Good morning! Happy Labor Day. Today is the unofficial end of summer with most of the state beaches and pools that remain open but still cool. Hot weather expected for the second half of the week. Right now it’s sunny and 72 degrees in Gilboa at the Leonard Hill State Forest. There is a north breeze at 5 mph. The dew point is 53 degrees. Nice day but some haze looking out towards Utsaythana from Leonard Hill.
Camp is all taken down and the site restored to its orginal meadow like conditions to the greatest extent possible. One thing about back country camping is something the ground gets trampled but I tried to restore the leaves and scattered wood across the site. From a sustainability perspective, it probably is better to stay at an existing site but none existed in the area I camped. Still you’d have to look hard to know where I camped in the woods. Come October and the leaves falling all traces will likely be gone.
Today will be sunny, with a high of 78 degrees at 3pm. Somewhat warmer weather the next yesterday. Hopefully not a cold at the pool. Two degrees above normal. Low humidity. Maximum dew point of 55 at 2pm. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph. The record high of 91 was set in 1973. The sun will set at 7:22 pm with dusk around 7:51 pm, which is 1 minute and 44 seconds earlier than yesterday. Today will have 12 hours and 55 minutes of daylight, a decrease of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low of 56 degrees at 5am. One degree above normal. Maximum dew point of 55 at 6pm. Northeast wind around 7 mph. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1938.
Five weeks until Columbus Day when the sun will be setting at 6:21 pm with dusk at 6:49 pm. The average high temperature is 62 degrees, with a record high of 89 in 1939.
Fairly nice sunset tonight but much too early. But tomorrow is Labor Day. π
Good evening! Mostly clear and 69 degrees in Gilboa. There is a east-northeast breeze at 8 mph. The dew point is 53 degrees. Rather autumn like. It was frigid at the Mine Kill State Park pool. The sun was bright and I probably burnt a bit despite wearing sunscreen. The water in the pool was a ridiculously cold 70 degrees. Had some dinner, hiked around the mountain I am camping on, and now I’m watching the sunset from Leonard Hill.
Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low of 54 degrees at 4am. Two degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 54 at 8pm. Northeast wind around 8 mph. The record low of 37 occurred back in 1974. The sun will set at 7:24 pm with dusk around 7:53 pm, which is 1 minutes and 44 seconds earlier than yesterday. Waxing Crescent Moon tonight with 24% illuminated. The moon will set around 11:13 pm. The First Quarter Moon is on Friday at 11:49 am with partly cloudy expected. The Full βCornβ Moon is on Friday, September 16th at 7:05 pm.
Labor Day will be mostly sunny, with a high of 76 degrees at 3pm. Typical for Labor Day. Maximum dew point of 56 at 4pm. Northeast wind 9 to 13 mph. The record high of 91 was set in 1973.
In four weeks on October 2 the sun will be setting at 6:35 pm, which is 49 minutes earlier then today. It’s amazing to think October is less than a month away and it will be much cooler. The average high is 65 degrees, and the record for that date is 85 degrees was set back in 1927. Doesnβt seem that long ago when 85 degrees was a typical warm summer day.
