Average Age of Buildings on Altamont, NY Streets 🏑

Median Age of Buildings on Altamont, NY Streets 🏑

One of the ways I’ve been playing with the state tax records database is to experiment with the property tax database to figure out how old various streets are. While certainly people can and do build and rebuild houses on roads well after a street is constructed, looking at the median age of buildings on a street can give you a ballpark estimate on how old a street is and how old the particular neighborhood is. Probably the next step would be to plot this on a map.

Clearly with the median building dates, you can find the newest streets and developments in Altamont — and which neighborhoods and streets are rich in history.

Crossgates refuses to disclose documents in tax lawsuit | The Altamont Enterprise

GUILDERLAND — Crossgates Mall responded to Guilderland’s request for financial information the town insisted was necessary to help build its defense in a tax lawsuit filed by the mall, by, first, ignoring it for months, then eventually settling on the argument that the town’s requests for, among other things, tenant rent rolls and an appraisal performed on the property were “overly broad,” “privileged,” and also “publicly available.”

Crossgates Mall filed an Article 7 petition against the town in July of last year seeking a $139.2 million reduction on its $282.5 million tax assessment.

The petition, filed in Albany County Supreme Court by three Crossgates-affiliated limited-liability corporations, argued the mall should receive a near 50-percent drop in its assessed value because, “Prior to the issuance of the Town’s tentative assessment roll for 2020, [Crossgates] provided and offered information to the Town’s Assessor concerning the Property and its value,” its June 2020 court filing stated.??

Tax Exempt Properties In Guilderland

I've been doing a lot of research into tax maps lately. I noticed that the tax rolls contain coordinates for each point. So I decided to make a map up all of the 2019 Tax Exempt Properties in Guilderland, which shows all the municipal, state and private properties that pay no county tax. There are 388 properties in the town that fall under that category.

2019 Guilderland Solar Tax Credit

The Town of Guilderland has a law that allows homeowners with solar panels on their properties to get a property tax break. https://ecode360.com/32697230 This map shows the properties that take advantage of the tax break currently. If you switch to the satellite view, you can see the individual properties and solar panels up close, which is rather neat.
