Delmar is a hamlet in the Town of Bethlehem, in Albany County, New York, United States. It is a suburb of the neighboring city of Albany. The community is bisected by NY Route 443 (Delaware Avenue), a major thoroughfare, main street, and route to Albany.
A census-designated place (CDP) has been established since 1980 by the U.S. Census Bureau for tabulating the population of what the census has defined as the boundaries of the urbanized area in and around Delmar. The population was 8,292 at the 2000 census, but it was not included as a CDP in the 2010 census.
In 2005, CNN/Money Magazine named the Delmar ZIP Code (an area larger than the Delmar hamlet or CDP) as one of the “Best Places to Live” in America, rating it the 22nd best place to live among what it called “Great American Towns.
With a dew point of 70 degrees and an air temperature of 76 degrees, the best way to describe tonight is unpleasant. Humid, nasty weather for sleeping. I would rate this summer evening as the most unpleasant weather all year for sleeping, this is the highest evening dew point of the year. The best we can hope for is 66 degrees by daybreak before we do it all over again tomorrow.
Good night, try to sleep well in this heat and humidity.
Currently, 85 degrees and hazy, hot and humid. Sunset is at 7:18 PM and civil twilight at 7:46. Waning Crescent Moon, only about 23% left rising around 1:43 AM. 77 degrees and partly cloudy at 9 PM.
Just another summer day, this September morning with temperatures climbing up to 76 as of 9 AM with weather rapidly heading up to 92 degrees.
The warm weather is not stopping the local schools from going back in session or the traffic from returning. I guess the traffic is little more than a minor annoyance, as I can play on my phone as the bus navigates the heavy city traffic. Cities are were the jobs are, and if I wasn’t decently well compensated for my time in Albany, I would be long gone from NY State.
Thursday is Primary Day. As I will probably one of three people who actually vote, I should probably think about voting. I don’t know much about the candidates although Dan McCoy keeps mailing me junk mail that doesn’t even burn particularly well. I have no idea on the local primaries and I don’t really care, because I feel like I barely even live in NY State anymore. That said, I do maintain an address in Delmar and I’d rather have my buff card reflect that I voted in the election, even if I ultimately just put a blank ballot in the SCAN-TRON machine.
With a dew point of 70 degrees, the best way to describe this evening is oppressive and now foggy, as temperatures drop to about 70. The cooler temperatures are helping a bit on this muggy evening. But the worst is over, the humidity will be gone by morning not to return until Labor Day.
Walked down and back from the library, a 1.2 mile walk. A bit painful and challenging by the end but I wanted to see if I could do it. I had a few beers with dinner, so I wasn’t going to drive and my bus pass was expired. I got a few books to read at Moose River Plains as I expect to be pretty crippled all weekend. I will be able to fish but I have to admit any kind of hiking really is out of the question. I want to pretend my ankle is better but that’s far from the truth. I decided to take out William Heart Moon’s classic, Blue Highway to see how it reads compared to when I was in my mid-20s which seems like so long ago.
Went to Walmart and got some supplies for camping. Originally I was just going to get gun solvent to clean out the mud I got in the barrel of my shotgun but I decided to buy a bunch more camp groceries. I am mostly set for food now and the table is in my truck. But I was too exhausted and my ankle too weak to get the rest of my camping gear ready to go. I have to admit I’m still really struggling a lot with my ankle. But I want to get away and hopefully visit the trappers expo tomorrow. We will see how sore I am in the morning. It didn’t help I slept very poorly last night, mostly due to the humidity. Oh well, good night.
One of the CDTA buses broke down on Cherry Ave. Fortunately, we have two police cars, two CDTA mechanics and a tow truck on the scenes to keep traffic moving smoothly.
Good morning. Currently 64 degrees and sunny. Nice, low humidity, crisp weather continues today with a high around 83.
Today, I’m heading off to Partridge Run to do some shore fishing and while I can’t really walk far it still will be nice to get out for a bit. I might also stop by the park so I can upload the latest batch of maps to the blog. My goal is to have an improved new map on the blog every day this week, focusing on the High Peaks region of NY.
It was pretty on the way back from Henry Hudson Park last night with the sun setting over the Heldebergs and the corn fields growing high. I wanted to stop and get a picture but there was traffic behind me and no good place to pull over. But the sunsets are coming earlier and if I want to get out I have to drive with my sprained ankle. So maybe later in the week I’ll get to capture a photo.
