John Boyd Thacher State Park, is situated along the Helderberg Escarpment, one of the richest fossil-bearing formations in the world. Even as it safeguards six miles of limestone cliff-face, rock-strewn slopes, woodland and open fields, the park provides a marvelous panorama of the Hudson-Mohawk Valleys and the Adirondack and Green Mountains. The park has volleyball courts, playgrounds, ball fields and numerous picnic areas with nine reservable shelters. Interpretive programs are offered year-round, including guided tours of the famous Indian Ladder Trail. There are over 25 additional miles of trails for summer hiking and mountain biking, and winter cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, and snowmobiling.
I was washing out the moldy remains of random glass bottles that I got stuck in the back of the refrigerator. Mostly because I was too lazy to wash them out for recycling, and I kind of forgot about them.
I really try my best to avoid buying things in glass, just because they are heavy, they break easily, and take up a lot of room in the recycling trash. To boot, recycling rates for glass remain very low, especially those collected in municipal programs, because glass often breaks and fragments especially in packer trucks, and is little more then shards when it gets to the recycling center, useful for little besides aggregate for building landfill roads.
If I get beer, I will get it in a can. Aluminum is very recyclable, light-weight and fairly durable. Easy to get rid of with the deposit. I try to get everything else in paper or plastic, as that can either be saved for recycled or burnt, and doesn’t take up a lot of weight. Plastic bottles can be compressed, smashed down, and don’t take up nearly the size or weight that glass does.
Glass might be good for crafts, but I still think it’s more of a pain then it’s worth when you get food packaged in metal or plastic, which is lighter and doesn’t break. Maybe you can use it as aggregate, and well separated glass can be recycled over and over again, although it’s difficult outside of bottle deposit and reuse programs for much clean, unbroken glass to be recovered. I could see using glass bottles for various projects when I have my own land, or just for shooting and then aggregate, but it’s still more of a headache when other packaging is available.
You look at satellite photo archives and its pretty obvious that is the truth. After several days of clouds and rain things green up. I don’t see any freezing weather coming up but it might be cool enough some days with the dampness that closing windows may be warranted but heating season is done. At least for me. Might though being the Big Buddy heater camping for rainy days and cold mornings through early June.

Good morning! What day is it? A Hump Day without a state budget, of course. π«
I actually woke up this morning for a bit around 2 am to check the Twitter. No budget but conventional wisdom of the people who still tweet is that they want it fine before the big party known as the Black and Latino caucus this weekend. Me, I just want it done so I can get out of town next week and do some fishing π£ and have a big fire π₯ with some cold beer π».
Cloudy βοΈand 42 degrees in Delmar, NY. β There is a north-northeast breeze at 5 mph. π. The skies will clear Friday around 5 pm.
Not sure how much rain β we will get today, π§there is a few drops as I’m out walking this morning. Mild enough I’m just wearing the vest with the worn out Don’t Tread on Me t-shirt that isn’t appropriate for wearing around in a progressive town like Delmar. π I’ll bring my umbrella like any good ol boy in a shirt and would do.
Yesterday got home a bit before six, had spaghetti π, worked on some bug fixes for the blog πand went for a walk down to the town park π. Been trying to fix issues with interactive maps crashing – still have issues with bad characters or connections to Arcgis services causing things to crash. Been trying to develop additional blog posts and pages on topics get a lot of search hits.
I have yet to take off Thursday and Friday of next week βΊ but that’s what I’m leaning towards once I get more certainty for my work schedule. π I won’t be able to stay at he same campsite more than three nights but I like to travel to different places and I’ll probably need ice and supplies. Next Friday is Good Friday so that’s usually a holiday. π°
Last night on the walk saw a rabbit π red winged black birdsand robins, geese, heard spring peepers πΈ and a deer grunting. Didn’t help that some random lady with a dog πΆ walked by.
Enjoy the sun β this morning as it’s not expected to last β
The rain and mild temperatures should help with the green up over the next week, especially in the lower elevations. I don’t care that much, I got to work in the office downtown but I’ll bring my umbrella tomorrow. Looks like next week will be quite mild.

Kind of clear but cold. Got cold enough for a pretty good frost last night. The air has the musk of skunk on it, the smell of love as trappers say.
Mostly sunny and 33 degrees in Delmar, NY. β Calm wind.
Slept unusually well last night π, didn’t wake until around 6:15. Usually I’m up around five 5β£ but I don’t get out of bed until six. Made my morning walk πΆ a few minutes late but I past the High School before the busiest traffic π₯.
Got home at around 6:15 last night π which wasn’t too bad. I had a relatively quick dinner π², reheating left overs from Sunday dinner a few weeks back and walked down to the park π.
While by the time I was heading home from the park the coyotes πΊ were howling by the farm on Van Dyke, the spring peepers πΈ were loud and I heard geeese honking π¦, my evening walk atthe town park was kind of a bust fit wildlife. Indeed about all I saw was a few red winged black birds and robins.
Not as cold this week but rain for the second half π¦οΈ
With temperatures for the most part expected to be above freezing, that means things should green up in the next week or two, especially with the rain expected. This year, April showers might not only mean rain but also green grass. Might not be a terrible weekend to head out of town, but the long-range suggests the following weekend, Easter weekend might even be nicer.

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. π¦
Yes it has. Second week of April, the grass is just starting to green up a bit. The mild, well seasonable weather plus rain most of the second half of the week should help a lot on that front.
Partly cloudy and 35 degrees in Delmar, NY. β There is a northwest breeze at 9 mph. π. The skies will clear around 7 am.
A bit of a cold and damp start to the morning. π But part of it is that I’m under dressed for the morning walk πΆ because I’ve decided it’s early April, it’s going to be fifty later and therefore can’t be cold out.
No ideas on what the work week will be like π’ but I’m leaning towards going to the store and maybe the car wash after work if I’m home by six 6β£. My pantry isn’t that bare but I’m missing a lot of random things. π₯
I am thinking about taking off the second half of next week to get out of town to do some fishing and hiking. βΊ Not sure where I will head, there are different options. I mean I don’t already have the time off yet. But maybe up north, I haven’t been back to the Adirondacks since September. I sure wish remote work π» was still a thing so I could extend things out a bit.
