Delmar is a hamlet in the Town of Bethlehem, in Albany County, New York, United States. It is a suburb of the neighboring city of Albany. The community is bisected by NY Route 443 (Delaware Avenue), a major thoroughfare, main street, and route to Albany.
A census-designated place (CDP) has been established since 1980 by the U.S. Census Bureau for tabulating the population of what the census has defined as the boundaries of the urbanized area in and around Delmar. The population was 8,292 at the 2000 census, but it was not included as a CDP in the 2010 census.
In 2005, CNN/Money Magazine named the Delmar ZIP Code (an area larger than the Delmar hamlet or CDP) as one of the “Best Places to Live” in America, rating it the 22nd best place to live among what it called “Great American Towns.
Good evening. Currently overcast and 50 degrees in Delmar. Tonight will have a slight chance of showers after 3am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 40. South wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Not a bad end to January for sure.
Tonight is the Last Quarter Moon with 46% illuminated. It will rise at 12:37 am. Tomorrow’s sunrise will be at 7:08 am with first light at 6:39 am, which is 2 minutes earlier then today. Certainly on Tuesday when the clouds are expected to break, we’ll have a brighter morning.
We’ve closed out January 2016. Warm, long summer nights can’t be that far around the corner. Good night.
Good morning! January is coming to an end! It is currently overcast and 40 degrees in Delmar. The sun is occasionally peaking out of the clouds but no blue sky is to be seen Today will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 48. South wind around 7 mph. Maybe a chance of seeing a little blue sky before the sun sets tonight?
Sunset will be at 5:07 pm with twilight at 5:37 pm which is one minute and 19 seconds later then yesterday. Tonight is the Last Quarter Moon with 46% illuminated. It will rise at 12:38 am. Past my bedtime, so it will be pretty dark night. The New Moon is on February 8. I believe the full moon is Monday, February 22, but donβt quote me on that as I donβt have the moon calendar in front of me.
There are 2 months, 1 day until April Fools Day. Trout Season starts on that day too. I hear a rumor that the state budget is due that day too but it probably wonβt happen on-time because they had to schedule an easter holiday right before April Fools day. Usually April Fools Day demarcates hardcore winter with nicer weather for camping. I ainβt no fool, but I like April Fools Day.
This day in 1990, the first McDonald’s in the Soviet Union opens in Moscow. The important part of this historical tidbit: βDid they offer buck coffee?β It really annoys me when local McDonald’s donβt offer coffee for a buck. It keeps you alive on the road. Most other McDonald’s food is pretty overpriced and gross. Iβll just buy a bag of chips at the local grocery store to hold me over while I drive where I need to go. Iβm really not a fan of restaurant food. Iβd prefer to cook it over a fire or in the woods.
Today Iβm going to play with maps a little more then run to Walmart to pick up a few things I couldnβt find at Shoprite, then possibly to the car wash to wash off more salt off the truck. Then Iβm thinking of heading down to Hannacroix Preserve before heading to my parents house for Sunday dinner.
Last night I put together a lot of pretty interesting maps for the next week or two, now that Iβm done with QGIS scripting for a while. It can be tough to come up with new data and find interesting things to map, but I think have some interesting new maps. They include a bunch of state land maps, Albany City School Bond vote (including a Cartogram), Solid Waste Facilities, and an Updated Wilderness and State Forest Overview Maps.
Good afternoon. Currently mostly sunny and 39 degrees in Delmar. Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 33. South wind 6 to 10 mph. Bit of a chilly breeze this evening but fairly mild.

Recovering from last night today. I also spent a fair bit of time working on maps of various state lands and finishing my PyQGIS scripting project. Going out to Five Rivers to watch the sun clear on this nice but cold evening.
Good evening. Currently overcast and 26 degrees in Delmar. With the wind it seems pretty frigid outside. Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low around 22. Northwest wind 8 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. I’m under the covers and in bed, so I don’t really care. It was however cold at the bus stop. Warming up for the weekend.

I hope you had a good week and are looking forward to a relaxing weekend. I had a truly special birthday thanks to my friends at work. Sleep well!
Good evening on this Chocolate Cake Day. Currently partly cloudy and 34 degrees in Delmar. It’s nice having the sun still up when you get out of work. The commutes aren’t nearly so dark and the mornings are a lot brighter.

Thursday will be sunny with increasing clouds as the day progresses, with a high near 39. South wind 6 to 13 mph. Not that bad for January.
In two weeks the sun will be setting at 5:20 pm, which is 18 minutes later then tonight. The sunset in four weeks on Feb. 24 is at 5:38 pm. Daylight Savings Time begins on Sunday, March 13 is 1 month, 17 days away. Sunset on that day which is at 7:00 pm.
Speaking of 7 pm, the Albany County Young Democrats meeting is tonight, the first one I’ve been to since 2011. For a while they didn’t have much in meetings then for a while I could make it because I was traveling for work. It will be fun, although I think most of the people I know from Young Democrats have aged out. I’m 33, so I only have two years left.
Good morning! Chocolate Cake Day. Yum. It is partly cloudy and 37 degrees in Delmar. January thaw. Partly sunny, with a high near 40. Breezy, with a west wind 14 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of occasional snow showers is 30%.

There are 2 months, 19 days until Tax Day. I still have to finish my taxes, by they are mostly done. I love the free-file option. This day in 2006, Western Union discontinues its Telegram and Commercial Messaging services. “Western Union man, now you have gone away, dot-dot-da-da-dot, telegram had to say you learned you way the hard way, Western Union, oh Western Union….” Or something like that the Five Americans sung a long time ago. That said, I’m too young to remember the heyday of telegrams but then again neither do my parents, which by the 1960s were mostly only used for official pronouncements.
Today is Hump Day and the weekend is rapidly approaching.. I’m undecided about going up to the Adirondacks. I might head up north or not. It depends on the weather. Gas certainly is inexpensive these days.
I stayed up too late last night and woke up early. I feel well rested this morning but I don’t know if my energy levels will crash later on. I expect a quiet day at work, which ensures a crisis will happen this morning. Smooth and easy days are rare to happen.
Good evening. Currently overcast and 40 degrees in Delmar. Warm mercury wise but feels colder with the wind. Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 31. West wind 10 to 13 mph.
Tonight we have a Waining Gibbous Moon with 80% illuminated. Tomorrow’s sunrise will be at 7:13 am with first light at 6:43 am, which is one minute and 54 seconds earlier then today.
Spent too much time fiddling with PyQGIS trying to figure out the ins and outs of the API. Pretty much got the plug-in for automation purposes done, although I already have ideas on how to further automate and improve things. Certainly frees me from the routine of making maps in favor of the stuff that can’t be automated like styling of icons, zoom perspective, and custom text. But the fewer times I have to spell a state forest or mountain name, the less chances for mistake. Let the computer do the boring stuff.
The evening walk and trip to the library didn’t happen. Oh well. I guess it wasn’t to be. Sometimes when you discover a new toy it can be self consuming . At any rate, this coding project can’t last much longer, as there is only so much I can automate and still make interesting, unique looking maps. It’s winter and cold out, so I’m not missing much.
