More power!
May 31, 2019 Morning
Good morning! Where did May go? Hello June in two weeks. Been such a cold spring, it seems hard to believe June is tomorrow. But I like June. Sure it’s a busy time at work but I like drinking milk during dairy month. Two weeks to Flag Day πΊπΈ. If it’s nice, I’ll have my big flag hanging out, assuming I stick in town next weekend — which who knows depending on the weather. Partly sunny and 64 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. There is a north-northwest breeze at 8 mph. π. The dew point is 54 degrees. It was more humid yesterday for sure.
Taking the express downtown, π following an incredibly dirty diesel truck π that is blowing out tons of black smoke. Yuck. I’m old enough to remember how filthy the old school buses and even heavy oil boilers were in the school buildings. πΈ Sure, you’ll sometimes see an old farm truck smoking π¬ like a chimney but not so much in the cities anymore. Air pollution has gotten a lot better in the cities for sure.
Today will be sunny π, with a high of 76 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 7th. Maximum dew point of 54 at 8am. Northwest wind 8 to 10 mph. Should be a good day. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was humid. Not today. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 2013.
Hoping to get out for a nice walk at lunch time. πΆ It should be a nice day. In the evening, I am going over to John Wolcott’s house, although I’m thinking I may have to run home first to bring my laptop home, as I want to have it to work on various projects over the weekend, especially if Sunday looks rainy. It’s hard to program a microprocessor without the laptop.π»
The sun will set at 8:25 pm with dusk around 8:59 pm, which is 48 seconds later than yesterday. π At sunset, look for mostly clear skies π and temperatures around 69 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 5 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 18 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be mostly clear π, with a low of 52 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. Maximum dew point of 50 at 6pm. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2018, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It became very sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 69 degrees. The record low of 35 occurred back in 1945.
The four day work week made the weekend come relatively fast. β© But so be it. I have a modestly busy weekend scheduled with a fair number of projects to work on. Sunday doesn’t look all that great now. β That said, as long as I get the battery hooked up this weekend, and hopefully hammock exchanged, I’ll be good. I guess it doesn’t matter that much if I ultimately don’t prevail on the hammock warranty — I only spent $4 — the rest I got with reward points. I’d like to get out and do some hiking before the rain comes, maybe in the Pine Bush tomorrow. π²
As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Flag Day πΊπΈ when the sun will be setting at 8:34 pm with dusk at 9:09 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 73 and 60 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 78 degrees. I’ll be shocked if it’s actually that warm. Been so dang cold. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1892.
May 28, 2019 Night
Good evening! Clouds, light rain showers and 53 degrees in the area around Delmar, NY. β There is a north breeze at 5 mph. π. The dew point is 52 degrees. The skies will clear Friday around 4 am. I walked down to the library, and it was only drizzling a bit.
I’m not feeling that bad tonight as I was earlier π₯but still a bit stiff and sore. But I was able to walk down to the library this evening and get some work done there for Save the Pine Bush, updated part of the blog, downloaded some videos π¦ and returned my library books. π I’m going to wait and see a few more days before going to the doctor π· watching for any bulls eyes that might pop up.
I did enjoy that book on the Tiger π―, the history of Tammany Hall. I had heard a lot about Tammany Hall over the years and Boss Tweed but never knew much about the institution or how it came to be or why it finally faded away by the early 1960s. It’s kind of sad to see it come to an end in the book π although much of what the institution did was pretty corrupt and π.
Tonight will have a chance of showers before 1am, then a chance of rain, mainly between 1am and 3am. Patchy fog before 11pm. Otherwise, mostly cloudy π§, with a low of 49 degrees at 3am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 23rd. North wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It became humid as the night progressed. It got down to 62 degrees. The record low of 34 occurred back in 1956.
Tonight will have a Waning Crescent Moon π with 19% illuminated. The moon will rise at 3:09 am. The New Moon is on Sunday night with a chance of showers. The Strawberry Moon π is on Sunday, June 16th. The sun will rise at 5:21 am with the first light at 4:48 am, which is 36 seconds earlier than yesterday. π Tonight will have 8 hours and 57 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 26 seconds over last night.
Tomorrow will have patchy fog between 7am and 8am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy π, with a high of 70 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 19th. Maximum dew point of 53 at 6pm. North wind 3 to 6 mph. I know I’ll pack my umbrella tomorrow. β I also need to get my jacket from the dry cleaners. I hope I have cash? π A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1931.
The National Weather Service is still relatively optimistic for the weekend. π My phone is showing more clouds and rain. Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 75. Maximum dew point of 54 at 7pm. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 72. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 54 at 10am. Typical average high for the weekend is 74 degrees.
My plan for this weekend is to hook up the second accessory battery in the truck π and clean out and organize my truck. I want to see if they’ll stand behind the hammock at LL Bean and replace it again. I can’t believe that broke again. π‘ Maybe do some more cleaning around the apartment, maybe a local hike. πΆ In two weeks, God willing, I’m thinking about Perkins Clearing to camp, hiking back in the West Canada Lake Wilderness and kayaking in Speculator. βΊ
In four weeks on June 25 the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm,π which is 13 minutes and 48 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had mostly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 78 and 55 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 80 and 59 degrees. The record high of 95 degrees was set back in 1898.
Looking ahead, Primary Day π³οΈ is in 4 weeks, Last Sunset After 8:30 PM π is in 7 weeks, Constitution Day π is in 16 weeks, October π₯ is in 18 weeks and Election Day 2020 π³οΈ is in 75 weeks.

Good morning! Happy Memorial Day Weekend Starts ποΈ! Three weeks to Flag Day πΊπΈ. Partly cloudy and 63 degrees in Delmar, NY. β Breezy, οΈ18 mph breeze from the northwest π¬ with gusts up to 29 mph π¨π¨π¨. The dew point is 51 degrees. The skies will clear around 1 pm. Not a real nice morning weather wise, but it’s expected to get better as the day progresses.
The plan is after work today to head up to the Green Mountains. β° I expect a fairly quiet day today, so hopefully I’ll either be able to leave early or right about the normal time. π I do need to stop and get milk π as I drank the last milk for breakfast with my cereal, but things went well packing this morning, and I don’t think I’ll need much more in supplies. I checked the oil and windshield washer fluid, only the later needed a little bit of topping off. The coolant reservoir has been slightly below the cold line for a while — I’ve not added any in the past 80,000 miles — and while I have a bottle at home, I probably should pick up some fresh in the future. I gassed up the truck this morning.β½
Today will be partly sunny π, with a high of 69 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 15th. Maximum dew point of 51 at 10am. Northwest wind 16 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1964.
The sun will set at 8:19 pm with dusk around 8:53 pm, which is 56 seconds later than yesterday. π At sunset, look for partly clear skies π and temperatures around 63 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 55 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 40 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will have patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, partly cloudy π€, with a low of 47 degrees at 5am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 17th. North wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light west after midnight. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 52 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1956.
I decided to move forward on adding the extra accessory battery to my truck, ordering some more wire, lugs, and fuse holder.π I wasn’t sure if I needed all that hardware, but I figured it wasn’t that expensive and there are always future projects I could use it on. I am going to get the battery case and battery at Walmart next week, and should have it working by the weekend. This will double my accessory battery reserve, and hopefully get me to the point where I have ample power for camping.
As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Flag Day πΊπΈ when the sun will be setting at 8:34 pm with dusk at 9:09 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 73 and 60 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 78 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1892.
