Delmar is a hamlet in the Town of Bethlehem, in Albany County, New York, United States. It is a suburb of the neighboring city of Albany. The community is bisected by NY Route 443 (Delaware Avenue), a major thoroughfare, main street, and route to Albany.
A census-designated place (CDP) has been established since 1980 by the U.S. Census Bureau for tabulating the population of what the census has defined as the boundaries of the urbanized area in and around Delmar. The population was 8,292 at the 2000 census, but it was not included as a CDP in the 2010 census.
In 2005, CNN/Money Magazine named the Delmar ZIP Code (an area larger than the Delmar hamlet or CDP) as one of the “Best Places to Live” in America, rating it the 22nd best place to live among what it called “Great American Towns.

My apartment is a sauna, but except for a quick dinner, I’ve been either outside or at the air conditioned library. By the time I got home at quarter to six, the mercury had already dripped a lot but it remains incredibly humid. Probably need to get the mildew remover out this weekend.
I went down to the library and implemented some new code on the blog, relating to improving accuracy of the forecast templates that I use. I also got some library books out. Now that I have the books, I can have something to read when I go down to the park tomorrow until dusk.
I plugged in the digital converter box and it automatically taped the PBS Newshour for me. I probably will go in a little bit and watch the first half hour. I should be keeping track of what is happening more in the world, no matter how awful it may be.

All I can say it’s hot outside and even hotter in my apartment. It’s tempting to just sleep outside or in my truck. But I have the fan inside, and took some sleeping pills and just got done enjoying a cold glass of orange juice. Not too bad sitting out back, or even when I was at the park earlier. I do need to get a library book to read. Maybe at lunch time tomorrow at the Albany Public Library. The laptop is fun at the park but I still like reading a book after work. I learn something and it calms my nerves.
I’m glad I’m not camping this weekend. I got to do some cleaning, work on some code, and relax. I like nights spent out in the wilderness but after a while packing and unpacking camping gear gets really tiring. Hopefully it won’t be so muggy this weekend.

Gas prices seen to have come down a few more cents. There is still a pretty good oil glut in our country, but I’m sure it won’t last. Probably Big Oil doesn’t like Trump. It will be good for summer vacations, but I’m sure the cheap oil won’t last. I’m sure that next four years will be fun for sure.

Finally bought boots to replace the pair I am wearing that are basically falling off my feet haven’t offered any water protection for some time. They are quite worn out but it made no sense to replace them before going camping.
Worked on some improved weather code for my blog. Just mostly minor changes but I wanted to use the NOAA hourly forecast data to develop some new products. Returned my library books. I need to get some new ones to read in the park but with oppressive conditions expected, I may end up going to the library to enjoy the artificial cool of air conditioning at the library.
An ad for the Anker SoundCloud XL waterproof stereo Bluetooth speaker caught my eye. While I like my Jam Plus speaker I currently use camping and at home, I wish it was a bit louder with more bass and better battery life. Waterproof would be nice too in case it rains and gets left on the table. Been thinking about upgrading before vacation. But alas money is limited so I have to make choices. I’ll have to think about it in the coming weeks.
Back in the day, we used to walk one mile to the express bus downtown. And it was incredibly hot and sticky and the express bus lacked air conditioning but at least when we got moving on the expressway it cooled down.

On this day in 1999, U.S. President Bill Clinton imposes trade and economic sanctions against the Taliban regime in Afghanistan. About two years and nine weeks later, they would respond by hijacking some airplanes and in response they’d step up security so I couldn’t go back and explore my favorite farm garbage dump back on the city Alcove Reservoir property with potentially getting caught by security.
There are 6 weeks until Altamont Fair Opens when the sun will be setting at 7:54 pm with dusk at 8:24 pm. The average high temperature is 81 degrees, with a record high of 97 in 1936.
This weekend, I’m probably staying in town for the weekend, because I’m getting tired of packing and unpacking camping gear. But we will see. I would like to get to Mine Kill State Park at some point and enjoy the pool. But I also need to get some replacement handles for my kayak, which wear out because I use them to tie down to the truck and vibration seems to wear them out every three years or so. The following weekend I’ll be out in Central NY for work and I might camp, depending on what my schedule looks like. We will see.
Remember the weekend is only four days away. Have a great one!
