Hamilton County

Hamilton County is a county located in the U.S. state of New York. Its county seat is Lake Pleasant. It is one of only two counties that lie entirely within the Adirondack Park (Essex is the other). As of the 2010 census, the population was 4,836, making it the least populous county in New York. It is also the most sparsely populated county in the eastern half of the United States, with a population density of just over three people per square mile.

Hamilton County is in the north central part of the state, northwest of Albany. It lies entirely within Adirondack Park and consists mostly of publicly owned parkland. As the tourist folk will tell you, there is no permanent traffic light in the county.

Picnic Table

I have yet to pick up my gear. It took a while to figure out which trees to use to set up the site, but ultimately with the steel poles, I got it set up.

Kayak Tying Down Tarp

I couldn't quite figure out how to keep the tarp tied down. I tried to use a wood stake, but it kept pulling out of the ground. The kayak worked well for this purpose.

Truck’s All Packed

All I have to do now is put the kayak on the roof of my truck, and head north to Cedar River Flow for the next day of camping out.

Styrofoam Canoe Blocks I Made

I cut up an old styrofoam sleeping pad, rolled it up, cut notches, and duck taped it all together. It worked well, far better then trying to let the kayak ride directly on the roof of the pickup.

Kayak Parked

This is at the Mason Lake Parking Area, where people pull off NY 30, totally oblivious to the camp sites across the lake.
