John Boyd Thacher State Park, is situated along the Helderberg Escarpment, one of the richest fossil-bearing formations in the world. Even as it safeguards six miles of limestone cliff-face, rock-strewn slopes, woodland and open fields, the park provides a marvelous panorama of the Hudson-Mohawk Valleys and the Adirondack and Green Mountains. The park has volleyball courts, playgrounds, ball fields and numerous picnic areas with nine reservable shelters. Interpretive programs are offered year-round, including guided tours of the famous Indian Ladder Trail. There are over 25 additional miles of trails for summer hiking and mountain biking, and winter cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, and snowmobiling.
Final day of the heat wave, going to go out crashing with thunderstorms as a cold front comes through. Then more seasonableweather but warmingup as the week progresses.
Partly sunny and 70 degrees in Delmar, NY. β Calm wind. The dew point is 64 degrees.
Yesterday was hot, today is going to even hotter. π° Under more normal times I’d be out of town but I don’t want to go too far on that bad wheel bearing that’s getting fixed Monday.
The truth is that even with the ungodly heat β before seven AM it still is quite cool after seven hours of darkness. I’ve still doing my morning walks πΆ bright and early.
Yesterday though was just hot π₯. There is no other way to describe the weather. So hot that I found myself procrastinating going to the library as I didn’t want to get away from the fan. β I guess most heat waves I’m out of town or in the office π’ which is air conditioned. By the time I got to the library by 4 pm I just felt so drenched in sweat it wasn’t fun at all. Plus for some reason my eyes π were irritated after showering πΏ.
Today’s plans are similarly unambitious. π€£ Maybe I’m lazy but I know with temperatures heading up towards 100 degrees, without air conditioning, it’s going to be tough to stay cool. πβοΈ The library is closed today, I thought about visiting the town pool but I think there is going to be thunderstorms. I was thinking about visiting my parents, but they don’t have air conditioning either, and it sounds like they don’t even have a fan with the heat.
I guess ultimately it doesn’t matter that much. π Vacation is five days away. Not every day has to be super fun or exciting, and today it’s probably best to spend it lazily by the fan, maybe working on some various R code.
Sunny and hot. I’m jealous of those who are on vacation this week. But next weekend I will be and hopefully the trend will continue. The breeze should help, especially with record breaking hit possible on Sunday. I hope though we get some good thunderstorms on Sunday, as we still need rain, and it will help with breaking the heat.

First though a trip to the dentist and the auto repair shop. So an anxious day then a week to vacation.
Sunny and 67 degrees in Delmar, NY. π Calm wind. The dew point is 64 degrees.
Been going to bed π real early all week. I work late π’ – things have been super busy in the office – come home and have a light dinner. π Drink ice water π¦ and go to bed. Get up at five am when it’s still cool at six go out for a walk πΆ. Really it’s worked out so far this week.
The plan for today is to drop off the truck π» at the shop and then catch the bus π to the dentist. π¦· Then go work, maybe an hour late. I might leave work early to pick up the truck but I doubt the repairs will be done today so I probably won’t have the truck for the weekend but I don’t care that much because I wasn’t planning to head out of town the week before summer vacation. π‘
I am always anxious about dropping my truck off at the shop π§ because I really have so little control over the matter. I don’t know if the shop is good or bad though I’ve had good experience so far with it in recent years. I know whatever it is it will be expensive with inflation but in the context of a $1,000 a month car payment. I have estimated likely costs in my head – a median of what I think it is, a worse case scenario and a best. π But ultimately my goal is a trouble free vacation and remainder of the summer. I just hate having to drop my vehicle at the shop and not know what it’s going to be until that call.
Tomorrow is going to really hot β and Sunday even hotter π° possibly the hottest day in a long time and that’s something after the heat of Wednesday. Saturday I’ll probably stay home for a while by the fan and then go to the library in the afternoon to cool down and work on the internet. Sunday is more difficult to plan – I doubt I’ll have my truck – but maybe I can spend the day swimming π at the town pool. It’s like $6 or $7 but for a full day of refreshing cool it will be nice. Especially with what gas prices are these days. β½
It’s just going to be hot. π Ordinarily I would spend the weekend up at a cold swimming hole up north πβοΈ but I don’t think I’ll have my truck this weekend and Friday is summer vacation. I figure just stay hydrated, keep shades drawn, stay be the fan when I’m not swimming or at the library. Early to bed, early to rise. Next weekend is summer vacation – it will be hot too it appears but at a pool or gorge swimming π it never gets too hot. I want to camp in the shade, have lots of cold drinks, so I don’t mind the heat.
Some say as warm as 98 or 99 on Sunday, though today is expected to be the muggiest day of the heat wave with thunderstorms around. In contrast, by early next week the humidity should drop and the mercury to more seasonable levels but then hot again for the start of my summer vacation.

Less hot today, though that is a relative turn. Often late July into August is a sultry time of theyear and this is no exception.
Partly cloudy and 73 degrees in Delmar, NY. π₯ There is a south breeze at 6 mph. π. The dew point is 68 degrees. The muggy weather ends Monday around 6 pm. π
Yesterday was a hot day β though I missed the worse of it by going out walking πΆ early and then staying in the office π’ late and going to bed early. π Getting up at five am and walking at six you miss the worse of the heat.
Tomorrow Red is getting dropped off at the shop. π» Bracingmyself tofindout what is wrong with him though I think Steve does good work. I tell myself what’s the alternative? Throw the truck away or ignore the increasingly loud noise and have something break down on my vacation. π Dentist appointment too. Fun Friday ahead.
A little over a week from now βΊ I will be on my way to the Finger Lakes. I know I’ve been studying the long range forecast and the 8-14 day outlook, realizing that far out I might as well just look at the climatic averages as so much can change weather wise by then. Outlook does point to continued warm but maybe more rain. β I’m sure it will be dusty in the Finger Lakes.
Youtube Ad from the Donald Trump Campaign: Do you support Trump?
The answer is absolutely not. The guy has proven himself to be a complete buffoon, really not worthy of the presidency. Some people grow into the job, including celebrities and the alike. But the president has proven that he is unable to grow into the job and he’s hardly a reliable conservative to boot. His response to COVID-19 has been a disaster, his stance on the international stage has made our country a laughing stock. We need somebody who listens to scientists and experts for guidance, not somebody who is more interested in ideology then practical solutions to our problems.
If I get an unsolicited seed packet from China, I am going to find a new suburban subdivision under construction and plant it there.
Most invasive species like disturbed soils and got to make Edward Abbey proud. πΏ
This would be more fun than dropping cuttings of Japanese Knotweed next to recently poured foundations of suburbanites houses, as you have no idea what would happen with the mystery plants.
