Westerlo

January 10, 2016 Evening

Good evening. Currently mostly cloudy and 49 degrees in Westerlo. KInd of a dreary day, although those thunderstorms that came through around 3:30 PM were pretty intense. A pretty sunset and some rainbows came after that, which was nice. I didn’t get any photos of the rainbow but it was pretty driving out to my parents house for Sunday dinner.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly before 9pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24. West wind 10 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tonight we had a very slender waxing crescent moon, which has already set. With the clouds and rain, you didn’t missed much. Heading out in woods on this warm but damp night, you’ll want a flashlight. Monday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 29. West wind 14 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Spent some more time cleaning mildewΒ in my apartment but I think I got the last of it cleaned up. Things are starting to look pretty nice and clean in my kitchen. I do need to figure out if I can remove the rust or paint my refigerator, which is pretty darn rusty. Rather not do any more damage to my apartment, which is why I’m tempted to leave it as is.

Continuing to work on mapping and some coding for the blog.Β I will have some new content to post to the blog later in the week.Β Have a great evening!

November 16, 2015 update

Good morning. At the 9 o’clock hour we are at about 43 degrees as we quickly warm to 59 degrees later on this very sunny morning.

It’s already the second half of November. I don’t know where the month went so quickly. I am thinking of possibly doing my North Country trip this weekend depending on the forecast by midweek. Right now it doesn’t look bad but we might get an inch of snow up in North Country – which won’t stop me but will cause me to proceed with caution. I don’t want to get stuck or freeze up north.

Throughout the week I will posting maps of the local primaries to the blog. I mapped results for all the County Legislature Democratic primaries except for LD 1 & 3 in the city, races I know little about. I also did the county executive and the Bethlehem Highway Superintendent. I also did revised maps of several St. Lawrence County state forests. With the county election districts lines I feel as happy as a pig in shit. Because it’s damn fascinating to compare geography to voting patterns. People in neighboring EDs tend to be demographically similar and vote similarly. Candidates tend to get their neighbors or sometimes local issues play a role in elections.

It was a nice weekend but much too short. The hike in the Catskills was refreshing but those mountains are nothing like West Virginia. Still that hike made up for an extraordinarily boring Saturday whose highlights were making maps and walking 7 miles around the neighborhood.

November 16, 2015 morning

Good morning. The sun has risen this morning. 37 degrees this morning. Later, mostly sunny, with a high near 59. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 8 mph in the morning.

Tonight the sun will set at 4:31 PM and will be mostly clear, with a low around 30. North wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight. At 5:02 PM the twilight will conclude with a Waxing Crescent Moon setting at 9 PM.

While it may always feel like a Monday, the fact is the weather will be quite pleasant for mid-November.

November 15, 2015 night

At 10 pm its 45 degrees and cloudy. Later, mostly cloudy, with a low around 37. West wind around 6 mph.

Today was a pleasant day. Went hiking up Burnt Knob Mountain and the Acra Point loop. A nice afternoon hike, not too far away from home. Then had Sunday dinner at my parent’s house.

Tomorrow the nice weather continues. Mostly sunny, with a high near 54. Northwest wind 6 to 9 mph. The sun will rise tomorrow morning at 6:47 AM. Should be nice and bright for going into work.

Have a good night. Sleep well, a long work week is ahead.

September 28, 2015 morning

Good morning. Happy Monday. The work week comes back around on the calendar. The lunar eclipse has come and done it’s thing, the moon turned red then was fully restored by morning.

Currently 41 degrees and foggy. Today and Tuesday will be the warmest days of the week, looking for 78 degrees which is about 10 degrees above normal. Rain Tuesday evening into Wednesday, then cooler temperatures prevail with highs struggling to reach 60.

September 16, 2015 update

71 degrees and sunny as we head into the 11 o’clock hour. Going to be a nice day with a high of 83. Get out for lunch today if at all possible.

I am officially cleared from wearing the big sprain boot although I got a small ankle brace I was told I should wear as necessary. It sits inside the work boot and gives a little extra support. I’m clear to return to all normal activities but I should take it easy at first and build things up before I start climbing mountains – and wear the brace while doing anything that could hurt the ankle. I have an optional appointment in six weeks but I’m free to cancel as long as any final pain dissipates and my ankle is fully stable once again. I’m happy about that.

Tonight is the Save the Pine Bush Dinner and the speaker is going to talk about the controversial natural gas pipeline. Not exactly Pine Bush related but people wanted to hear about it. I will probably be busy in the kitchen washing dishes and prepping dinner like usual.

Looking to take off Friday and Monday for an extended weekend at Otter Creek, Independence River and Lowville area. I haven’t asked for the time off yet but the calendar looks like there is enough coverage at work. I was hesitant to take the time off until I had a final decision from my doctor. Should be a nice weekend with some good colors in higher elevations. I would love to paddle the Whetstone Reservoir which in fall should be so nice.
