Delmar, New York

Delmar is a hamlet in the Town of Bethlehem, in Albany County, New York, United States. It is a suburb of the neighboring city of Albany. The community is bisected by NY Route 443 (Delaware Avenue), a major thoroughfare, main street, and route to Albany.

A census-designated place (CDP) has been established since 1980 by the U.S. Census Bureau for tabulating the population of what the census has defined as the boundaries of the urbanized area in and around Delmar. The population was 8,292 at the 2000 census, but it was not included as a CDP in the 2010 census.

In 2005, CNN/Money Magazine named the Delmar ZIP Code (an area larger than the Delmar hamlet or CDP) as one of the “Best Places to Live” in America, rating it the 22nd best place to live among what it called “Great American Towns.

August 16, 2016 8 AM Update

Today is kind of a gray one as I head downtown on the express bus. But it’s a Tuesday and the weekend still looks pretty good .

I always enjoy taking the express bus even if it means a walk. Walking is healthy activity and the reality is it missed my evening walk because I got busy doing some cooking and working on some work stuff.

I didn’t end up buying that rifle but after talking to friends and researching further I know what I want. There will be more sales before November. Money only grows or at least accumulates if you don’t spend it.

Cut my thumb somehow walking down to the bus. I don’t know how as the air is pretty damp. I must have just hit something. It’s not too bad.

Looking forward to the weekend. It should be a nice one.

I am glad I didn’t go to the Adirondacks this weekend. Did you hear about all the damage in Pine Lake? I go past there on my way up to Piseco-Powley Road. I don’t know if they got damage up there, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they have had some severe thunderstorms. With the weather I doubt I would have had much chance to swim or paddle between the thunderstorms.

I think I turned this otherwise pretty hot and humid day into a decent one.

Drove up to Field and Stream store that replaced the little Dick’s that I loved. Didn’t buy anything as it was pretty crowded, but I took a good look around. It’s big, but honestly I like the little one store better which had big box prices but small store atmosphere. I may go back on Monday when it’s less crowded (and the helpful sporting goods clerk I like works) to look at the rifle I’m interested in. I’m not sure if I’m going to spend the money right now despite the good sale. I also don’t know how much I’ll use it compared to my other guns. Maybe I should instead just get another fishing pole and some other stuff. I always like to think about my purchases carefully before I buy them.

Thacher Park Overlook was pretty cool this evening, watching the thunderstorm roll through the valley. There was a lot of people watching the thunderstorm. It was a lot cooler up on the mountain.

I got soft  ice cream  at the ice cream shop on the way back from Thacher Park. Nothing like the Watkins Dairy Bar. Oh well, vacation is long in the rear view mirror.

Sat out back and watched the thunderstorm roll over head. No rain, but the thunder got severe weather enough I hid under the truck cap for a while. No rain though.  At some point I’ll go back inside but in the mean time it’s fairly nice out back. Still kind of humid, especially after the thunderstorm passed by. It was fun watching it as it came by.
