John Boyd Thacher State Park, is situated along the Helderberg Escarpment, one of the richest fossil-bearing formations in the world. Even as it safeguards six miles of limestone cliff-face, rock-strewn slopes, woodland and open fields, the park provides a marvelous panorama of the Hudson-Mohawk Valleys and the Adirondack and Green Mountains. The park has volleyball courts, playgrounds, ball fields and numerous picnic areas with nine reservable shelters. Interpretive programs are offered year-round, including guided tours of the famous Indian Ladder Trail. There are over 25 additional miles of trails for summer hiking and mountain biking, and winter cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, and snowmobiling.

Cynthia Pooler of Focus on Albany fame 🎤 was going to have a fundraiser and recording sessio for her documentary on Reszin Adams but with the snow storm coming and the fact it’s all the way out in Colonie and no where near a bus stop 🚏makes me think that it’s best to mail ✉ a check. I am not really sure what to expect about the snow storm. ☔ It’s probably going to be an elevation storm but lately a lot of people are saying more snow. I still am considering camping for my 40th birthday 🎂 but Friday looks cold and there might be a ton of heavy wet snow to shovel out a parking 🅿 spot.

Nice morning today especially to the south 🌅, with lots of red. I was actually out walking 🚶 before 6:45 which is unusual for me on these dark mornings but it helped that I had the left over pancakes 🥞 and sausage and coffee ☕ from yesterday that I could just reheat. Fewer calories, time saved, and less trash – what’s not to like?
That said, I think I’m going to put a fruit bowl 🍐 🍏 in my office so mid-morning if I’m hungry or feeling a bit light headed I can have a bit to eat. One of the reasons I’ve been doing the big breakfasts – besides availability and not wanting to waste 🗑 – is sometimes I feel light headed by lunch time. I can always keep an extra container to bring home the banana 🍌 peels and apple rins for compost.
The communications line the came down yesterday 📞 still hasn’t been repaired. I assumed it was a copper cable line abandoned by the telephone company but it looks like fiber as there is no wires in the cable. I bet there are unhappy customers but it doesn’t impact me as the police officer 👮 tossed it off the road and sidewalk. I’ve noticed most of the underground 🚇 copper phone repeaters locally have been smashed and grabbed for their copper. Apparently Verizon doesn’t use them or care any more and copper is valuable as scrap. I guess it’s recycling ♻.

I’m surprised as anyone that we got as much snow 🌨 as we did. It’s winter though but after being so mild and snow free since mid December it was kind of a shock 🤯 for a change. I thought it was going to be more of a rain event. At least I didn’t need my umbrella for the evening commute. I was fine leaving it home.
While there was some snow on the sidewalks and a few icy patches, they weren’t bad for the evening walk 🚶. Made pasta for dinner 🍲 but I enforced the one bowl, eat only until I’m full rule and save the rest in the refrigerator. I won’t call it a diet but like everything with inflation I’m trying to tighten my belt. I don’t want to be cheap and miserable but I do want to build a good future 🔮 for myself in all aspects of life. 40 is such a critical age, to really set yourself on the right step to the future.
Dug out my truck and cleaned off the solar panel ☀ so things will get charged up hopefully starting tomorrow and I’ll be ready the next time I need to drive somewhere like the dentist on Friday or maybe sooner if I need groceries especially if I decide to go camping 🏕 for my birthday. You never know it might be fun, especially if there is snow for skiing.

Out for the morning walk 🚶, the snow is quite wet and sloppy. Sticking to my boots it’s would seem. Sidewalks are plowed which helps. But it’s still pretty wet and slushy. There was a either a telephone or cable line that came down on Elm Avenue this morning, there was already a police officer directing traffic around it, 🚨 but I stayed well away from it, just because you never know how much voltage it could have. If it’s a telephone wire, it could be as much as 90 volts when ringing, and I don’t know how much voltage is used for cable lines, or if they are all fiber optic at this point. I don’t own a TV or have internet at home, so I don’t know what’s up and down. Kind of sucks for people though who plan to work from home.

I’ve decided to continue on my journey through more-mindful eating, 🍽 which means eating only when I’m hungry and not stuffing my face when I’m already full. Walking is great, but it doesn’t necessary translate to lost weight, nor does it save money. If I try to be more careful on how much I eat, then I can stretch food further, 🍎 put more away in the freezer to eat a later date. Might not add up to a lot 💰 but with inflation, you really have to stretch every dollar as far as it can go. Plus less food consumed means less food packaging to burn or take to the transfer station, which is better for the environment. 🌎 Kind of a win-win for a better tomorrow. Little things, done over a decade, can really add up. Worse thing is that it seems like the veggies and fruit get eaten up before I’m ready to shop, but I can buy more.

I’ve decided I’m going to try to become a more conscious eater, 🍲 as I think my calorie intake is too high now that I’m getting older. I already eat a lot of veggies and fruits and I don’t do fast food but I’m guilty as anyone of stuffing my face when I get home from work. I often make up too much food and rather than freezing it I stuff my face. I do walk a lot and I want to be full but not to extent it makes me sick. Improving my physical health and losing a bit of weight needs to be part of Mission Fifty.

It’s going to be so mild that I can’t image the snow will cause too many problems. 🤷♂️ I don’t think they’ll close the office downtown 🏢 or that things will be that bad on the roads.
