in due to darkness in the evening, but that’s fine. Only a few more weeks, as I’m afraid January will be too cold or snowy, plus the issue of taking the shuttle with my bike on it, although I could instead use CDTA. Come the spring though, I expect except on rainy days I’ll be riding in each day. 😀 An no more State Street Hill but a longer ride.

In 1963, Pan Am Flight 214, a Boeing 707, is struck by lightning and crashes near Elkton, Maryland, killing all 81 people on board. 🌩✈️ As the flight approached Philadelphia, the pilots made radio contact with air traffic control near Philadelphia at 8:42 pm. The controller informed the pilots that the airport was experiencing a line of thunderstorms in the vicinity, accompanied by strong winds and turbulence. The controller asked whether the pilots wanted to proceed directly to the airport or to enter a holding pattern to wait for the storm to pass. The crew elected to remain at 5,000 feet (1,500 m) in a holding pattern with five other aircraft. The controller told the pilots that the delay would last about 30 minutes. At 8:58 pm, the aircraft exploded.[6] The pilots were able to transmit a final message: “MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY. Clipper 214 out of control. Saturday plans are to be decided. 💭 I am of two minds. I would like to get the Salvation Army to look at clothes but I also don’t want to get a bunch of salt on my truck or have to gas it up. ⛽ Then do some riding on my mountain bike in the Albany Pine Bush and get groceries. 🛒 But I guess I’m okay with clothes for now, though I’d like to get some dressy stuff for wearing come January that fits well. 👔 Often I can find good things now that I’m so much slimmer. On the other hand, I could stay home, go for a nice long bike ride, maybe make some soup and then be home before dark and do more of the Udemy Machine Learning Course.

I pray and wish people would take a step back and work for peace as we continue through the holiday season. There is no need for war or hatred, we have our own beliefs but we should keep them to ourselves and not try to force them on others. We should try to find peace and serenity in our own lives, celebrate our own religions and come together with our family during the holiday season.
