Rattlesnake Hill WMA

The Rattlesnake Hill Wildlife Management Area is a 5,100 acre upland tract, situated approximately eight miles west of Dansville, New York. Roughly two-thirds of the area lies in southern Livingston County, while the remaining third lies in northern Allegany County. The tract was purchased in the 1930’s under the Federal Resettlement Administration and is one of several such areas turned over to DEC for development as a wildlife management area.

The area is appropriately named after the Timber Rattlesnake, which may be occasionally found in the more remote sections of the “Hill”.

The area offers an interesting blend of upland habitats such as mature woodland, overgrown fields, conifer plantations, old growth apple orchards and open meadows.

The area is inhabited by a variety of game species and is open to public hunting. The white-tailed deer, wild turkey, ruffed grouse, grey squirrel, cottontail rabbit and woodcock are found on the area. An occasional snowshoe hare may be observed adjacent to thick creek bottom brush or conifer plantation habitats.

A number of small marsh units have been developed and provide limited hunting for waterfowl. Some of the area’s furbearing species such as mink, beaver and raccoon may be occasionally viewed at these marsh units.

Carrot ๐Ÿฅ• pancakes ๐Ÿฅž are good way to start a morning

Last night it was Johnny Cakes with onions and spinach and a bunch of Ms Dash salt-free seasonings, this morning its carrot pancakes with cherries and maple syrup. Salt is bad news, I am trying to stay away from it more these days.

Good morning! What day is it? Jumping the Hump Day, of course. Mostly sunny โ˜€ and 32 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. Cold start to the morning but it’s not expected to last.

While it got cool last night and I had to close my windows ๐Ÿ˜ด which made sleeping a bit hard but they’re back open this morning. Should be a beautiful day for riding to work today ๐Ÿšฒ and it shouldn’t be as dang windy as yesterday. ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ That wind was pushing hard against my face yesterday riding out of the gorge especially when I reached the level in Elsmere.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 68 degrees at 4pm. 24 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 4th. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had light rain. The high last year was 43 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 2012. 22.0 inches of snow fell back in 1993.โ„

I do like my carrot pancakes ๐Ÿฅž. Carrots are healthy and relatively cheap. It’s hard to get enough fiber in your diet, especially in America these days. Carrots when cooked are slightly sweet and excellent filler as part of hardy but soft pancakes. ๐Ÿฅ• I grind oatmeal and then carrots in my food processor. Add one egg and milk. Add Baking powder. Add cinnamon, ginger and sometimes vanilla. ๐Ÿ˜‹ For sweetness I’ll sometimes add a whole orange, peel and all or a banana. Then a little bit of whole red wheat flour and some water to smooth out the mixture. Top with fruit, honey or real maple syrup. ๐Ÿฏ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:06 pm with sun having an altitude of 44.7° from the due south horizon (-26.1° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:23 pm with the sun in the west (261°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (267°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:00 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:27 pm, which is one minute and 11 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-southwest (255°) at an altitude of 40° from the horizon, 230,863 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:01 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 63 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 5 mph. Tomorrow will have 11 hours and 56 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 55 seconds over today.

I have my dental cleaning on Friday ๐Ÿชฅ๐Ÿฆท so I’ll probably end up driving to work that day. If it wasn’t like most of the roads are closed and possibly snow covered I’d consider going to the Green Mountains to camp after work. โ›บ I really could use a good fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ to burn up some paper and things and to clear my mind. If I stay in town I’m thinking of cruising some roads in Coeymans and New Baltimore looking at land. ๐Ÿž Some places down there might fit what I’m looking for based on my geospatial analysis.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ , with a low of 40 degrees at 6am. 15 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 22nd. South wind 3 to 5 mph. In 2023, we had light rain in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of -6 occurred back in 1948.

I am thinking about bringing my laptop home tonight ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ป so I can continue to do some more research about land and property. That said, it’s going to be such a nice evening, I almost want to go to the park instead. ๐Ÿž Maybe tomorrow I’ll bring it home. I don’t like to ride too much with my laptop on my bicycle due to the bumps, but I could bring it home tomorrow, work down at the library ๐Ÿ“š and then I’m driving in on Friday it seems most likely after my dental cleaning.

Today in 1991, the Justice Department announces that Exxon has agreed to pay $1 billion for the clean-up of the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska. ๐Ÿ›ข Dawn dish soap made out well by donating some surfactants to clean off the oil soaked ducks ๐Ÿฆ†.

Looks like a fairly nice spring weekend though showers come Sunday. ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธSaturday, partly sunny, with a high near 53. Sunday, showers likely after 8am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 54. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Typical average high for the weekend is 45 degrees. Maybe I’ll head out of town but I’m more thinking ๐Ÿ’ญ about it for the Easter Holiday. ๐Ÿฐ

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until 8 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 7:33 pm. On that day in 2023, we had sunny skies and temperatures between 67 and 30 degrees. Kind of like today. Typically, the high temperature is 57 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 1922. Before my time. But certainly the weather records for this time of year is littered with examples of temperatures in the upper 80s.

Nice early spring day

Going to be a nice late winter Tuesday with ample sun but the wind sticks around โ˜€

At least I have power this morning and it’s not like I’m showering in the pitch black like yesterday. The windows are open as I like the fresh air, even if it’s cold out. Plus I burnt some crap on the stove this morning and it was a smoking.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Sunny and 34 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒž There is a west breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 5 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Going to be such a nice day I plan to leave early ๐Ÿšฒ and ride in via the longer way using the Menands exit off the Mohawk Hudson Bike Trail. Mornings are dark currently with the time change but we gain back that daylight quickly. ๐Ÿ’ก Things are much brighter this morning though with the power back on. ๐Ÿ”Œ

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 59 degrees at 4pm. 15 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 14th. Northwest wind 7 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Less windy though then yesterday. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 46 degrees. The record high of 69 was set in 2012. 30.4 inches of snow fell back in 1888.โ„ That’s a lot of snow. But then again, last week if it had been colder and not an El Nino year, we probably would have gotten a ton of snow.

It was great being able to ride home, with the extra hour of sunlight. ๐ŸŒ† We’ve gained a lot of time in evening in recent weeks, but the time change โฒ really was a game changer in the evening when it comes to sunlight. If it wasn’t so dang cold and windy last night, I would have totally enjoyed an evening walk in the daylight, or maybe even going down to the park.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:06 pm with sun having an altitude of 44.3° from the due south horizon (-26.5° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:22 pm with the sun in the west (260°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (267°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:59 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 7:26 pm, which is one minute and 11 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west (260°) at an altitude of 28° from the horizon, 228,842 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:00 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 50 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 9 mph. Tomorrow will have 11 hours and 53 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over today.

I am continuing to read, How to plan, contract, and build your own home. ๐Ÿ  I am not super interested in the section about what people want in the latest big suburbanite home, but I am quite interested in the permitting and contracting section, along with learning some of the basics of building construction. ๐Ÿ‘ท‍โ™€๏ธ While there are experts out there you can hire to swing a hammer, I want to make sure I’m getting a fair deal, ๐Ÿค that things will get signed off by town officials โœ… and that I’m able to build and live the way I want. I may have to pass up on a parcel or two that I love because I’m taking my time, โค๏ธ or pay a few months extra in rent, but I want to do what will work well for the next 20 years of my life through retirement and maybe beyond.

Tonight will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a low of 35 degrees at 3am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 10th. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the evening. I can probably leave at least some of the windows open tonight. In 2023, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 33 degrees. The record low of -6 occurred back in 1885.

Today in 1933, was the first of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s fireside chats. ๐Ÿ“ป He really mastered the communication methods of the time when he was running for president. A lot of homes had radios by the thirties. It’s funny though I listen to a fair bit of audio and even radio programs these days it’s either streaming or podcasts. Radio is still good when you are in the Adirondacks though without cell phone reception ๐Ÿ“ถ but there are a fewer and fewer places like that.

Weekend will be mild but it’s sliding in the wrong direction. ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 51. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 53. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Typical average high for the weekend is 45 degrees.

Looking ahead, next Tuesday is Last Day of Winter ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 7:08 pm with dusk at 7:35 pm. On that day in 2023, we had partly sunny, snow showers and temperatures between 33 and 22 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 46 degrees. We hit a record high of 78 back in 2012. I’m not sad about that but I bet March is going to end colder then certainly 2012.

Cattails

The wind is roaring and the lights are out ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ

I’m still going to ride my bike to work as I’m crazy, lol. I may not be in my wilder years, but I like riding and I wish I had that off grid property about now that I was searching for yesterday about now. Hopefully my shaving in the dark wasn’t that bad. Probably be doing that more when I own that land, lol.

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. And it’s dark with the time change and no electricity. Mostly cloudy and 34 degrees in Delmar, the land without power, says the boy researching property for an off grid homestead. โ˜ Breezy, ๏ธ25 mph breeze from the northwest ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 46 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. The current wind chill is 21. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 8 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

I was up at 5 AM which was good because the power was out at 6:45 AM. ๐Ÿ”Œ  Fiber-rich carrot and oatmeal pancakes for breakfast today. ๐Ÿฅž My breakfast was done and I was getting ready to shower, ๐Ÿšฟ when the power went out, so I ended up showering and shaving ๐Ÿช’ in the dark. Fun times!

So yes, definately riding in this morning. ๐Ÿšฒ It’s windy as all get out, and probably will be cool riding alng Erie Boulevard, but surprisingly much of the commute isn’t bad as the deep gorge helps protect it the trail from cross winds. ๐ŸŒฌ Heck, I might even ride home, but it depends on how windy things are come the evening. Going to be sunny later on, and now with the time change, we have sunlight until 7:30 PM, well at least some daylight. Won’t be rushing against darkness tonight, which is great. ๐Ÿ˜€

Today will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny โ˜, with a high of 40 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 2nd. Windy, with a northwest wind 25 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 49 mph. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 41 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 1977. 4.1 inches of snow fell back in 1941.โ„

Yesterday was nice seeing the folks, ๐Ÿ‘ช and cruising the back roads looking at property, ๐Ÿ›ป though some of the roads were quite muddy and one of the properties I wanted to check out is up a “currently” seasonal use only road, and was impassible as there was a few inches of snow in Berne, and with the mud I wasn’t going to get stuck. ๐Ÿ I am most interested in imperfect property, as it’s likely more affordable and with the good ol’ boy neighbors ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐ŸŒพ which I think would be most compatible with my way of living. I kind of really like the idea of living on a dirt road, though maybe in the winter and mud season I’ll have second thoughts, lol.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:06 pm with sun having an altitude of 43.9° from the due south horizon (-26.9° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:20 pm with the sun in the west (260°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (266°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:58 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:25 pm, which is one minute and 11 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west (263°) at an altitude of 15° from the horizon, 227,362 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:59 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 39 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 28. โ˜ƒ๏ธBlustery, ๐ŸŒฌ with a stiff breeze at 26 mph the northwest with gusts up to 44mph. Today will have 11 hours and 47 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

It will be nice having daylight in the evening. ๐Ÿž Probably too cold to go to the park after work but if the wind isn’t that bad I’ll try to ride home. But it will be nice having daylight in the evening, for a walk or even just doing some reading. ๐Ÿ“š Sure, it’s not truly spring time yet, and 7:30 PM dusk is still pretty early but you have to work with what you have.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 32 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 2nd. Breezy, with a northwest wind 16 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. In 2023, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 21 degrees. The record low of -12 occurred back in 1948.

Today in 1993, Janet Reno is confirmed by the United States Senate and sworn in the next day, becoming the first female Attorney General of the United States. โš– She was kind of a jerk but many people who get appointed to that job kind of are, even though Ramsey Clark was awesome in his later years.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 54. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 52. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Typical average high for the weekend is 45 degrees. Maybe I can finally get out camping this weekend. I guess it depends. If not, I do want to either poke around Coeymans and New Baltimore in search of land and properties, or maybe Rensslear County. It would be fun to do some hiking and camping with such an adventure. ๐Ÿƒ‍โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿ• ๐Ÿ›ป

Looking ahead, there are 3 weeks until April Fools Day ๐Ÿคก when the sun will be setting at 7:23 pm with dusk at 7:50 pm. Trout season opener. ๐ŸŽฃ On that day in 2023, we had rain and temperatures between 74 and 41 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 52 degrees. We hit a record high of 77 back in 1986.

A Pleasant Valley Sunday …

See Mrs. Gray, she’s proud today
Because her roses are in bloom
And Mr. Green, he’s so serene
He’s got a TV in every room

Another pleasant valley Sunday
Here in status symbol land
Millions complain about how hard life is
And the kids just don’t understand

Creature comfort goals, they only numb my soul
And make it hard for me to see
All thoughts all seem to stray to places far away
I need a change of scenery

๐Ÿ“บ๏ธ๐ŸŒน๐Ÿ”

The rain is expected to stop this morning on the time change … ๐Ÿ•‘๏ธ๐ŸŒง๏ธ

… dot, dot, dot. And then later possibly turn to snow before clearing out. Winter wants to remind us it’s still a thing, even though most of new week will be in the fifties and sixties, with the bite of winter not having much left due to El Nino and climate change.

Good morning! Rain showers are ending, around 36 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a northwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 3 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ My windows have been closed all of last night and most of the evening, though the heat has been off but I used the heated blanket.

Kind of an usual Sunday, ๐Ÿ˜ต up early at 5 AM and showering soon ๐Ÿ›€ and then off to Wally World to get groceries and supplies. ๐Ÿ›’ Nothing to earth shocking. ๐Ÿ’ฃ๏ธ I mean, I did set my clocks ahead, so I really got up at 4 AM, but we won’t say that. Then I want to do a drive out to country,  ๐Ÿ„ look at some properties I have been thinking about and explore some back roads, ๐Ÿ›ป and then head out to the folks house fairly early for Sunday dinner. I’d like to get home by 7:30 PM tonight so I can avoid driving after if possible. I don’t mind is so much any more, since I’ve started to eat more carrots ๐Ÿฅ•, adjusted my headlights ๐Ÿ”ฆ and generally are more healthy, but why drive after dark if you can avoid it? Says the boy who is thinking about building an off-grid cabin out in the country, and seriously considering absurdly long commutes in the dark to do it. ๐Ÿคท‍โ™‚๏ธ I am probably totally nuts, ๐Ÿคช letting my mental illness and pyromania ๐Ÿ”ฅ get the best of me. But just think of the bonfires I could have if I lived out in the country. Or the warmth of the wood stove. I just love burning things. ๐Ÿงก ๐Ÿคฃ

Today will have a chance of rain, mainly before 8am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 45 degrees at 1pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 15th. West wind 7 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 44 degrees. The record high of 72 was set in 1977. 5.7 inches of snow fell back in 1964.โ„

Last night I baked bread ๐Ÿž and made a big pot of red lentil soup. ๐Ÿฒ Also I cooked up a acorn squash that I will be enjoying most of this week. The bread is carrot bread with lots of shredded carrots. ๐Ÿฅ• The red lentil soup contains peas, shredded carrots and lots of turmeric and spices. ๐Ÿง‚ I had been cutting back on carrots, as they can be a bit excessive on the fiber side thing, but I saw that had been piling up in the refrigerator, and didn’t want them to go waste and they are healthy. Not as sweet as they are some times, but they do make bread so moist and delicious. Eggs for breakfast today. ๐Ÿ“ My pantry is getting a bit bare now.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:06 pm with sun having an altitude of 43.5° from the due south horizon (-27.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:19 pm with the sun in the west (259°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (266°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:57 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 7:24 pm, which is one minute and 11 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west (266°) at an altitude of 2° from the horizon, 226,500 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:58 pm. At sunset, look for snow ๐ŸŒจ and temperatures around 39 degrees. Breezy, 18 mph breeze โ›… from the west-northwest with gusts up to 36mph. Tomorrow will have 11 hours and 47 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over today.

I was thinking today marks the four years since the pandemic shit got real. ๐Ÿ˜ท While at this point wearing muzzles didn’t become standard fare yet, it was the evening when we all got the news that things were shutting down ๐Ÿ“‚ and that we’d all be working remote for the next year or two. Of course none of that was known, we were promised four or six weeks of isolation, and it wasn’t fun not having Internet at home at first, but I got good working out of ol’ Big Red ๐Ÿ›ป down at the parking lot of public library, ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ป at least on warm and sunny days, โ˜€๏ธ at least those days it wasn’t so hot. And in many cases, working remote from the Adirondacks was a lot of fun, camping ๐Ÿ• and hanging out at the Speculator Library doing Zooms when the internet wasn’t flakey due too many people being on it. Time goes by so fast, I mean it’s was only a year ago when using the word shit became something you could use in a country song and polite conversation. ๐Ÿ’ฉ It’s good, we all do it, and makes crops grow. ๐ŸŒฑ And I do it a lot with all the fiber I eat. ๐Ÿฅฆ

Tonight will have a chance of snow showers, mainly between 7pm and 5am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 32 degrees at 4am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 2nd. Breezy, with a northwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. In 2023, we had light rain in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of -10 occurred back in 1939.

Getting up at 5 AM this morning, ๐Ÿ›Œ I expect to be super tired by evening. But the plan is to get to bed early, and keep getting up each morning early. I have best thoughts, and most interest in reading and learning in the early mornings. ๐Ÿ“š Yes, it’s going to be dark in mornings for the next few weeks, but with earth wobble ๐ŸŒŽ and changing of seasons meaning the fastest growth of daylight ๐ŸŒ„ we actually pick up daylight in the morning quickly this time of year.

Today in 1969, in Memphis, Tennessee, James Earl Ray pleads guilty to assassinating Martin Luther King, Jr. ๐Ÿ› He later unsuccessfully attempts to recant. Didn’t help that the FBI had a very active role in trying to kill King, and while they didn’t pull the trigger, they certainly didn’t offer him any protection and actively harassed him until his death. ๐Ÿ‘ฎ‍โ™€๏ธ The FBI, especially ol’ J. Edgar Hoover, was convinced that MLK was a bad news, a dangerous radical. That said, I am not at all convinced that J. Edgar Hoover wasn’t a closeted homosexual with multiple prominent men who took his aggression and insecurities out on the new left. ๐Ÿ‘ฌ He certainly was close to Paul Harvey, another character who you had to have a lot of questions about. People should be honest who they are, and not give a duck what others think of them. โœŠ  And not take out their own insecurities on others, especially if they person of power like J. Edgar Hoover. ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ It’s funny how us mentally ill people take out own problems on others.

Looking ahead, next Sunday is St. Patrick’s Day ๐Ÿ€ when the sun will be setting at 7:06 pm with dusk at 7:32 pm. Which means the drunks will be on the roads next weekend, as will the cops trying to catch them. ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘ฎ St. Patricks Day is far more dangerous then the time change for deadly crashes. ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’ฅ๐Ÿš™  People make such a big deal out of  the time change, ๐Ÿ•“ but it’s the beer that kills. And summer is by far most deadly time on the road — more driving, more beers, less cares. On Saint Patricks’ Day 2023, we had rain showers, cloudy and temperatures between 47 and 32 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 45 degrees. We hit a record high of 75 back in 1990.

A gray and soon to be wet Saturday โ˜”

No rain yet, but it’s coming. Maybe snow by Sunday but I have my doubts. Tomorrow I decided I want to explore a few of the places on my list of potential properties, to see how they look from the road after the rain. And how muddy and rough the roads really are. Plus I like a good drive in the country, it gives me a chance to spot abandoned houses and properties that might be a potential option.

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! Cloudy and 40 degrees in Delmar. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 14 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 11 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Riding out to Five Rivers this morning. ๐Ÿฆ I heard the red-winged black birds are back for the spring time. I haven’t heard the spring peepers ๐Ÿธ but others have reported that they are around, now that ice is off most of the lakes. Ride out along Meads Lane and say hi to the ladies, I mean the cows. ๐Ÿฎ

Making red lentil soup with lots of carrots and split peas for lunch. ๐Ÿฒ Should be a delicious, warm meal. I have a feeling with the rain and relatively cool temperatures, it will be a cool afternoon. Plus the wind. Then I might go down to the library to work on a few things on my laptop ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ป before heading home, and doing some reading and watching videos on my phone. ๐Ÿ“š

Today will rain, mainly after 2pm. ๐ŸŒง High of 43 degrees at 11am. Typical for today. Southeast wind 14 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 43 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 2016. 6.9 inches of snow fell back in 1961.โ„

Yesterday was a great day ๐Ÿšฒ enjoyable both for riding in and out of work. ๐Ÿ˜Ž It was so nice yesterday, it was kind of punishment to be in my office all day long. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ผ At least I had a nice lunch break riding around the Warehouse District and North Albany, along with a ride both ways. Figure do my riding early before the ran really settles in later on.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:07 pm with sun having an altitude of 43.1° from the due south horizon (-27.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:18 pm with the sun in the west (259°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (265°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:56 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 6:23 pm, which is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:56 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 40 degrees. Breezy, 16 mph breeze โ›… from the southeast. Today will have 11 hours and 41 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

Started to look at businesses and contractors that build cabins locally both prefab and stick frame. ๐Ÿ›– There is definitely options out there, people who you can pay to do quality work โš’ and follow the state building code and keep the government workers happy. I also talked to one of my relatives about what kind of professional I need to analyze my tax situation as it relates to getting a mortgage vs paying with cash, ๐Ÿ’ฐand she says I need to find a CPA ๐Ÿงพwho really knows state tax law to review my finances โš–๏ธ to get me the hard numbers ๐Ÿงฎ I need for a good decision.

My preference is cash but if that means giving the government a shit ton of extra money then I’ll reconsider. Capital gains tax is a bitch ๐Ÿฉ and you can deduct mortgage interest payments from your income. I could live with a construction ๐Ÿšง or land loan ๐Ÿฎ especially as I’m currently paying rent but won’t when I move. Honestly I’m not into pretty, rather spend more on land and look at plywood or unfinished plaster board for a while before I finish it. Plastic tubs work fine instead of cabinets. I’m taking it slow but I don’t want to lose progress.

One of the things I started to do was screenshot ๐Ÿ“ธ cabins and save pictures of set ups I really like size and property wise. Besides drawing, if I have a clipping book of my favorites — that I can print up — I can better show to people what my vision is for the property. I really don’t want fancy, I don’t want plastic, I want something basic, livable, legal, with the priority being on having acerage. Maybe some grass for livestock but I want to avoid mowing as much as possible.

Tonight will rain before 5am, then rain likely, possibly mixed with snow. ๐ŸŒง Low of 35 degrees at 5am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 7th. Southeast wind 8 to 13 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. In 2023, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 20 degrees. The record low of 0 occurred back in 1996.

Today in 1959, Barbie doll makes its debut ๐Ÿšบ at the American International Toy Fair in New York.

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be 7:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ with dusk at 7:59 pm (Daylight Savings Time).
