Delmar is a hamlet in the Town of Bethlehem, in Albany County, New York, United States. It is a suburb of the neighboring city of Albany. The community is bisected by NY Route 443 (Delaware Avenue), a major thoroughfare, main street, and route to Albany.
A census-designated place (CDP) has been established since 1980 by the U.S. Census Bureau for tabulating the population of what the census has defined as the boundaries of the urbanized area in and around Delmar. The population was 8,292 at the 2000 census, but it was not included as a CDP in the 2010 census.
In 2005, CNN/Money Magazine named the Delmar ZIP Code (an area larger than the Delmar hamlet or CDP) as one of the “Best Places to Live” in America, rating it the 22nd best place to live among what it called “Great American Towns.
Good morning. Currently 39 degrees and light rain is starting to come down. Heavier rain this afternoon and evening. Up to two inches of rain throughout the day.
Chewing over whether I should get a camping permit and stay through full four nights up at Brasher Falls State Forest on my November trip. I don’t know, it probably makes more sense at least one night to camp somewhere else. It’s a bit hard to know what days to request as that will vary based on the weather.
No one real plans for the weekend, a lot will depend on when I have to work. The following week I will be more free to do what I want. That may be the weekend I head up to the North Country. Thanksgiving weekend also looking to go up north, but in that case it will just be the Southern Adirondacks most likely.
Good evening. At the 10 o’clock hour we are at 37 degrees under a full moon with some clouds creeping in. Rain creeps in around nine or ten in the morning. Make sure to bring a sturdy umbrella or better yet a rain coat to work tomorrow, it’s going to be a wet one.
Beautiful moon tonight through the clouds! If you haven’t been out your missing a lot of beauty.
The evening walk was nice tonight. A bit chilly but well worth spending the time outdoors. My ankle is pretty much healed, this morning I cancelled the follow up appointment I had with the doctor for tomorrow. Extended walking still hurts occasionally and hiking in mountains can at times be challenging but really I feel quite good. I almost wish I didn’t have to get to bed for work tomorrow.
Good morning. Chilly start to this late October morning with temperatures rising to about 29 degrees as the 9 o’clock hour gets well underway. Later on today looking at 56 degrees and sunny. Mostly just some high clouds this morning with lots of sun.
Installed and started playing with the new version of QGIS. No new maps yet as I’m still experimenting with the new features. They definitely are a modest improvement. It seems like improving the visual output of QGIS in recent versions has been a priority.
Looking forward to heading back up north and doing some camping. Weekends really aren’t the same when you’re stuck in town. While I haven’t taken off time yet really looking forward to that Veterans Day trip. After that, I will likely take a trip during the Thanksgiving Day holiday or more properly, Black Friday through Sunday. Then it depends a lot on how much snow we get. Even if we get a lot of snow, as long as it’s reasonably warm I will do either some tent camping or lean-to camping.
We are up to 39 degrees on this mid-fall morning. A nice day for this time of year. It’s better now that I wore a sweater to work today. Still haven’t turned the heat on for the year as the south facing roof keeps things pretty warm.
It was a nice weekend although a bit too short with going down to NY City on Saturday. Sunday was kind of rainy but the afternoon turned out to be okay if not a bit cold and damp. Went up to Partridge Run a bit, mostly stopped and took some pictures at the Gulf.
34 degrees and clear this morning. Later 54 degrees and sunny. Should be a great Monday – the last one of October and the last Monday with daylight savings time.
Good morning. Currently 52 degrees and cloudy. Kind of a gray and damp morning. Going to clear out this afternoon sometime between 2-4 pm this afternoon.
No real plans for today, a bunch of little chores around my apartment. I might head out to the woods this afternoon for a walk with my 20 gauge. Continuing to research propane space heaters to use while camping this late fall and winter. I want to have it before I take the half a week trip to the North Country.
Good evening. Currently 48 degrees and cloudy with some showers passing through. A chance of rain remains all evening. Heavier rain shortly. Tomorrow will be cloudy around 54 degrees but expect more sun to be peaking out around 3 PM and some clearing before sunset at 5:58 PM.
NY City was fun in ducky kind of way today, although the traffic was kind of crazy. I didn’t drive my big jacked up truck down there and the person whose car we were in got us home safely. It was a long day going to Brooklyn and back but so be it. Certainly NY City is as dirty and nasty as the critics claim, and I wouldn’t want to spend any more time than absolutely necessary down there. Give me the woods, the wilderness, the rural landscape. I like my guns, burning things, open space, small towns: the urban way of living does nothing for me.
Tomorrow if the rain holds off, I’m going to Cole Hill State Forest or Partridge Run. It was a long day, so I will probably sleep in tomorrow.
