September 15, 2015 update

As we head into the 9 o’clock hour we are at 56. Cool start to what is certain to be a pleasant day. Decided to go for the long sleeve look today.

Halfway through September, by now the Adirondacks in higher elevation should be turning color. I will start posting some fall pictures from previous years. The cooler nights of recent have started to give the trees locally a hint of color.

Requested the election district shapefile from Albany County as I am hoping to make some interesting Google Maps from the recent primary results. I just sent them an email but if I don’t hear back in a couple of days, I’ll put in a phone call or file a formal FOIL request with the County Clerk. I’m kind of interested in visualizing the County Executive race. I had friends on both sides of the primary.

Tomorrow I go to the doctor to follow up on my sprained ankle. It’s pretty much healed, I haven’t been wearing the sprain boot much lately but I’ve been real careful with uneven surfaces. But most of the strength is back and I’ve increasingly been going for walks around.

I haven’t decided yet if I will take off Thursday and Friday to go up to Lewis County. I checked and the office has sufficient staff so I can get those days off. The weather looks nice but I still have to wonder if it’s too early with my sprained ankle. I feel pretty good but at the same time I have a nagging feeling it’s not as strong as it once was. This is the last weekend I can get out  in September. I’ll make a decision by midday.

September 15, 2015 morning

Fifty degrees and clear this morning. Looking for a sunny and pleasant day around 78 degrees with a steady breeze and low humidity. If you thought this was a dark morning, you’re not alone. Sunrise today wasn’t until 6:34 AM. Days are getting shorter, only 12 1/2 hour of daylight today.

August 19, 2015 morning

Good morning, Happy Wednesday.
Right now it is 81 degrees and partly to mostly cloudy. Getting up to 88 degrees. The humidity is creeping up but in the shade with a fan, it’s pretty reasonable.

August 18, 2015 evening

Good evening on this hot and sticky evening. 75 degrees with a muggy dewpoint of 68. Hot and humid weather continues tommorow although the expected high temperature is a few degrees less than today. Temperatures will continue to drop a few more degrees throughout the remainder of the week with increasing chance of rain come Friday.

Thursday I will probably go back to work. The orthopedic doctor said I could go back to work tommorow in the office but I think I want to give my foot one more day to heal. I only have occasional pain but my sprained ankle is clumsy and slow, although the boot and crunches/hiking stick helps. Rather not do further damage, so taking it easy.

I can certainly go fishing this weekend but at this point it ain’t easy getting in or out of my jacked up truck. I walk as slow as the slowest senior but at least I can get around on both feet. The injuries aren’t permanent and should heal within a month and be able to fully get around by the time most of the hunting seasons open up. I guess I could hunt squirrels with the sprain boot on in early September but that could be a challenge.

August 18, 2015 midday

Good afternoon. It has reached 89 degrees in Delmar and is hazy, hot and humid. The humidity is expected to break tommorow and will be in the mid 70s for a high by midweek.

I’m quite excited that the orthopedic doctor looked at my foot and declared it just to be an ankle sprain based on the location of the injury. The broken toe bone was old, they think I must have broken it as a young kid. I don’t remember but I did a lot of stupid shit as a young kid. I have been limping around since the injury but at least I can once again put weight on the foot if I wear the big sprain boot they gave me.

Four weeks wearing the sprain boot I guess. But I can take it off at times and probably by Labor Day Weekend get out camping. Probably take the week off after the final check up and do some camping and hunting. I’ll miss the evening walks but at least I can get around and go back to work.
