John Boyd Thacher State Park, is situated along the Helderberg Escarpment, one of the richest fossil-bearing formations in the world. Even as it safeguards six miles of limestone cliff-face, rock-strewn slopes, woodland and open fields, the park provides a marvelous panorama of the Hudson-Mohawk Valleys and the Adirondack and Green Mountains. The park has volleyball courts, playgrounds, ball fields and numerous picnic areas with nine reservable shelters. Interpretive programs are offered year-round, including guided tours of the famous Indian Ladder Trail. There are over 25 additional miles of trails for summer hiking and mountain biking, and winter cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, and snowmobiling.
As have the very scammy swamp cooler advertising you see on social media which I like to reinforce by clicking on those ads. It’s humid!

Well offically at least, though in a few hours it will really feel like it with the muggers returning, assaulting you as soon as you step outside of a non air conditioned building. And I’ll be like I’m morally superior for not having air conditioning at home while working in an air conditioned office all day and taking my big jacked up well air conditioned truck to the Adirondacks I camp every time it gets truly hot out.
Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Mostly cloudy and 61 degrees in Delmar, NY. β Calm wind. The dew point is 57 degrees. The skies will clear Sunday around 10 am.
Feeling good this morning as I got to bed π by 8 pm last night. It feels werid going to bed with the sun still being up but lately I’ve been getting deprived of sleep as I’m often up at the five o’clock hour and many nights I’m up pushing ten o’clock as it’s not real dark until 9 pm and I’m out walking πΆ.
Oatmeal π₯£ this morning with fruit but I’ll also add a spoonful π₯ of Greek yogurt and some white beans to boost fiber and protein levels to avoid the blood sugar crash mid morning and the cravings to eat more food. Plus I’m trying to use up the white beans so I can cook up the red kidney beans over the weekend as they are so good with a little bit of maple syrup or mashed and cooked with eggs. π₯
Today will have isolated showers after 2pm. Mostly cloudy π¦, with a high of 81 degrees at 3pm. Typical for today. The muggers are expected as the day continues. Maximum dew point of 68 at 6pm. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 73 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1888.
Going to be hot and humid by afternoon but I’m ready for it. π° Worse comes to worse I’ll delay my evening walk and can do laps in the Plaza at lunchtime. I’ll have to get my big fan βοΈ out of my crawl space but that’s fine as I have to put away my Big Buddy heater and the screen tent. πͺ Summer returns again.
Got a co-payment bill for my blood π work after my physical a few weeks back. I guess I expected that $25 fee but it’s just a reminder that your free yearly health screening isn’t just that. So much of the medical industry is rather scammy, they don’t tell you much as they assault you with paperwork. Being able to study the online health records though is nice. π All my numbers are very good, especially sodium levels, cholesterol LDL to HDL though some might be I’m still relatively young, eat a pfairly good diet and have lost quire a bit of weight. ποΈ Blood sugar was in the normal range but slightly elevated as I eat breakfast before the blood draw. White blood cells was a bit low but it might have been the sample due to delay noted in processing but the actual infection fighting components were good. Honestly at this point my goal π₯ is to avoid doctors π§ββοΈπ₯ as much as possible.
This evening probably after walking π I should probably go to the grocery store although I could wait if I am going to see John tomorrow. I emailed π§ Linda and haven’t heard back but I could stock up at Market 32 after visiting them and the Albany Pine Bush. π²π²I kind of do want to get a scale tough at Walmart so I can better monitor my weight. Also I need some more under shirts as I’m pretty much out of clean ones and I would like to have XL sized ones that fit better.
Saturday it looks like showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 80.Β π¦ South wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Maybe not the nicest Saturday ever but we could use the rain. Muggy still with dewpoints pushing 70 at times.
I am hoping to get a bicycle tomorrow, π² as I want to start to biking back and forth to work, as many days as possible both for health and saving money. Plus being able to get around town better. I was thinking some days I could bike out to Five Rivers before work, then take the rail trail downtown from there. I just keep putting this off but I really should bite the bullet tomorrow if there is a bike I like.
Sunday will have scattered showers before 11am, then scattered showers and thunderstorms between 11am and 2pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 83.Β π¦ South wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Not as wet, with rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Honest I’m up and going this morning, though I’m still in still in quite a haze this morning despite making sure to be in bed by nine o’clock last night.
Good morning! Happy Thursday. Partly sunny π and 54 degrees in Delmar, NY. β Calm wind. The dew point is 52 degrees.
Out for the morning walk πΆ and I’m not feeling it today. 7 ¾ miles yesterday. I got to bed π on tike last night but I think I’m still half asleep despite sleeping in to six. The sun β in sky helps a lot.
Hoping to walk down to the Park and Ride this morning, π as I’m running close to on time this morning and I have an extra lunch in the office π’ as I got home early enough last night to eat at home. Not a session day, they’re gone, so no shirts to iron.
Today will be partly sunny π, with a high of 75 degrees at 2pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 31st. Maximum dew point of 56 at 6pm. Calm wind becoming southeast 5 to 7 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 67 degrees. The record high of 95 was set in 1954.
I think I’m good on groceries π through Friday night though I think tomorrow in the evening I’ll go shopping π after the store is restocked. I think I want to get more shorts and especially boxers and under shirts as my current ones are much too large and my boxers at times are slipping off. With warmer weather coming I should continue to think about quick cold meals that don’t require much cooking. Beans and rice are a once a week thing so they don’t require too much heat and can be eaten cold. π₯
Solar noon π is at 12:58 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.8° from the due south horizon (-0° vs. 6/21). Today will have 15 hours and 22 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 seconds over yesterday.
Looking at my pay stub π« person it looks like I didn’t get my federal deduction quite right so I’m going to have to talk to the pay roll office about fixing that today. State taxes are good. So I guess that’s a step forward. π£ I’ll have to talk to the Payroll office to get that straightened out.
Tonight will be scattered showers, mainly between 11pm and 3am. Cloudy π§, with a low of 60 degrees at 6am. Typical for tonight. Maximum dew point of 60 at 6am. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1940.
This weekend, I still want to look at bicycles. π² I would really like to be able to start commuting to work as soon as next week on a bicycle. I am going to part out my existing bicycle, but I’ve come to the conclusion that it would be better to start out fresh with a good used or new bicycle, something more designed for road riding then a hybrid bicycle. Then keep it in good maintance, especially keeping that back tire well inflated. Bicycle tires should be checked weekly for pressure based on the bicycle repair manual I’ve been reading. Every day I delay, it’s costing me a bus fare π to say nothing of the health benefits of riding back and forth to work. Or how handy it would be able to set up camp and then ride to trail heads, especially in more spread out areas like Piseco-Powley Road or even Moose River Plains. π΅βοΈ
I am also thinking about going to visit John Wolcott on Saturday and then do an afternoon hike in the Pine Bush. π²π²π¦ I doubt I’ll see as many Karner Blues at this point, as we are a few weeks past the lupine bloom but it’s always a nice hike in the Albany Pine Bush, especially as dusk approaches. Plus I am sure I will end up forgetting to get groceries at the store on Friday and will end up stopping at Market32 in Guilderland, although based on the affordable surprisingly affordable prices at Hannaford in Voorheesville π¬ maybe that’s where I should be going.
I am hoping the following weekend — Independence Day Weekend π to get out of town. A lot depends if they give us that Monday July 3rd off as a state holiday. It could happen. The issue is camping four nights straight — I’ll need a permit or have to move mid-weekend. I worry about things filling up, especially if it’s nice. I could do the Green Mountain National Forest, though I guess your not supposed to be lighting off fireworks in the National Forest, though I doubt locally they do much enforcement on the 4th of July unless it’s very dry. Plus, I want to get fireworks on my way out there. Piseco-Powley would be fun again that weekend, but I don’t know if I will be able to get a campsite, though maybe I could leave early on Friday.
Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Ugly Truck Day π when the sun will be setting at 8:29 pm with dusk at 9:01 pm. On that day in 2022, we had hot and humid weather, mostly sunny skies and the inevitable thunderstorm and temperatures between 97 and 72 degrees. I think I was out camping in Finger Lakes National Forest that week. Or 4 weeks, was that week before and I was in the office? I don’t remember. I should think about summer vacation and what week I want to take off. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1991.
A few more days until the latest sunset of the year. But by the weekend the heat, humidity and thunderstorms of summer will arrive.

I think today will be an oatmeal with blueberries π₯£ kind of morning with cold black coffee β. Another session day and I’m running late though not as late as yesterday, as my colleagues in the Senate are posting pictures of vacation on Lake George.
But first let’s kick off summer. Today will be mostly sunny π, with a high of 78 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 11th. The record high of 97 was set in 1938.
Donning my politician’s suit π΄οΈI kicked off Tuesday although I didn’t end up catching a bus π until the late local. Making eggs for breakfast π³ followed by preparing a lunch and dinner and ironing my shirt and tie and showering I was running late. Plus I was in such a haze after the long weekend with memories of Piseco-Powley Road high on my brain π§ .

I left work around 6 o’clock last night but the bus was running almost a half hour late π so I didn’t get home until nearly seven. Rice, lentils, kale, mushrooms π for dinner last night with some hot sauce. Also some white beans I cooked up yesterday. I was kind of moving slowly yesterday, tired after the weekend that was but I did go down to the park π for a while for a walk and did 6.8 miles for the day. π£

Tuesday after the Long Weekend that I extended for a few days on ol Piseco-Powley. Not much has changed both up in the wilderness and from listening to the morning news. They’re just vamping for time, but then aren’t we all. There are summer days spent at Potholersandtherest of year.
Good morning! It’s cloudy and 56 degrees in Delmar, NY. βοΈ Calm wind. The dew point is 55 degrees. The air quality is index is a good 28. The skies will clear around 9 am.
I guess there is no Week at a Glance π§π»βπΌbut it’s a, session day today and tomorrow so after breakfast and showering, i need to put on my suit and tie and head off to work. π§ My email didn’t seem like in a rush to sync last night and I didn’t push it until this morning to refresh. Really nothing happened when I was gone, the only thing changed less in the world over the weekend was Piseco-Powley Road since last summer. Actually, I think today was supposed to be wetter per last Thursdays forecast.

Left the Potholers around 5 pm yesterday π and headed home via NY 29 to NY 10 Canajoharie to NY 162 to US 20. NY 29 was closed heading into Johnstown and taking this other route home avoids most of the cities besides Canajoharie and let’s you see much of the Mohawk Valley Farm Country. π It was a nice long weekend, very quiet but like always ended too quickly and I wish it had been warmer out. β

This weekend I want to look some more at used bicycles π² as I want to start soon riding my bike to work and it would be great for getting around at camp βΊ. I especially want a bicycle come summer vacation πββοΈ of which I haven’t decided yet on a week but I have to discuss with the other director and figure out which weeks the Watkins Glen race π track is dark.
Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until Independence Day πΊπΈ when the sun will be setting at 8:38 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 84 and 54 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 83 degrees. We hit a record high of 104 back in 1911. I wonder if they will give us off the Monday before the 4th of July this year as a holiday. That might be a nice perk and a good excuse to get I town again. Maybe the Green Mountains this year? Just a thought.
