Delmar is a hamlet in the Town of Bethlehem, in Albany County, New York, United States. It is a suburb of the neighboring city of Albany. The community is bisected by NY Route 443 (Delaware Avenue), a major thoroughfare, main street, and route to Albany.
A census-designated place (CDP) has been established since 1980 by the U.S. Census Bureau for tabulating the population of what the census has defined as the boundaries of the urbanized area in and around Delmar. The population was 8,292 at the 2000 census, but it was not included as a CDP in the 2010 census.
In 2005, CNN/Money Magazine named the Delmar ZIP Code (an area larger than the Delmar hamlet or CDP) as one of the “Best Places to Live” in America, rating it the 22nd best place to live among what it called “Great American Towns.
As we head through the ten o’clock hour, we are at 45 degrees and mostly cloudy. You can see the stars in parts with dark clouds hanging over other locations. 50% chance of showers tonight, low around 38 degrees. Fairly mild. Sunrise is at 6:23 am, in about 7 1/2 hours. First light at 5:54 AM.
Went out grocery shopping tonight. Just a few supplies until the weekend. Also ended up buying some supplies for fixing the wires in the truck cap, including conduit and wire ties. Going to clean out the truck this weekend and get things ready for summer camping.
Ended up looking at LED light bulbs. They now have 40 watt equivalent bulbs that only use 5 watts. They are like $3. I use that bulb size to light my flag while truck cap camping, and this would further reduce the load on the inverter. Didn’t buy yet but will get before my next time camping. Also bought an inexpensive red LED light bulb, so I can put it on while sitting in bed watching the PBS Newshour to make it easier to fall asleep. They really suggest that the blue light from screens can disrupt sleep. The truck toy aisle at Walmart has so many different LED strips and switches now.
Also went down to the library and downloaded a bunch more data for making maps. I discovered that there is some pretty fascinating education data on out there to play with among other things. It’s something I’m going to play with further.
I’m pretty tired. But the good news is tomorrow is Friday. Sleep well.
Good morning. Happy Thursday. 46 degrees and cloudy. Later, 57 degrees and the rain is on its way in a few hours. Going to be mild but a wet day. Found my trash can lid, the snow is rapidly melting here. Birds and owl are chirping. Have a great day, don’t get too wet….
Since 5 o’clock it has only dropped one degree to 41 degrees. It is now completely overcast and the wind has dropped down quite a bit. The low for tonight is only 38 degrees. Rain by morning. First light at 5:56 AM and sunrise at 6:24. Tomorrow, seasonable warmth around 55 degrees and rain.
The skies are mostly cloudy and it was a fairly cold walk down to the Park and Ride, with temperatures around 24 degrees as they head up to today’s high of 43 degrees. That’s 11 degrees below the normal high of 54 for April 5th. A little sun peaking out from the clouds. The bus is just now departing the Park and Ride.
The cold isn’t as bad as the dry and cold is on my hands. Just walking down to the bus stop has left them kind of sore and cracked. Tomorrow will have a 90% chance of rain but will be fairly mild conditions with the mercury expected to reach 56. That will be the first warm day in a while but at least it will help melt the snow and keep the fire danger down.
Today in 1909, Robert Peary and Matthew Henson reach the North Pole. Happy Birthday to Merle Haggard who was born today in 1937. Especially if you’re proud to be an Okie from Muskogee.
Good evening as we work our way through the final hour of light on the Tuesday. Sunset 7:27 pm with darkness at 7:55 pm. 35 degrees, clear, and cold. As expected, some of the snow melted away but not much of it. Thursday with rain and temperatures around 56 expected, a lot of the slop, ice and salt is expected to gone away.
Twenty degrees for the low tonight with a declining breeze. A nice evening for January but it gets tiresome for April. I know we are still in the first half of the month but I’m a real sick of winter. I keep telling myself this will be the last frigid winter up north. Albany winters are just miserable, even when they are as mild as they’ve been lately. Spring will be nice.

At one month out from Cinco de Mayo around the 9 o’clock hour we are at 18 degrees under mostly sunny skies. A typical month from now it will be around 55 degrees on the way up to 66 degrees. In contrast, today will struggle to reach 36 degrees but a bit warm enough to take a good stab at melting away the snow.
Everything about this morning reminds me of a good winter day in January with snow and ice covered sidewalks and parking lots a sheet of ice. The root of all evil salt spreaders have been out spreading their shit on the roads.
Yesterday one of my trash cans blew over and the lid is missing in the snow. The wind was howling around yesterday morning for sure. It was the paper trash that I mostly save for starting campfires in the woods. The can was light, I’ve used a lot of paper starting fires camping this winter. Haven’t found the lid but I got the papers and other burnable stuff picked up and tossed in the back of my pickup for now. Hopefully I buy a lid that fits okay if I can’t find the lid. At some point the snow will melt away.
29 years ago today the Thruway bridge over the Schoharie Creek collapsed, bringing down a handful of cars and trucks that either drove into the missing span or fell in as the bridge gave way. The bridge was improperly constructed, leading to spring flood waters undermining one of the piers.
Sunset tonight is at 7:26 PM. Looking for around 30 degrees with clear conditions and stiff breeze around dusk. So no going down to the park for me this evening. But at any rate, have a great day!
